Make sure it's subtle. He should have blue highlights and reflections, not blue hair.
Oh, and if you feel particularly brave, actually sculpt a hairstyle onto the bird. That would kick the ass of everyone who saw the thing from across the table.

I'd surrender to anyone with that hairstyle.

Hey man! Nice work. Any more soon? Oh and just cause, could you make a lieutenant based of me? Nothing to over the top, just a lasgun, chain sword and tartan pants or maybe even a kilt? Call him Dobson (my last name)

He needs to be named somehting like "Lt. Felix Steel" or "Maximus Stonecrusher'. You know, some corny 80's action hero name.
Although, I will admit, he does remind me slightly of Johnny Bravo from cartoon network for some odd reason.

Call him Lt Bravo.

Thanks loads guys! And so many of those names are awesome that I'm kind of flailing here. Lt. Bravo would indeed be pretty awesome ("Wanna see me come my hair really fast? Huh!"), but I'm not sure that I can resist the temptation of having a platoon led by Lt. Maximus Stonecrusher. Amazing. I've finished up my entry for 3ff3ct's competition, which I really want to post here, but I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to. So you'll have to wait til the end of the month, or whenever I next get something painted up! I've been given a peripheral attachment by the uni for the next few weeks (i.e. "Sod off to the arse end of nowhere for the next three weeks with no warning. Oh, and we won't pay for your travel or accomodation. Have fun!"), so progress is even slower than usual at the mo Thanks for staying with me though!

I'm amazed to say that I've actually found somewhere with phone reception out here in the sticks! I'm going to try to upload some (crappy iPhone pics of) character concepts I've done, and I'd love to know what you think of them. (seriously, please! It's so dull here!) I've been standing in a car park in the middle of a field in Scotland for half an hour to get these uploaded, so no saying I don't love you guys...

Thanks mjpayne ;D Hey everyone else! Hope you're all doing good I've got some very ( very!) early WIP shots of the HW team from the sketches above, and I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out! I really want a barrel strapped to the gunner's back as a kind of improvised ammo drum (hence his leaning forward under the weight), but I'm struggling to knock one together that doesn't look ridiculously oversized. Obviously the one in the tank kits is out as it's about twice the size of a guardsman. I'd really love any ideas you might have. Scarp

Spikes are always awesome! Criticism: I think the autogun arms are too low down, and I think the head is a bit small for the them, or maybe just the blu tac giving me wrong ideas . Great idea with the machinegun and hook foot! No good ideas for the barrel problem I'm afraid, maybe modifying the flamer or Vox backpacks? Edit: Have checked Verlinden yet? I found these, I'm sure they have more stuff.

Nice work on the heavy - Have you considered using the drum ammo barrels from the Ork Shoota (or maybe Slugga) guns? They might be hefty enough to look groovy as heavy weapon drums without being oversized.
Are the arms on the autogunner from forgeworld? They look rather nice... though I think Happyorange may be right - the shoulders might be a little low down.

Thanks a lot for the tips and the comments Happyorange and Gabriel! Thanks for the link, HO, that looks like an ace site! I've had a look around, and I'm seriously considering a whole bunch of there stuff - it looks like really detailed stowage for a 40k scale! I had a bash with an ork shoota barrel too Gabe, but I couldn't get it to work quite right. You did totally get me thinking about magazines though, and I've shaved down a cadian GL mag that seems like it might work really well, so thanks for that! You can't see too well in the pictures, but I'm sure all will become clear when I do a little more work on it You were both totally right, the arms were way too low (I'm gonna blame the blu tac ), and the head does seem way too small looking at it. Hopefully I've sorted it now with a few alterations! Oooh, and yeah, one of the arms on the autogun is from the FW renegade arms. The other is just a cadian one with the shoulderpad carved off! Do you think the scale looks a little more acceptable now? Obvs, the blu tac won't be permanent

I'm still alive! Last exam is tomorrow, then I plan to get some serious modelling in. Til then, here's a teaser, all GSed up and partially painted. Don't zoom in though, it's a terrible pic - you can't see any of the highlights or stubble or anything. Still, I think it gets the idea across I can still change stuff if you hate it! MrBojab - Thankyou! If you click the picture, it takes you to a page where you can zoom in loads

Heavy stubber is awesome, the ammo belt works really well! What are you going to use it as in game?

Very cool, the paint job came out really nice. The mohawk spikes are a little thin, but its not an easy look to pull off in game or in real life!

My only concern, seeing the painted model, is that I wonder if it should maybe have some more shells along the ammo belt? Just seems a little sparse at the moment. As for what to use it as in game - Heavy Bolter of course Dedrier - is that Bungle dancing in your profile pic?!

I don't know if its Bungle, or if it is just some crazed and malnourished circus bear.

Like always your model is cool and unique. Normally I'm not one that likes spiky mohawks, but you definitively make it look good. And I have to agree that the ammo belt does look a bit sparse. Maybe try adding more bullets but paint some of them silver too, so that it looks like he just got the right size rounds from where ever he could.

HappyOrange - Thankyou! I'm probs going to be using him more in necromunda (which I'm starting soon! ) than 40k, in which he's got a heavy stubber, frags, and +1T. If he needs to fill in for 40k though, he'll probs end up toting some kind of man-portable heavy bolter Dedrier - Thanks a lot! I know what you mean about the spikes, but tbh it looks ok at a gaming distance, and I can't really imagine how fiddly bulking out the spikes would be! And the bear in your avatar puts 'dancing bear's to shame! Gabe - Good idea! I'm chopping up some more plasticard rod straight after I type this Rarves - Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it! Nice idea on the ammo belt too, will deffo be using that. I'll be sure to get a pic up when I'm done. Prilladog - Cheers! I'm glad you like him! Not much progress today I'm afraid, but I just wanted to show something getting done to prove I'm not slacking off completely I've been working on a leader for my Necromunda gang (I talked my flatmates and my gf into playing!), and it's maybe the most ambitious GSing type thing I've done so far. He's got a shotgun and frag grenades, and I rolled INFILTRATION, so I wanted to make him look sneaky too. Once I've got a scenic base set up, he'll be peeking around a corner. The arms are currently blu-tacked on for ease of painting! (Apologies for the shoddy photos!) And here's another ganger in a VERY early stage of WIP. She'll be crouched behind a window, with a few empty magazines at her feet. Also proof that you shouldn't buy a new box set and a razor saw on the same day! I'll have fluff for the whole gang up pretty soon, but please please please could you let me know anything I could change - I'd love to get painting soon! ;D
