Looking good. I'm not too fond of the metal edges on the Russ though. It looks better when painted in the same colour like the rest of the tank. Otherwise the whole point of camoflague goes away.
As for infantry platoons, their PCS is good for getting a bunch of cheap special weapons. I prefer four falmers in a chimera since they don't require BS to hit. As for the squads, GL + AC is the best all-round solution.

Shostak(AWOL)- thank you good sir! I was going to set up my PCS with 4 flamers and each infantry squad with a grenade launcher. Should I put autocannons in the infantry squads or take a separate heavy weapons squad with autocannons? egon- I spent quite a while to decide whether or not to keep the metal parts or paint them the color. My reasoning for keeping the metal was its a tank, and therefore not very stealthy

Should I put autocannons in the infantry squads or take a separate heavy weapons squad with autocannons? You can do either of those or both! They're both very sound ideas, it really depends on whether you want your infantry squads to be moving or not.

Also another question: I read somewhere that if you attach your infantry squads, and attach a commissar with a camo-cape, then the entire squad gets a 3+ cover save when in cover. Is this right or did I read that wrong?

My understanding is that the whole squad gets stealth, which is a +1 to cover saves.

Hmmmm, guess I'll be taking a commissar then. Finally I get to use my Foregeworld DKoK commissar thats just been hanging around. Thanks for the input!

You'll be needing a Commissar Lord rather than just a Commissar though, only they can take camo cloaks.

Hey everyone. I am convinced that I am the worlds slowest painter.... Over the summer (3 months) I completed: My Executioner Plasmagasim And two veterans from my "Infiltrator" squad (Tanith Ghost Models) And thats it. Pathetic I know. However since school has started I managed to paint up 3 of another veteran squad And thats my update. Lame, I know. However, this summer I stumbled upon the greatest deal in the world. This: for $30. I cried with joy. I got a certified pre-owned Baneblade. Never seen battle, but I hope it will soon. Anyways thats my update. C&C welcome as always. Until next time, Zeke

Syphon- Yes they are. I haven't gotten any time to work on it at all yet. It will get some TLC soon.
Paimon- I thought it was a good deal....

I'd say $30 for an already built Baneblade that's in good condition is an epic win. Don't feel bad about slow painting--I have barely picked up a paintbrush since about 1/3 of the way through summer semester. School really interferes with hobby time.

Hey everyone. Long time since my last update, but here we go. First up, completely finished a chimera that has been in the works for about a year now. May I present, Shrapnel, which carries my first veteran squad into battle. Next, is one of my regular infantry platoon squads. I tried to mix it up a bit, and had some spare bits of catachans, so I gave it a whirl. I'm pleased, however they may look a little odd. Next is my veteran squad of Tanith Ghosts, halfway completed. I love the models but I feel as though I don't do them justice. Last is my most recent model, a drop veteran. My brother got me 10 cadian hazard environment torsos for my birthday, and I finally got around to painting it. Now, here is my problem. I feel like I paint a good table top quality, however I want to paint better. Are there any tips or pointers that anyone has to help improve my painting? I plan on starting a Night Lords army here in the next few weeks, and I really want them to look special. As always, C&C is welcome and appreciated.

Well, basing helps a model a long way. I typically basing the model with sand, rocks before i prime and ready for painting. Afterwards I flock with grass and additional moss etc. Your eyes on the guardsman looks slightly 'commando bold eyes', you need to trace around the eyes with a thin black line like mascara, it will make it look natural on their scale. Your tanks could use some FW or 'flames of war' powder to give extra depth. You cannot achieve this with paint in my experience. Its a grind down color charcoal powder. pick up the 'master class books' from FW for additional modeling and painting tips, the books are worth their price and more. You are doing quite well among the board members.

I know exactly what you mean, zeke, when you say that you don't think you can do the models justice. That's why my Ghosts are still unassembled. With special characters not of your own devising, they are like the reason I chose not to play Lord of the Rings. You can paint your Rohirrim purple instead of green, but they'll still be Rohirrim. That, and I worry that I suck at painting so that they will look horrible. This goes double for FW stuff. I would love to get my hands on Lietpold the Black but I know I suck at painting. Anyway, I love the drop veteran. What's with the random guys with super buff arms, though? Captain Tolkan (like Captain America) in the house?

macknight, thanks for the tips about the eyes. I now see what you mean. As for the powder, is there a place or a brand that is better than others? If so could you point me in the right direction. Thanks syphon! And yes, that one guardsman was selected for an experiment which led to him being able to bench press a Russ. In all actuality, I was trying to break up the rank in file troops, and had catachan bits lying around. Presto chango, Guardsman Rambo and Guardsman America.

The powders you can shave off of pastel pencils or charcoal if you want, seem too much work for me, so I bought from FW, though recently I saw in my local store that Flames of War started to carry powders for detail as well.
I typically paint the skin, highlight, whites in the eyes, dot of black for iris and line around the eyes, go over the eyes with skin tone if any mistakes or too the black line is too thick, making sure the whites of the eyes are visible, then a wash of ogryn flesh to blend it down.

Alright, I tried the black circle around the eyes, and you're right macknight, it looks a lot better. Now, this picture was taken on my phone, but any C&C is appreciated.

Thanks macknight! That's kind of the look I was going for? Originally I tried to do the black lines around the eyes, but don't have the hand dexterity so I just decided to do a black layer, then white, then dot the eyes. Thanks for the tip!
