A new year and new inspiration. After my recent heresy of collecting Xenos filth I've decided once again to concentrate my efforts in devotion of the God Emperor! I was trying to decide whether to build a Death Korp of Krieg force or Ultramarines again when I came across a pic of a Black Templar. After a lot of head scratching I thought about it and decided to do a full Imperial Crusade that way I can field anything from the Imperial range. So to start with I'll be concentrating on Black Templars and Krieg elements. First up will be the test model for my new Krieg regiment. Really nice work Jud, I like the dark raw colours on the horse and the armour. Do you have a set of 5 to paint up?

MD, sadly I only have the one for now. I do have 3 Quadlaunchers with crew. I’m still waiting on the Templars stuff to arrive.

Really decent work on the Thudd gun, I escpecially like the metal colours.
The rifle leaning against the frame is a nice touch, at least he has a weapon to carry if they get over thrown.
I second Nutty on the base, very fitting.

So you can't have a Crusade without Crusaders right? Here's my Marshal!  Templar Marshal  Templar Marshal  Templar Marshal  Templar Marshal Templar Marshal I really spent some time modelling this guy, I've used bitz from the Helbrecht kit and the Primaris Capain plus some other parts. I just love these Primaris they'll look awesome next to the Krieg. I need to work out a symbol (campaign badge) for the Crusade, any ideas? I'd like something simple but effevtive that I can easily reproduce. |

That's a good looking marshal. By putting two bionic arms on a Black Templar you do run the risk of "Tis but a scratch" jokes.. but I think he turned out badass enough that most people won't dare to.  As for a canpaign badge.. are you going to put it on the Kriegsmen too? Because that is something to keep in mind for sure. Maybe you use the Dark Angels company markings as inspiration:  I've always liked the heraldic look those have, and I think they would fit the theme you have going here. They wouldn't look out of place on templars or kriegers IMHO. Plus some of them relativly simply to represent on a small enough scale to paint on a Krieg uniform. |

He looks cool! I like the duel Bionical arms, maybe his last plasma pistol blew his arms off?
Really well done on the sholder pads, the brash looks really good and the highlights looks good.
I won't be much help with campaign badges I'm afraid but I'm sure you'll have something fitting that will work well.

What is your highlight colour for black power armour? I need to paint some Fallen, evil Dark Angels on the run but can't paint black power armour.
Did you like the new SM primaris vanguard units?

Those badges are exactly what I was looking for! I was going to do a stylised cross or a skull but lets face it there’s enough skulls and crosses on the models already.
I’ll be going with the 7th Company symbol but with th “v” upside down with a red circle and ivory “v” I’ll use it on all Crusade units. Thanks again.
Thanks MD, Plasma malfunctions are common place (especially with my dice rolls!) plus I thought it looked cool.
Cheminhaler, for the black I basecoat with Vallejo black, first highlight with Citadel Dark Reaper and second highlight with Citadel Thunderhawk Blue.
The Vanguard look amazing! I will add some definitely, though not the Librarian (filthy mutant!)
I want the Primaris element of the force to be mobile while the Krieg will be pretty much static (except for the Cavalry)

I'm enjoying this colour scheme a lot and I like the red against the black, you've got it spot on.
I woundn't have known any different if you didn't point out the sholder pads. who uses the build guides these days anayway?

Oh it's a real thing:.. a relic grenade that allows you yo roll a d6 for every 10 models in a unit. On each roll of 2+ it does d3 mortal wounds. I'm guessing someone at GW has a soft spot for Monthy Python too. Those Marines look great, but I don't directly see what is wrong(?) With the barrels. The badge looks great as do the detail on those shoulder pads. Those are the FW terminator pads right? |

Thanks MD, I put a lot of thought into how to represent the colour scheme, the Black Templars can be done in so many ways.
I always like to use as small a selection of colours as possible, glad you think I got it right.
Nutty, that sounds amazing! I’m a long way off gaming atm.
Some of the pads are from Forgeworld and some are from the Upgrade kit from GW.
I got bored this evening so I’ve built a Chaplain and 2 Lieutenants.
Next update will be a Quadlauncher and crew.

With this update of the Second Barbarossa Crusade more Krieg. I've finished my second Quadlauncher, I've tried to keep it along the same lines as the first. A trench base with an ammo container this time, hopefully it looks weathered enough to give the impression of it being out on campaign, without making it look like a wreck! I've added the Crusade badge to each model now, should tie everything together. The Campain markings look really good, they pop off the sholder pad well and a great tie in with the Black Templar.
The more I look at the green coats, the more I'm liking them.
Bring on the Chaplain.

I think a badge is the way to go as you've looked into this quite deeply, so I think just plain numbering would be an easier/lazier option if you weren't too fussed. Pluss it makes your army more personal and adds to the fluff of your army. |

How fast are you painting, you're machine! You must be really enjoying painting these mini's?
Great work on the face, I appriciate people who can do faces that good because they're my worst nightmare.
What paints do you use?
