Yeah unfortunately.. though I might ship some to my buddy in England, since i know a few sites that have cheap or free shipping to them for PP models and he can bring them when he comes over in September.. at least with GW models I can order from Maelstorm and get free shipping.. so that is a blessing in disguise at least..
Got more paint done last night on the ungors.. the purple skin is coming out nicely.. though I might need to do another coat on it.. just hope it still looks ok when I add the off white padding and cloth pieces and very dark brown fur..
Cheers Gris

I'm taking a forced vacation day from painting, and I'm grumpy about it, but I'll live. don't ask I'll post a model tomorrow, you can count on it.

Um ok then.. i am taking a forced going to get some more work done on my Ungors tonight day.. so there but you wont see anything on them since I wont have them finished tonight.. not even close.. maybe this weekend though.. there might be a possibility for it to be done by the end of the weekend since the wife and I are planning on staying in for the most part since the last few weekends and the weekends coming up are planning on being quite busy.. Cheers and good luck with your non painting holiday TB Gris

meh, it's not a holiday, I'm undergoing a series of treatments that for a day after the treatment I can't touch the substance I'm being treated for. today was my iron treatment so I can't touch minis and paints (both of which have iron in them) for a day

1pt for the infantry sized model, 1pt for conversion, and .5 for quality (I'll claim the other .5 when I get both my infantrymen based already!!). I put in a ton of work on this guy too, and I'm pretty happy with how he looks. I might do a few more glaze/wetbrushing runs on the cloak with some white just to solidify it but all told I'm really happy with this new guy.

Looks great TB.. a squad of 10 of these bad boys will look killer... Now I have a problem.. a big problem.. a problem of epic proportions that is going to cut ino and possibly remove my ability to paint for the next little while.. I bought a Wii.... This thing is addictive, but I am hoping that the wife plays it more over the weekend so I can get in some nice quality painting done.. but yeah I spent pretty much all night last night playing around with it with the wife.. and although it was damn expensive ( 1200 YTL or like 900 US ) for the system, 2 games, and spare controller.. it was soooo worth it.. wife and I had soo much fun with it.. so yeah.. I'm AFP ( away from painting ) for the next little while So get cracken on painting boys.. now is the time to get the troops done up and catch up to the leader here for the competition.. its like a nice 2-4 week hiadus considering I have a vacation coming up soon as well.. let's see the gap get smaller here.. Cheers Gris

hopefully those who're away from their painting tables will be able to return soon and resume their work and...OMGOSH $900 FOR A WII!?!?! THAT'S INSANE! (hope you have a blast with it ) I wanted to say a little more about how I did the cloaks - you had asked if I could give a walk-thru or some tips about how to get the flowey parts really going and I didn't have much time to write out a post at the time of my reply. here's a link to a tutorial I wrote out: commissar.proboards22.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Painting&thread=1186050383

cough broken link cough....
Would like to see it, maybe post it up in the conversion section so we can see it there? It really did turn out really nice mate.. would love to be able to copy it myself, even though the Brushthralls one is nicely laid out as well..
And yeah 900 US.. stupid import taxes to turkey.. but then again its console, 2 full controllers ( Wii mote and nunchuk ), plus 2 full games on top of the 2 multipack games I got with it.. so yeah its good..and yeah my arm hurts from playing it too much last night..
I really need to get these beastmen footballers and human team completed though.. need to keep my tabletop nerdiness up there as well..
Cheers Gris

link was broken cuz I was putting the article in the conversions forum instead of here and hadn't got it up yet to fill in the link hehe.
can't wait to see your footballers!
I'm going on vacation for a couple days so you won't see much from me for a bit unfortunately.

I'll drop in one or two minis tomorrow and on Sunday. Nothing to spectecular, but at least some points to get me back up again (and hopefully of that last place...)
Tboy btw what do you think about changing the showdown rules for the next paintoff. Currently one can eliminate everybody in short time with just one showdown. But if you change it to single elimination (every showdown on the last loses, it get much more interesting as one good painter can't kick out everybody with just one showdown). And another point for such a system would be that you get much more intense fights on the lower ranks and especially the ones with low point counts will try to get at least one place up before the showdown period ends. And imho only the current leader should be able to call showdowns.
Summery of my suggestions: - only leader can call a showdown - only the last participiant gets kicked - much longer time a paintoff will last - more intense fighting and more motivation on the lower places
Alternatively you could also make some different factors for showdowns (fixed dates or depending on the leaders point count) if you want to shorten the paintoff.

hmm it's definately something to consider, what do you think of it grisnik? seems like we're the only 3 posting to the paintoff thread right now.
what I hear you saying, knight, is that you'd like some motivation to stay out of last place eh? we could do the type of showdown you recommended for the next showdown if you'd like to see how it works, though with such low activity in the paintoff it's a possibility that no one will fight to stay in. if you look back over the last 3 pages I'm willing to bet that pics from my entries are pretty much the only pics posted. no one's posted anything but me since gris called his showdown then cancelled it a while ago.
some people have said they're unable to paint for a while, others have bowed out but yeah. I'm tempted to say for you to pass all the low people, knight, then call a showdown. if they aren't back at the painting table by the time last place passes the pack then they probably won't miss being out of the competition.
I'm entirely catchable at the rate I'm painting and gris has been pretty dormant lately with not really posting much (though I think he's holding his models to a digree). I'm focused on pure quality right now which isn't the way to go if you want to win this thing. I don't care though, it's just what I'm doing heh. I think grisnik is in the same boat - working on conversion projects and the like.
I wish I could paint today but I'm going on vacation so I'll see you all in a bit!

