The faded look? Badab black wash on the yellow, devlan mud on the red. Heavy wash around the trim and drag it up into the middle of the armor sections.

I'm going to try this I think. Maybe it's just your camera but it looks like swirls of brighter colour on the armour.
This will be done.

anyone have any thoughts on doing commissioned paintings? like, is it worth it, how much should it be (per model, time, etc)? cuz im thinking of getting the place i get my models from to advertise im open to painting for others. it'll help me refine my own skills, make others happy, and i'll have a blast doing them. i love painting and assembling these little guys.

I tried it for a while, although unless you know people that want things doing then its not great. THe time spent painting a mini is hard to justify to someone whos paying for it. You'd be better off getting a minimum wage job. I know a few people that do comission painting, although they dont have much time for anything else! Those that do comission painting well that I know of have godly painting skills and charge a small fortune, although they still have day jobs as its not something they can survive off. If youre just after a bit of fun and want to cover the basic cost of the minis and the paint then Im pretty sure that you could do that though, there's always new gamers that want painted squads/armies to a tabletop standard

I'm surprised Trooper hasn't done this... But I like it! Actually, I'm trying to go for a similar fishnet effect on my Necromunda Mad Donna mini. It's been ages since I've worked on her though--she's been WIP for over a decade. Reject: Do you prime your minis before you paint them, or are you painting over bare metal?

what the hell guys, where's the red carpet for my return?.. So school's being a real b*tch with 9 courses, and hence my disappearance. Hopefully more time will be made for painting again, but not looking too promising until the summer. I've been sitting beside my minis for the last 5 months staring at them as I do work and wishing I could at least finish the one I started, so I said fk work tonight and did a little (much overdue) work on what I left off with at the end of the summer. Enjoy =] the finished product will be done in the next couple of days and someone PLEASE tell me walrus is still around!

Well now, it's been a long time since I've been on here. Been a long time since I managed to get anything done really... It was a... troubling... time for me over the last while so forgive my random disappearance and lack of contribution here. Long story short is since the last models I painted I split from the girl I was living with and she kinda destroyed ALL my armor. Sentinels, Chimera, Baneblade, unassembled Valkyrie... All gone in a matter of seconds. Kinda killed my inspiration to paint for a very long time, a loss of that magnitude. Plus I mean, there was the packing and moving out. Plus my dad passing away and funeral arrangements. Plus breaking up with another girl I had become rather close with... Just lots of nuts to deal with in not that long a span... AAAAAANYways... In the last month or so I got back into doing my thing but realized I got kinda bored of painting the same looking Imperial Guard over and over and over again. I picked up a new Sentinel to start replacing my lost vehicles, but that's all for the Guard. I went for variety. Don't like... crucify me for posting non-Guard stuff on a Guard forum =P I now have some Tau, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar to play around with, as you shall see in the pictures below. I also have a pretty cool new setup since I got my dad's den and he has a pretty nice art table in there. The lighting still has something to be desired though... As usual. My new pretty awesome setup The bunch of new things I've done recently Two drones One side of the Fire Warrior The other side, showing the shoulder A few finished Wolves (note that the one on the left is actually done by my current girlfriend and it looks pretty damn good) Closer view of the Wolves I painted Currently working on another Fire Warrior and a Wych Better view of the current detailing on the Wych What my girlfriend has done so far to compliment my army =3 The Sentinel I'm working on, gonna be customizing it like I did the first one Yes, the Sentinel IS dodging that missile! So yeah, that's what I got right now. Hopefully I'll have enough time to spare between work, school, video games and real life to fit painting in so as to have somewhat of a weekly update again or something. Expect me to update again as I can, I promise I won't completely disappear. I bet some of you forgot I existed, or just thought I died or something. Whatever works. Feedback plox~

Thank you, thank you. Good to be back and painting again. I was actually really worried about the wolves when I was painting them. They were one of those "I'm so gonna mess this up", "This looks so bad", "I have no idea what I'm doing" things, but it actually turned out decently. The coloring and washing of the white one (the arm one) pleased me =] I picked up a bunch more paints from my local store to give me more options with my guys. You'll notice the Tau from this point forward will have different colors than just the current red (like their standard colors lol), and on the Dark Eldar (which will come in the next post) for their colorful detailing. Also picked up a Tactical Marine squad for $25 since one Marine out of the kit was missing. Couldn't pass it up. And now for more stuff from the last week! Stealth Suit, standard Tau coloring Space Marine, Ultramarine Veteran Sergeant (? maybe ?) Forgot to get a picture of Aimee's Wytch which is now done, I'll add that in the next post since I'm not at home right now. It looks pretty good and she's got a second one on the way =] The washing on the Stealth Suit came out a little too dark/much I think and the face on the Space Marine is something to be desired. But hey, for the first actual face I've painted in over a year and a half it's not atrocious like my first ones were lol never was good at the faces... Tips for faces anyone? Plox?

Volcom Marines One thing these guys could do with is an highlight and edge highlight on the armour. I think it'd show the shading off a bit better, as your brushwork seems to be improving (studs on the shoulder pad, for example). Try adding some little swiggles to the purity seals too, it's dead easy and adds a bit more depth
