ratlings sound pretty awesome. I have one sniper in my army and last battle he got a kill a round for the first half of the fight - it was pretty awesome, felt like something right out of a novel, how it should be I am kinda picking up this 'I love hellhounds, oh me too, oh me three, yeah hellhounds rock, hellhounds are the best now!' kind of vibe about ratlings. now that I've picked up a hellhound to see what all the raving was about, I think I may have to pick up some more cadian snipers to use as ratling stand-ins and give them a go too

i've never actualy played snipers but what i suppose is move after every shot and use terrain to evade the enemy and avoid CC.

moving after every shot is a good real world strategy but in 40k not so much. you want the snipers firing every round they can and since the rifles are 'heavy' then if you move you can kiss that rounds shooting goodbye

i suppose if u were looking for snipers and wanted to add a personalised unit of hunter kindred of kroot, shove them in a peice of woods terrain or even behind and for 8 pts and i think it would be 5+ or 4+ armour save with the extra +1 for been skilled jungle fighters... they can infiltrate... so make use of distracting your opponent or generally annoy him by pinning, its not something ive tried but i would like too... but they count as a heavy weapons choice : / so that be no good i wouldnt know i use cadian snipers as ratlings alongside the vindicare and other infiltration support such as storm troopers and even deep striking units using the cover of infiltrators worx well. other than anything general knowledge about snipers i dont know much else.

strange my opponents never have gone after my ratlings. sure they may throw a stray lascannon shot their way but theres not likly to hit due to a 3+ cover save.
although my guard with longlases have reacked an impressive tally of rhinos and marines along with two tyrants and a wraithlord.
never underestimate a hit regardless of toughness on a 4+

Only problem with Ratlings is their useless leadership! I usually place them behind the heavy weapon command squad with a standard where that 36" range comes in handy for detterance - otherwise they have a habit of breaking and lying low... Still not sooo bad.
