Alrighty then, pushy pushy The plasma gunners face definitely needs touching up... Have you got a fine detail brush? If not, get one. When you are doing the face, water down your paint! thick paint will clog up the details, and you will be left with a blobby slab for a face., in the flipside, don't water it down too much, or the paint will just pool in the recesses and not stick to raised surfaces. Do a colour like dwarf flesh (for tanned sort of look), ogryn flesh wash, then get the raised areas with the starter colour (the dwarf flesh in this case). That should give you nice definition for the rank an file. If you want even more definition, hit the very raised areas with a lighter tone, maybe your base mixed with a bit of skull White. Eyes are virtually impossible without the detail brush... Your plasma coil, however, is rather smart... And the rest of the model is pretty tip top

see, ive always said i sucked at the faces =P i have a relatively small detailing brush but not good enough to get the same result as on those plastic stormtroopers (i wish). the skills will eventually get there, i hope =P
thanks for the tip with the slight watering down. i may add though that I don't realllllly use citadel paints. other than the ones i'd have to constantly mix (desert yellow, catchan green) and the boltgun metal, the rest are regular craft store acrylic paints. that considered, i don't think the paints are too bad =]
i will have to give the added detail a go though on the next guy i finish up. i wanna finish the lascannon cyclops first though =D
slight pause in the creations though since i'm getting ready to move and am papcking up a lot of nuts (hence the terrible lighting in the latter pics). ill keep doing the little guys though for as long as i can.

Ah somebody else was a numpty and recently ended up in Hospital with a bad cut! I'll be honest and say I have a problem with your tracked gun-unit thingies........mainly the fact that the actual guns are just stuck on upside down, the Aquila just looks silly and makes it really obvious. Other than that, nice one

@cosmic, theyre not finished, and i noticed them too, and have since shaved them off. =P and only one of the guns, the lascannon, is upside down, so i just gotta work extra hard on making that one look damn good =D **note i just noticed the plasma is upside down too lol... my bad. for some reason I thought it was the right way up =/ guess ill have to work damn hard on that one too lol. no big loss as i see it, makes me refine my skills all that much more =P** they were cyclops demo bots but they looked kinda boring so i spiffied them up a bit, and as you can probs guess with the previous (more recent) paint jobs i've done they should look pretty dec when i'm through with them =] and again, all, i may stress i'm not actually a w40k player, i'm started doing this for physical concept for 3D graphic art. i'm a game developer in training, not a master artist =P more of a hobby really lol. Walrus, hey man i'm a student. i'm cheap and easy, whatever works lol. seems that they've got the job done so far haha.

Very interesting use of the Cyclops vehicles as bases for heavy weapons... Oh yeah, and you know that when you cut yourself while working on a model, you should then anoint your minis with the precious, precious blood that flows forth so you will gain the favor of Khorne, yes?

I like the cyclops but im not a fan of your conversion, you can't really use it in a game and I think you've over loaded them a bit.
Some washes would go nicely on your dudes.

heres a new question, which group would make a decently fair opponent for the imperial guard based on what I have assembled so far and will be assembling?
i've been playing all the DoW (1 and 2) games and decided on making an opposing army after i finish what i have now for my IG. thoughts?
i kinda like the look of the tyranids, though they look kinda tough to paint...

