that's one of the cool things about this squad though, for the base squad of 6, there are no copycats when I take it up to 10 I'm gonna get another kit and do some conversions *pats bonesaw and eyes pewter* the metal has a new type of ink on it, I actually like the effect that it gives but I didn't go over the whole model and redo all the metals after inking like I should have - I wanted to leave some of the smoke ink visible to test out the patina it brought to the model. makes it look a bit more worn and I like it more than the brown or black ink that I have been using. I might do a combination of both (brown/black ink and smoke ink) so that way I can fill the cracks and give a nice subtle texture to the metals.

I've been casually converting my first mercenary heavy warjack over the last couple days - I've chopped off legs and arms, even part of its torso and been using plasticard to 'weld on' some patch job armor plating. still a work in progress but I figured I'd post my progress report since there seems to be quite the lull the last few days.

anyone mind me scoring 1 whole point for these 4 rough terrain markers I made? I'm gonna get some brown felt and cut them up into rough terrain templates for warmachine and I wanted them to look 100% max sexy so I made these little rough terrain markers to put on the brown felt - that way I could just remove them if there is a unit moving over them. someone object if you don't think it's fair I scored 1pt for these 4 markers and I'll deduct it from my score.

They look good mate.. I object that you get 1 point though.. nah just kidding.. they are nice looking mate.. I made something similiar for my Ogres and Goblins for when I cast Remains in play spells to show that they are still there.. have to make animosity markers next for my Goblins.. it kinda happens more than i would like it to when playing them but still good none the less Cheers Gris

Showdown complete. all the 0pt people have been moved to 'defeated' status.
I'm currently working on some Infinity minis, anyone object to me scoring them for points as I finish them?

Going on holidays this weekend.. thursday to tuesday.. Amsterdam Celebrating with the wife with the news that we are going to have our first child So yeah less painting to happen soon here.. but I am hoping to get back into the swing of it starting middle of next week.. sweet! congrats Gris! yeah, I've been away from the painting table too - one of the local gaming forums was like 'infinity tournament!' and I realized I had some minis for the game in my closet and assembled/primed them 1 day, got the rulebook and read it that night, played a few games the next day, got some more minis to adjust my list that afternoon, then tied for 2nd in the tournament (out of 6) the third day. my army was 7 minis big it's a really fun game and I think you'll really dig the minis. but yeah, I haven't been painting much lately either - didn't want to start painting my infinity minis without seeing a solid paint scheme in my mind first. grats on the kiddo on the way gris will try to get a mini pumped out so you can see some of the sexiness that is infinity minis soon!

Thanks, and cool, cant wait to see the models.. always interested to see smaller gang style table top miniature games.. easier to convince the wife to play them.. just have to "accidently" lose every once and a while to her to keep her interested..

first infinity model. he was one of my MVPs at the tournament where I tied for 2nd so he got the honors of being first painted gonna claim 2pts for him - did really sweet blending on him (1pt for infantry sized model, 1pt for quality). note the warmachine mini in the background that's a sneak peak WIP *edit* woo! cracked 70pts *stagger* I'm slowly getting caught up there, gris..gimmie a sec *pants for breath*... I'm comin' I'm comin' ... *staggers on up the mountain of pts grisnik has piled up*

*cough moldlines cough*... other than that though nice job.. any other views of the model? Would like to see different angles to get a better view of the model.. Also I started painting the Skaven Mordheim gang.. got them re-assembled, made cobblestone bases, and basecoated with some metal and fur painted.. going to do a bit more work on them and hope to get them up before I leave tomorrow night for Amsterdam.. will hopefully create another bump in the points here for me to get away from that creeper of a point snatcher TB Cheers Gris

So yeah.. 8 models.. reassembled, and custom bases as well.. cheers Gris

They look good. But you should perhaps try to highlight and shade them a bit as they look really flat. Also you should try to use at least sand on the bases to get some structure there. And congrats Gris, and please keep the lead a bit more.