Perhaps no one will hand in pics but that wouldn't change anything from the state right now. So if we would only kick the last one out the paintoff will surely take much longer as we will only lose one per showdown and not the whole crew

I'll leave it up to you guys as far as the consensus on how to handle it. I'll start a poll and you can post your votes there. the poll will be open for 7 days then the result will be put into effect.

Posting some pics of the work i have done lately: These 4 guys are newly painted The rest I just based and where painted before my "initial army picture", so I only claim points for basing them: sorry for the crappy pictures, i have tried two different cameras but i just cant get the pictures any sharper

here's a link to the vote regarding showdowns: commissar.proboards22.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=picpost&thread=1186082520minus: I'll give you 5pts, sound fair? 4pts for 4 newly painted infantry sized models + .5 for quality (clean looking paint jobs) +.5 for all the basing you did. (I'm going to doublecheck the basing point totals so this quote is subject to change in the next couple minutes. *edit* yeah, I didn't include point bonuses for basing because I wanted to handle that as a 'you should base your models to get your points' type thing, but I'm not adverse to giving a light point bonus for basing up models that weren't based but were painted before the paintoff started. is .5 acceptable for the basing work you did? consider that 1pt is the basic amount of points gained for fully painting an infantry sized mini - compare that to how long you spent basing your minis. .5 feels fair to me but I'm always open to your input.

That sounds perfectly ok. As you probably notice I didnt use the most complex method in the world for basing

Sure.. sounds good.. we can even begin that style of elimination here and now.. and me?? hording models??? nooo.... Though at the same time.. I am sitting pretty for the time being.. and if I can get these damn footballers finished.. that will give me a nice bump again.. I voted for option C as well.. I have no problems with it.. and expect some models to be posted up this weekend.. I am hoping to get a few done.. at the very least 4 models.. Cheers Gris

Yeah. I hope for some good light today. I have 1 (ok normally 2, but one is part of my secret) mini that I want to drop in. But the last day the weather ruined all good pics...

Ok Just to get rid of dead wood..
Showdown to get rid of the last place ( or ties thereof ) within the paintoff contest.. whomever is on the bottom has 7 days to make sure they are not there..
TB you are catching up quick here.. I will have to finish up my models like something fierce here to keep my lead happening..
Cheers Gris

nah, I'm just working on quality models - there's no way I can be competitive working on quality models - something I'd like to fix for next years paintoff. any ideas on how to better award quality bonuses so that people can paint quality pieces and stay competitive?
as far as the showdown goes, I'll slate it for 7 days from now.
couple things to present to you all:
first, should 27thdesertrascal be considered auto-eliminated due to having a score of 0? what do you all think?
if we auto-eliminate 27thdesertrascal then I vote that minus gets a pass on this showdown, he's been active and there are those who totally haven't been that are low on the ladder.
what say you all?

I say all that are at zero are to get the boot.. is minus at zero currently? From what I saw he is at 7.75 right now.. and thus is safe so long as the rest dont post more than 7.75 or more models worth.. there is no auto eliminations or at least there shouldn't be.. we should give everyone, even 27th, a chance to get back into the game here..
TB you could actually do it well enough I think.. also for quality next year though I think it should be a weekly voting thing.. start up a seperate thread and get people to vote on the quality of the models for them.. even if it is only the one person voting then whatever.. but it might drive more participation.. get more people involved.. though at the same time it could keep the quality scores lower as well.. so I dunno.. pros and cons I guess to that method..
Cheers Gris

Devil Dog #3: one of the reasons I like these guys is because they're very diverse. there's 2 types of trooper model and 2 poses to each trooper model then there's a 3rd type of guy and the merc unit leader model too. gotta love diversity! I really am not too happy with the pics this time around, I dunno what it is but they just don't do the model justice. oh well what can you do. I'm gonna take 3pts on him; 1 for infantry sized model, 1 for conversions (cloak, cloak pin, sleeves instead of bare arms are all greenstuffed), and 1 for quality (it's 6:30am and I need sleep - those cloaks take a long time, like 10+ coats each). fine with me if anyone at 0 pts is eliminated this time around. 27thdesertrascal, if you're still around, then PAINT!

Looks good TB... the metal didnt turn out as nice as the previous models though it seems.. or maybe it is the pictures.. just doesnt look at good as the previous ones were there..
That aside the cloak is beautiful mate.. very well done, both with shading and just the overall effect it portrays as well.. you definately have that part of the modelling down now that is for sure.. keep it up and good luck with the copy cat models now.. thats the downside to metal.. too many the same and gets boring to paint them over and over again :S