a little work done as of late only... a little sad about that, but hey what can you do when you're packing up the house and moving. just a little more color on this guy, only thing i've really had time to do in the last few days. turns out my paints managed to get misplaced for the last 3 days and magically reappeared today after i got back from the repair shop. you might notice the gold i used on this guy is darker than the gold on the other models' accents, and that's cuz this gold is the citadel gold. the other is from a dollar store. they both work, just gives me more coloring options now =] and the wires won't stay their current colors... i took them out of a broken headphone line lol. my next work of scenery to be completed once i get time to do the bunker i started... the bunker will go on the top part of this ... thing ... i like the tiered approach to the bunker, gives my little guardsmen "cover" in the form of barricades and trenches (which will be put in as i go about creating this thing). my army case, which is a modified fishing tackle box. i added some plastic dividers, took some out, and will be fitting it with custom shaped foam and other padding when i also get more time. my instructions on the front there have been partially carried out now, as i spry painted it all black and have the outline for the imperial eagle on it now. just gotta figure out a way to create a decent looking raised eagle shape to go on both sides, and smaller ones possibly the side boxes too. right now it contains my paints, modelling tools and scenery materials. and lastly... what my thumb looks like after it got acquainted with my f***ing sharp xacto knife... i went to bed with the cut butterfly bandaged and woke up with a COMPLETELY bloodstained pillow. it was lovely. i SHOULD have the cyclops done by tomorrow night, but don't hold me to my word on that... soon as i'm done with this one i'll start the green stuffed guardsman and paint up and battle scar some barricades.

Continuing on with my new-found downtime... Managed to finish off the cyclops i started like a week back. been real tough to find some time to actually do these little guys and misplacing my paints didn't help. now that it's all sorted out again, expect to see more regular updates again =]

first time i've decided to undercoat something. think it worked out for the best from what i have finished on him currently. did some cool drybrushing on this guy, the sickly colors worked perfectly i think =D no space marine, tainted or not, is complete without their pack. maybe a little smoke coming out the exhaust? i seem to do pretty decent with the steel wool work lol. i'll have him finished by tomorrow night assuming i can find the rest of my missing paint, which happens to be the light colors needed to finish the bone shoulder pad and the skulls on his belt... i plan to put bullet casings on the base and some bubbles of caustic fluids too (assuming i can figure out how to properly create scenery). my good light also burnt out so my picture quality will suck until i can get that replaced... the current pics of the shaded suit don't do justice to how it looks irl.

im open to suggestions for the trim colors =] i picked up skull white, bleached bone, dwarf flesh, scorched brown, snakebite leather, goblin green and codex grey in addition to my existing supply of catchan green, mithril silver, shining gold, generic dollar store gold (the lighter one), chaos black, gore red, a brighter generic red, some really darkish blue and desert yellow. other than that i don't have any other colors any more as they must have all been packed up and i can't find them...
and yes i have some of the washes, badab black, devlin mud and ogryn flesh.

Well then... Time to get my advice giving mojo on. Instead of the gold on the bolter and assorted body parts (namely head and gauntlets) try Bleached Bone maybe? (gives more natural appearance to model, doesn't draw from the awesome work on main body). Make sure you thin it down (but not too much). After applying the Bleached Bone, give it a wash (Delvin mud/ogryn flesh.. or a mix if you want ;D ). I would have done the Powerplant/backpack the same as the armour (or as close to as possible). If you keep it the way it is, give it a wash (black/mud, or again a combination ). This helps to stop the shiny metal pulling away from the awesomeness that is the body work. Your red areas could have used more love... Instead of smacking on the generic red, use the gore. Gore with black/mud wash then highlight with gore again. Alternatively, the same thing could work with generic red, but I wouldn't recommend it (too bright). There is a good eye tutorial on my collection thread (I think) that Cosmic made for me here. I think that's it for now. And remember, thin your paint![/u]

always good for advice walrus =] took all that to heart and did a lot of that with a little tweaks of my own and i must say it looks pretty kick ass. i kept the pack as is, and turned the gold to that same color (boltgun metal) and made serious use of my washes on this guy. the eyes i had already re-done in gore (brilliant minds think alike) and then washed them out extra with your advice. you'll find a nice shaded effect on the shoulder piece (the bone one), and the nurgle mark on the other shoulder has been highlighted, and the armor on the arm was changed to mithril sivler, drybrushed with catchan green, then also washed out =] enjoy these visuals =3 and to cut from the seriousness, my puppy was passed out on the couch earlier and i just couldn't understand how something could fall asleep in such position and be comfortable... shame on him, lettin it all hang loose.
