Should be some good stuff and well worth the wait. Ive been reading through some of the other armies codex lately and been gawking at what I see in the covers. Orks just seem to get stuff because someone somewhere thought it would be cool. I mean seriously, a trukk with 6 meganobz still being a "Fast" vehicle? WTF. Marines are an amazing army... Still... I just hope that our codex will have stuff in it that is in mesh with our fluff and still be good to field.

I guessing that when our new codex comes it it will have material in it that counters everything else in someway, thus making the guard a renewed viable option for starting out. Hopefully all that we've heard that is good will be true, and nothing we've heard that is bad will be true. Something needs to be in there for giving guardsmen the ability to display how the Imperial Guard work in the fluff with adaptability.
For example, if a regiment of fresh recruits was deployed against the Iron Warriors Cult and encountering lots of vehicles, that regiment of green horns and butt scratchers would soon become wittled down to a group of awesome tank busters and infiltrators so that they could sneak up on the artillery and disable it. Something's gotta be in there to help us represent the ways that our own personal companies and regiments adapt in the field, similar to doctrines but not quite.
I like this idea of "orders" that Willythewonk posted in another thread, and it makes sense, sort of: Commissar: "tanks! tanks! focus everything you've got on that armour, now!" Guardsman: *craping noise as he soils his fatigues* "Oh my Emperor! Tanks!" Enemy Tank: *Dead*
But then again, how would it cover infiltration? "Hide!" or deep striking? "Jump!"
I'm still in favour of upgrading each squad individual squad, like with the old space marine hardened veterans. Each squad should be able to buy Tank Hunters, Infiltate, Deep Strike, Furious Charge, Scout, and all of those

But with this new "platoon drill," or whatever it is your above quote maybe closer to the truth than you think. Just take out Squad and insert Platoon and thats what I have a feeling its going to be. Now it maybe somewhat different but from what has been circulating around the web thats pretty damn close.

Yes with a cheaper list my mech IG well be h3ll on tracks Agreed. After spending $350 on Chimeras alone, then a bunch on the steel legion metal trooper. It would be nice to feel like my army is more than a mobile death trap. Even if the wording in the codex was that any infantry unit could be mounted in a Chimera. Instead of must be mounted in a chimera. Cant tell you the amount of times I didn't field my mechanized force due to that little word, it seriously does make the difference of 6 tanks and 50 troops, or 3 tanks and 90 troops.

if the new 'dex allows us to mix an match squad and such, I would have like 2 squad in chimera's, 1 squad with a missile launcher and tank hunters or infiltrate or some other goody, and a squad that deep strikes. That would be my dream platoon!

Exactly! I like the idea of a little variety and flexibility in the forces. It makes it harder to predict what a guard player will field, and it makes sure that every time we make a points list that we can mix it up a little and give new abilities or different weapon options to our troops.

Well, I went and saw my local source, the Hydra is definatly in the new codex, along with 21 other tanks, and his main piece of info was buy as much infantry as you can while you can! so I walked out with 2 boxed sets of 20 Cads.
I am able to believe him as he is an avid Guard player himself.

Avid guard players can be mistaken, Deis. Always remember tha. But still, I think that from what we've heard already, 21 tanks does not sound unreasonable!

the no adviser rule would suck. Because then we could hide a commissar in a 10 man squad with a powerfist and he could not get singled out.

Well, from a Nidzilla spamming jammy bastard of a tyranid player, it would certainly suck. But from a Guardsman's perspective, this is truly excellent. Now, each squad can have the correct advisor for the job- ccw and pistol vets with 3 meltas and a powerfist/plasma armed sergeant can take a priest without me having to tie up my mortar-armed command squad with it.
GW DOES LOVE US!!!!!!
