Nutty, the Crozius Arcanum (think that’s right) was from the Horus Heresy box set, I’ve had it lying around for years and have been looking for an excuse to use it! The shaft and handle were from a force weapon from the Grey Knights range.
MD, I don’t know what’s happened this week, I’m in the zone painting wise! I’m loving working on this project, the Krieg are awesome sculpts and the Templars just ooze with personality. Doing them both together is exactly where I want to be! Kinda like best of both worlds.
For the face I used all Citadel paints. Base coat of Cadian Fleshtone, washed with Reikland fleshshade, then mixed Cadian Fleshtone with increasing amounts of Kislev flesh and added Flayed one flesh to the mix.
Next up will be 2 Castellans (Black Templar Lieutenants) then the last of the Quadlaunchers!

Finished the first of 2 Castellans. I've used bits from the GW Black Templars upgrade set (an absolute God Emperor send) there are so many useful bitz on the frames. Hopefully when the new Codex is released Lieutenants will get the option to take powerfists! (The updated Intercessor Data sheet features the option) I'm really pleased with how the banner went, I'm not usually confident enough to do things freehand but I think I got away with it! He looks great, very characterful. The Aquila on his chest really pops in that last picture. I have one of those upgrade sets and there are some great bits on there for sure, I'm looking forward to what else you build with them.

Thanks nutty! This is my second Castellan, again he's a mix of parts from the Black Templars Upgrade kit as well as the Primaris Captain eagle pad (with the red and black I think it looks a bit Judge Dredd!!) I've done him bare headed because I wanted to practice human faces. Not sure if you can see it in the pics but one of his eyes is blind. I think I'll call him Phillip. How fast are you painting?! I didn't even see the first Castellan post.
I like the pose on the rock, he means business. I often do this at work when I'm getting my point across, just without the pistol, Bolter gun, Power armer and the sword. I'm so jealous of the face work, I think I'm going to have to practice on Cadian heads.
What is the squad size that you'll go for?

Phil is looking dapper you can just make out his milky eye in the last picture (on mobile atleast) and the scars around it look great. Are you adding 'regular' marine, or primaris troops?

Those Castellans look insanely detailed. Thanks for the highlight tips; I got Thunderhawk blue the other day and already had the other highlight colour

MD, I’ve had a load of time these past few weeks, so I’ve been painting roughly one model a day! If you look as pissed as Phillip does your work force must live in fear! I’m pleased you like the faces, I did a couple of fish heads when I was working on the T’au so I used what I learned there on these. I was scared to try for a long time but thought I’d just go for it. Next up for the Templars will be 5 Intercessors (the guys with boltrifles) I’m waiting for some chain to be delivered before I start them. In the mean time I’ve got one last Quadlauncher and crew to finish.
Nutty, thanks, glad it shows up on the pics. I’ll be building the whole Black Templars element as Primaris ( they seem to be the future) my next purchase will be some Intercessors and a Redemptor Dread.
Cheminhaler, I’m happy to be of use! Good luck with the black armour.

Got the last of the Quadlaunchers done. These are some of my favourite models in the Krieg range (barring Deathriders!) and were a joy to build and paint. My only complaint is that there were only a few arm options. So the poses aren't as dynamic as I'd like. With this completion I've hit my first milestone, my first Detachment for the Second Barbarossa Crusade! A small one but my first. Death Korps of Krieg Quadlauncher Death Korps of Krieg Quadlauncher Battery Really happy with how this project is going and I'll be adding to them slowly. Thanks for the interest!

Those quadlaunchers turnes out great! The little detail bits on the bases are a nice touch: they really add a sense of life to the models.
The faded green(?) coats look great as well, for some reason they looked grey to me in the previous pictures, but looking back through the first page I'm not sure why I thought that.

Lol! You’re right with both! They’re German Field Grey! Though the final highlight is with a light green.

Well worth the wait! I think you've really captured what the Astartes are ment to be: every one an individual (and hero) in his own right. The all have a unique look to them whilst still looking very much like a unit.

Thanks nutty, that’s exactly what I was going for!
Next up I’ll be adding some more Krieg.

Very nice. You've captured them as Hero's very well, they will stand out on their own for sure, it's a well exicuted idea. No need to apologies for the pictures, they're good to look at.

Thanks MD! I’m happy that I managed to get that across.
Hope the move isn’t keeping you too busy. Looking to an update from you soon.
Next up from me will be some Krieg.

I've been very busy moving everything and seeing your updates make me very jealous.
I'll be painting again soon, it's a special project coming up.
Very Noice! I'm interested to see how this force plays, you'll have to work hard to cut through the Marines, to stop thoes Thudd guns.

That’s the main idea of the Crusade, the Astartes will be the spearhead with the Krieg being the gunline. With that in mind I want the marines to be as mobile as possible.
It’ll give me the best of both worlds, mass infantry and artillery with power armoured super humans, also I should avoid painting burn out by having a good variety of models to work on!
“Special project “ care to elaborate? Or are you keeping it as a surprise?

I see what you doing, almost like in Halo, you have the pothetic marines fighting along side Spartens, that have do all the 'heavy lifting'.
That's pretty good, you can alternate between the two if you feel a burn, you can switch to something different but inkeeping with your Crusade army. Like it was mean't to be haha.
It involves paint and Paint brushes, that's is all.

That's amazing. How do you keep the black so matte?
The Intercessor with knight helmet looks great; you should add a few more of those. I think there's another helmet like that in the Sternguard box and another on the Ravenwing upgrade sprue.

Those turned out great (and so did the engineers, I must've messed up my comment somehow)

Really nice work on those engineers, they're cool models, I like the equipment they carry on them.
These really make me want to do Black Templars, they look like they're coming to make you a new exit hole. I've also just finished the first season of Knight Fall on Netflix, so that maybe another reason why I'm tempted by the templars.
When do we get to see vehicles?
