OMFG your right.. oh i am going to kill my club... sniper did indeed just get better.. considering that my 5 ratlings were able to pin sm scouts for 3 out of 6 turns in my last game.. he was beyond pissed at that .. and they were even in a building with a damn 4+ invul save..
"whats that commander? you want us to use the sniper rifles again? on the space marines? are you sure? ok then.. oh god they are hiding like little girls..hahahahahahahaha look at them hide.. pew pew.. i shoot you lol hahahahahaaaaa"
ok special weapon sqauds with 3 snipers each coming right up.. time to convert guardsmen again..

grisnik..i dont think SW squads are the way forward... (IMO). BUT light infantry doctrine so a sniper for 5pts in each squad (rather than 10pts in a SW).
then employ schaeffer and his last chancers where (althought each model costs 11pts) they have better stats, and you can have a whole squad of purely snipers (with maybe a plasma gun jus in case big scary people get to close..)

yeah but i like to have ML in my guards units.. considering that they are stationary units usually.. so the 2 units of 3 snipers are the way to go for me.. though i will see about throwing them into regualr squads as well later on.. time to convert a ton of snipers i guess..

I take ratlings every chance I get. I either take 2 squads of 6 or 1 full squad of 10. ratlings are cheap for what they do. 36" death to non-fearless squads. I love making Tau run off the field! Better than Stormtroopers if you keep them back. I never infiltrate them more than 15" from my table edge because of their range. I try to stick them where they have alot of shooting lanes.

saw the other post about elite troops post.. sucks that u cannot have more than one unit of ratlings.. but there is a reason for it.. they are way too powerful for how little points they are.. just take a vindicare assassin or more snipers with the light infantry rule as well...

you can only have a vindicare if you have an inquistor or inq lord...and since your only allowed 1 elite choice from DH as allies..it has to be an inq lord. which sucks.
and i wish i could use the orbital strike in my IG force! it sucks i cant really.

the inq lord is a good choice to take regardless if you can take the vindicare as well.. the vindicare would just be the icing on the cake there i take the inq lord anyways as an ally.. so i have no probs taking the vindicare assassin.. besides.. the lord gives that extra punch needed to an IG army.. surprise many a space marine player with them.. more so if u fit them into a normal looking chimera then just mix up the chimeras while running them up the field.. and pop out comes the lord, his ret, and some more nasty surprises.. oh and the vindicare kills those nasty characters that can cause u to have issues..

yup....deamon princes and greater deamons!
i NEED another chimera or 2 for my army. 1 for the inq lord. and 1 for my ogryns.
but we're going a little off topic here..
i found out about 10minutes ago that i am infact NOT playing an eldar army...but a khorne army...emperor help me! he's the only person in our "club" that i havnt beaten! so lets hope my 5 ratlings, 3 snipers split between squads and my vindicare can do some damage!

your ratlings are toast mate.. versus ld 10, fearless, frenzy, berzerkers... good luck on them rolling 11s to pin.. and their 3+ armor saves.. load up on plasmas instead od snipers.. u will do more damage and have a chance to kill them at least.. use the ratlings to hit the lords or the deamons.. better chance of taking them out..
best of luck with ur match mate..

i won. the ratlings wer a god send as he ignored them mainly. (he killed 2)
i took out 4 berzerkers, and 2 terminators. which i think is pretty good.
although sniper of the match has to go to my vindicare!

question, if you do 2 wounds from a squad with sniper rifles is that 1 or 2 pinning checks? 1 right? so light infantry might have an advantage in that there's only 1 rifle per squad so potentially more pinning checks since it's multiple units firing at the enemy so multiple pinning checks for 'a model removed as a casualty.'

correct turtleboy.
but i HATE fearless troops 'cos they automatically pass pinning checks.
but i've got to play an eldar player soon, which are not fearless so hopefully cause some havoc there.

well is fearless auto pass pinning.. then count all of chaos armies out of that mix then.. add one mark and they become fearless.. so snipers versus them are completely useless then.. god i love my slannesh force

they still work. jus without the pinning.
hitting on 2+ regardless, and wounding on 4+ regardless is still lethal against deamon princes etc!

2+ armor save.. bionics.. too many chances to save versus it.. would rather hit it with a lascannon, or ordinance.. etc.. something bigger than a sniper rifle

still, vs a lasgun, it's an upgrade so even if you just go for the heavy weapon squads/line squads with no heavy weapons type army, then you could do light infantry and take sniper rifles and keep the theme and get the benefit as well.

To many replies... I can't pull myself together and read them all... =) I use sniper rifles i special weapon squad. They are excellent to kill sentries with... With all sentries gone, just walk right upp to that tank with your melta. By the way... Don't forget to put all those flamers next to that bunker and trenchers...

I just use ratlings, they are cheaper and you can just use the cadian snipers to represent them.

I've always been tempted to use ratlings, but i don't have enough doctrine points prefering to use Special Weapons Squads instead, 1 squad snipers, 1 squad demo charge.

My 10 Ratlings took down a Carifex last night in 2 turns. Almost killed it on the first turn. Left 1 wound on it and it regenerated 1 wound. The next second turn I hit it 6 more times and it failed 2 wounds and died. The Ratlings have been promoted in my IG army!

where ever possible i take ratlings.. they are the glue that holds my tactics together.. even if all they are to become is a bait tactic to get more enemies within rapid fire and heavy weapon range
