You could also have Schaffer and Cage operating on their own, and have up to three squads of between 1 and 20 (depending on how many guys and how you divide them) operating on their own. Could make for some hot killage, however, the Last Chancers are BS 4, so I'd put that into a Plasma Gun or a Heavy Weapon team and take advantage of that increased BS with no target priority issues, personally.

Hobbits all the way for snipers. I converted 3 human snipers for a special weapon team and found they just didn't do enough, mine didn't anyway, was fun to do, and they look cool, so maybe I'll try the light infantry idea. Where as my hobbits have killed Wraithlords. 55 points versus the 100+ for a wraithlord. Bargin. I want another 5 . Snipers are deffo worth it for taking out monsterous creatures. That is pretty much the only role I use them for.

Use them againest units that have low leadership and can be pinned.. easy targets, and can hold people from firing heavy weapons or advancing when they shouldnt be Still sacrificing them atm though.. pretty funny considering that my opponents are trying so hard to kill them cause if they dont then they just rain havoc upon their armies.. picking out whatever is able to be pinned and holding it there for barrage and rapid firing.. that or assualting them and being within rapid firing range with better troops good times

Haha... Ratling bait. I thought the only way you could use those two words together was an Ogryn fishing competition.
Sounds intelligent however, i'll give it a run.

My idea ( since I havent played with them yet) to avoid sniper fire, is to keep all my men in chimeras until I get close to disembark, fire assualt weapons, and then assualt

Theyre not too bad, cheap really, plus all my men are Stormtroopers... I will have 20 Stormies that arent in chimeras, but theyre deepstriking

snipers are my favorite unit in 40k, as i also play alaitoc eldar. nothing can stand up to 10 rangers and 5 pathfinders; they cut through heavy armor like a knife through butter. and since most people play either marines or chaos, i dominate when i play at games workshop. and once the enemy gets close, howling banshees are there to chop them up. 18 attacks of first strike power weapons...gotta love it.

As for chimera rush, you put your self at a lot of risk even in the chimeras. If one of those bastards goes up in smoke you could still loose a lot of men and lets all remmember that a chimera has a side armor of 10. Even if all of the men survive an vehicle destroyed, they are now entangled and pinned with no test I take my chances with the snipers over a moving coffin.

Anyways... Snipers are really good to have when you can get them in a tower or some sort of cover, give em' carapace armor, chameoline netting and then put them in cover, wouldnt that mean a 2+ armor save on something that almost kills instantly?

you know you can't pick out what specific model you're shooting at with sniper rifles correct? only the assassin sniper dude can pick the specific model he's shooting. just sounded like you're describing picking out which model you target by the 'mainly (they kill) officers or spec/hvy wpns' bit Larkin, as part of Gaunts ghosts, can too!!

Snipers are a viable option. Ratlings are good but they require you to have line of sight. If you are looking for pinning go with mortars. 80 points gets you 3 mortars that are hidden from most fire and can get you more then the 6-7 saves on average that you would get from 10 ratlings.

I'd field ratlings agenst high str monsters such as carni's because no matter what...u stiwound on a 4+....real gud bargain because u have a higher chance of the carni failing his armour saves with a bunch of well put sniper rounds...i field my ratlings in maximum capacity (10) but a bit xpensive ....still has advantage in cover as well as infiltration!

In my expierence ratlings rock, they can take down any wraithlord, deamon or souped up special character with ease. Their improved cover save is really great, especially when you plunk them in a bunker with 2+ saves.

Yep, I love my hobbits, would like anohter 5 really, but want different models. Have to have a look for some real FB hobbits and see if they are convertible. Wraith lords, and monsterous creatures drop b4 em, and I've even been finding them useful against light vehicles like war walkers and jet bikes .

yeah...i've seen carnifex's take several wounds from one round of shooting of a full ratling's squad...but i guess u can say his saving wasn't too good either. ratlings are effective in 10 man squads...tho they do cost quite the points

they can be in your special weapons sqaud, which is part of you command, but not directly in your command squad, or in platoon command squads.
