WOW! Kirsten... I didn't see that coming! That broad side looks so cool and the bases finish them off really well! Will you add any tanks to this army? or will it be a troop and Battle suit army? Major Downer

thanks very much
the original plan was for quite a different army, though still farsight enclaves. then I decided to go for 'the eight' as it seemed like a cheap and cool looking force and came to 1500 points. But I wasn't too keen on the weapon load outs for a lot of them so I kept farsight and commander torchstar who is the guy with the flamers and marker drones, and then tweaked all the rest. my regular opponent prefers 2000 point games so I will need to add another 500 points, but not sure what. simple addition would be a couple of hammerheads and a sunshark. also considering a few fire warrior squads. but I am leaning more towards keeping it pure battlesuits, another crisis squad, some more broadsides, and some stealth suits.
1500 points looks like:
Farsight Commander, two flamers, target lock, drone controller, two marker drones Commander, two fusion blasters, shield generator, stim injector
Riptide, burst cannon, stim injector, earth caste pilot Riptide, ion cannon, stim injector
crisis team, four burst cannons, flamer, air burst launcher, counter fire defence, two shield drones crisis suit, two fusion blasters, shield generator crisis suit, two fusion blasters, shield generator
broadside, missile drones, shield generator.
11 suits, ten drones.
after the game against the eldar I think the commander with the flamers is a waste of his BS5, so I will make him a normal suit with flamers for deep striking on to infantry. the other commander may swap his fusion guns for plasma rifles, again to get more shots and maximise his ballistic skill, or maybe even two burst cannons. I might add a squad or two of marker drones as well, more marker lights would be handy.

thanks very much I hope to add quite a bit more in the not too distant future but I have to move house at the end of this month so it could be a few months now before I get any more hobby stuff done unfortunately.

You've not gone Riptide mad, have you? She may have riptide madness but that's no excuse for riptide rudeness

Sorry about that... routine Imperial intelligence gathering...
The new broadsides are great models, I don't mind riptides either but I haven't fought them yet. Besides you can get whole Knight armies anyway and unbound armies now.

not read any of the 7th edition rules yet. I refuse to read any forum threads discussing it because the only worthwhile approach is to read the rulebook for yourself and ignore all the many internet prejudices. but I don't want to pay £50 for a rulebook, when the other two books it comes with will never be taken off the shelf. so I am waiting to see if there will be a new/updated boxed set this summer.
the broadsides are awesome models, as are pretty much everything in the tau army these days. I have only had one game with the army so far, but the burst cannon riptide utterly shredded a harlequin unit, which was excellent. the game used all of my city terrain, and with pretty much my whole army having jump packs, the final turns had my battlesuits (including riptides) up on the roofs of various buildings merrily gunning down fleeing eldar that passed below them.

Yeah.. I don't know anyone who has bought 7th yet.. Still playing 6th myself for the immediate future.
Using jet packs in a city fight was a bit risky - those dangerous terrain tests are just lethal if you're unlucky with armour saves.
Which kit are you going to work on first for your new Tau?

not at all, only risky in ruins, my buildings are all healthy and undamaged, no reason for a difficult terrain test I have built eight Pathfinders, three with rail rifles, a shas'ui, and four normal. going to build the last two as normal pathfinders as well. after that I will see how quickly things arrive in the post, I'd like to build the sunshark, but it might be the broadside as that is already here in my possession.

I am glad to hear it. I get very little painting done these days, but I enjoyed painting this army.

That's the good thing about having a playable army painted. You can just paint what you want when you are motivated to paint it. The downside is the lack of epic projects.

I am going to try and get some of the new tau stuff painted, keep up with that force so it doesn't get out of hand. after that I plan to paint a fantasy army, probably either my chaos warriors or ogres, not sure yet. leaning toward ogres because there aren't that many of them...

They look really scary; great modelling work.
Did you have to add lots of putty? What miniatures were you using to begin with; minotaurs or something?

thanks, I am so pleased with them.
they start life as plastic minotaurs, and I remove all the fur. an ogre weapon to tie them in to the army. the head is the tricky part. it is a minotaur head with the dangling jowls removed. cut the head vertically just behind the jaw so it just leaves the open mouth. horizontal cut to remove the nostrils and leave a flat top. remove a lot of extra muscle and flesh from around the back of the jaw. take an ogre head, horizontal cut right below the nose. top of the ogre head goes on top of the minotaur jaw, then greenstuff to smooth the two together.
