Also, in a double-posting fashion I think he says "Serge, I'm having problem with the 'don't shoot until you see the white of their eyes' bit on these tyranids..."

Cheers Westrider, glad to see you havent gone AWOL! I'm glad you like it - sorry bout the face. I was a little bit short of parts when I was knocking him together, and it was the only head I could find with a bandana No worries. I think there's only the one head with the bandanna over the top instead of just around like a headband anyhow. Regardless, it game out nice. Thanks again!

Thanks for the compliments guys, and glad you like it Stannarkvar ;D ReWolf - One day, one day, I'm going to paint a model without any mould lines at all, and meet your standards Can't believe I missed the one on his hand though, I thought I'd done pretty well! Next up is a non-roll-caller, my first bash at making my regiment a mixed one. Not sure what I reckon - the head seems a little small, and I think possibly due to my GS skills, looks a bit like a monkey. Ah well, live and learn... I'm still experimenting with bases - what d'you think of this style?

The head is a bit on the small side. But it doesn't look simian, so... not to bad there.
The base is cool, but it seems that all the awesome has been put into one spot instead of spread around.
I have few suggestions for female IG, but try to make the arms a bit thinner.
Also, maybe give her a carbine. [/joke]

That was a pretty zippy response, Req, thanks! I've put up a couple of pics from other angles too now. I was originally going to follow Trygon's guide to making female cadians, but then I decided that if I'm making a lot of these guys, I just don't have the time for such an ambitious conversion. I'll see about thinning down the arms on the next one though... Thanks for the base comments - I was thinking of her stepping around the edge of a ruined building, but I see what you mean. I might respread the debris if I get a chance

The Ministry is always watching.
I've read that guide, and I think it's a lot of work for something that will only be really appreciated in pictures, and not during a game. Sad as it is, if you want someone to notice that you have female IG, they need big boobs and long hair. Otherwise, you may end up having someone say, "Oh, you were playing with chicks? I didn't know."

I think you've made a great head (except the size ) and I'm impressed with your green stuff skill!

Hahaha, thanks SHG, butthe head's actually from Hasslefree Miniatures! You can buy blank heads from them and sculpt on the hair and ears The scale sems to be a little smaller, but I think it'll look better if I slap on a cadian helmet...

really nice face, and for the body it 's not a problem for me. I often work with women with undercloth bulletproof vest + heavy bulletproof vest added and a helmet and from a distance of 3 metters you wont see the difference with a man (maybe except from the fact they're most of time smaller than guys). I dont think that female guard should have long hairs, just not usefull to get hairs in front of eyes on a battlefield. Working on the face only to give it the "girly touch" is for me the best way to do the job. After this i agree that it wont be easily seen on the table that you're playin girls...

Yeah, I actually plan on doing nothing to indicate the gender on my guards and just sometimes randomly call soldiers "her" instead of "him", just to make a point, obviously =)

That's what I did. There are some girls with dog faces in my army. *Sigh* GW, if only you made a bitz pack of female heads... I wonder if they realize how many of those would get sold?

Mmmm, I thought of that, but there are loads of troops without helmets within the remnants, and I just wanted a few of them to be women so I can imply the rest Totally agree with you on the heads pack though - I think it would probably be one of their best selling blisters in the end! @elniko - Thank you so much for the kind words, and the advice too! I've heard that from a few people in the services, and i did NOT want the 'green stuffed metal boobs' look that some people seem to go for with their cadians The mixed unit is more to fit my fluff than for the tabletop anyway - no reason to exclude women in a band of survivors, right? ;D Possibly a sentinel next in the line, though after my exams on friday

Get your priorities straight, man! No exams, no studying. Those things are heresy. Unless you have an exam on the Uplifting Primer...

I feel incredibly unloved (again). T^T Do I know when you'll make me?? or do I have to wait for the rest of your army (feeling slightly bitter).

Hetlan, you only told me what you wanted on page six of the thread - I've got a fair few requests now... Besides, I tend to do stuff in a pretty random order anyway

Alright, this isn't quite finished, but this is the last I can do on it for about a week, so I figured I'd post anyway. This is my first attempt at a bunch of new techniques, including air brushing (turns out black was a really bad choice of primer : and using weathering powders. I've still got to make a GS strap for his lasgun (I'm out of gs!), magnetise the gun and matte spray the whole thing. These aren't the best pictures in the world, but it's after August in Scotland, so we won't be seeing the sun for another 6 months or so What do you think? Also, has anyone got any experience using GW's purity seal? I tested it on one of my worst painted guard (Oldman gladly stepped up for the job) and it frosted the crap out of him. Am i doing something wrong?

Before: After: Bloody hell you've come a long way. You are to be congratulated . This new sentinel looks bloody awesome. As for the purity seal, all I've heard is that it takes a LOT of shaking, conditions have to be perfect, and you do it in really light coats... But Christ, that sentinel looks good =X

Thanks so much ReWolf! That means loads coming from you! And arg, that sentinel. It was the first thing I ever painted way back when in March - I thought I'd buried it in the archives!
Cheers again though! It's advice from you guys that helps me improve ;D

That walker kicks serious ass, the posing, the painting, and most of all, the after effects. Smashing!

You need to start with some new techniques. Blending and whatnot (Esp. now you have that tub for a wet palette )

The sentinel looks so good. Great detail, I can actually imagine what Ulrich really looks like. Hope he's happy.
I'd have gone for a desert colour scheme like that myself if I'd have not decided for urban. But the base really makes it stand out. It really does. The random details make it so realistic.
Splendid effort Sir !!!

Thanks so much guys! You're making me blush Working on some more veterans at the moment, but I think I'll knock up your sentinel pretty soon Redcuffs - It was almost going to be this one, but I couldn't find a way to fit Duski on the base without cluttering the thing. I'll make sure I do her justice if I can though

I agree with everyone, that Sentinel is great! Your painting has really improved! I use Purity Seal sometimes, and the only time it works for me is if it's about 15 C and there's high pressure, which judging by the weather we're having in the UK, isn't going to be soon. Even then, the seal can still makes it slightly 'dusty' sometimes. Oh and always use very thin coats! If you're not sure whether you've done a spot yet, leave it until the other bits are dry so you don't over do it. I learned that hard way. *sighs and looks at the multiple Frosty the Snowmans adorning his painting station*