ok! sorry about the lag time in response, life has been really really busy! minus, I'm gonna give you 6pts for 6 infantry sized models, plus .25 for quality (clean crisp lines and solid colors) per model for a total of 7.5. furthermore, I'm going to offer you a bonus opportunity to earn 10(!!!!!!!!) points. interested? this will be your task. 1. buy a paintpot of brown ink. 2. mix some ink with water (start with a 4:1 ratio of water to ink (that's 4 parts water, 1 part ink). 3. paint on the ink wash onto a model, do a nice thick coat - heck slop it on if you feel like it, but do a thick juicy coat of ink wash. make sure to slop it all over the models face too. even if you can't see what the ink wash has done, set the model aside and let it dry. 4. repeat this process with different mini with an ink wash of 3:1 (water to ink). 5. repeat this process with a different mini with an ink wash of 2:1 (water to ink). !!!*important note*!!! take pics of the models once the ink wash is fully dried, and post them as proof of your bonus tasks completion. 6. decide which you like the best, and repaint the rest. (that's only 2 models that will need repainting and you'll gain 10(!!) points. you up to it? this'll teach you a trick that you will use for the rest of your life to achieve awesome results in painting AND it'll get you into the paintoff better. a win-win to be sure ok grisnik now for yours.... you get 8pts for 8 infantry sized models, and I'm going to let you claim a conversion bonus for the bases based on how hard they were to do (easy would be .1 to .2, something you're really proud of that took hours worth of work would be .9-1.0 bonus points). I will have final call on the actual point credit, but I want your input. also, due to the difficulty in determining a quality bonus for the minis' paint, you tell me what you think is fair? how hard was it, did it take long? did it take skill and painting technique? you tell me what you think is right. 1pt being max quality bonus. I'll post your 8pts now gris, and minus, I'll post your 7.5. gris get back to me on conversion bonus and quality bonus and I'll tack those on.

Took me an evening to get the bases done.. mostly time consuming with the cutting into the putty to make the bricks.. then smoothing it out, then going over them again.. Paint wise.. meh half and half.. I tried a few grey/blue highlight to the black.. not 100% sold on it.. but I think it will turn out ok.. up to you on quality.. I will try to take better pics of them later this week, maybe that will help.. when the sun is out and such.. just got home from Amsterdam.. kinda tired.. kinda not.. and my other computer is not working nicely atm.. so I cant upload anything since it is all on the other machine even if I wanted to.. Check you all laters.. and will do up a proper post in the morning/pm ish maybe Gris

minus - 1.6 for that kasrkin..he looks very nice - good red/white camo in there, very clean and crisp. .6 for quality, 1 for the infantry sized model.
gris - .25 for each conversion base, +.35 in quality for each rat.
so .25x8=2.0 and .35x8=2.8
total bonus of 4.8 for the 8 rats.

gonna call this guy equal to a walker (3pts), +1pt for conversions (swapped leg and his left shoulder - added some patchwork armor plating to cover the join, split the head in half (top and bottom) and used the top half of a head from a different model) and +1pt for painting (been working on this guy off and on for a week now). total of 5pts for me on it unless anyone objects.

Sorry been sick and my computer died.. so lack of posts were going to happen i guess.. Nice model mate.. though the armor doesn't look as good as the prevous ones, but then again it might be the photo.. any chance you can take more pics of it, and with maybe a darker solid color background? ( binder with blue or black on it works ) Other than that though it looks great.. loving the base there.. muddy snow base.. just like winter in vancouver Just needs more slush snow and it would be a perfect replicate of winters I grew up in How many points worth of Mercs do you have now? You must be getting up there in the points by now with all the models that you have there eh? Looking good.. Gris

I'm playing 500pt games with my mercs though only some of the stuff is painted. alot of what I've painted (the talon and 2 grundback gunner warjacks) are sidelined and not in use though. sad really considering the work that went into them (though the grundback gunners I bought with the mindset of using them to learn to paint with). will try and snap off a few more pics of the mule at some point, though I'm gonna be getting into doing some work on my guard here for a while as I'm back on speaking terms with my 40k hobby addiction

Hee hee good to know.. I tried to go some painting this week but the heat in Istanbul is getting to the point where it is drying out my paints faster than I would care for them to be.. even watered down it is just killing the colors.. am going to hope that I can get some work in later at night over the weekend on my Beastmen footballers and see if I can get a couple of them finished.. they are staring at me.. calling out to be painted.. screaming at me saying " we are purple.. no highlights.. and my hair is black.. while his is brown.. whats going on.. finish us.. now.. or the goblins will be sacrificed to the herdstones... "
yes its warm.. and I'm a bit loopy atm..
cheers Gris

haha right on man...and I know you weren't sick, you were PLAYING THE WII! some finishing touches on my guard: so for basing do like .3pts (and that's only cuz the way I do the big bases is some work - I actually take everything off the big base then paint it green and flock it then reglue everything back onto the base) .3 for the sandbags - took a lil while, 2 coats of tan + brown ink wash then glued onto the bases call it good at .6 for this lil bit of work.
