This thread has given me a new respect for Orks. Although, if I were to begin an Ork project I would probably focus a little more on a feral Ork tribe, something abit more natural with Squigs, perhaps a Squiggoth and warthogs, stuff like that.

Fantastic! How that you did the metal rust? Which bit? The chips? The 'rusty' metal? Or the bit that is painted and has become rusty over the top? Yeah, there is quite a bit of rust on there come to think about it... Feral Orks are definately cool too, although I liked the imagery of clanking robots emerging from out of the scrap beltching out smoke and shouging 'WAAAAGH!' in a metallicy voice through speakers Feral Orks would be great for conversions too, you could have Boar Boys instead of Bikers, Dinosaurs with guns on instead of tanks or dreads.... I'm going to stop now, I've already got more than enough Orks to be getting on with, without starting something else! Thanks for the comments guys, it means a lot to me!

honestly that is a really good model, do you plan to get more?? Sorry, I missed this! Yeah, I wouldn't mind a few more and maybe running them as Mega Armoured Nobs or something. I'd obviously convert the bejesus out of them though. A few with circular saws, drill and maybe tracks would be cool, as well as converted grot controllers/drivers. The armour. Brown with metallic chips. It was based with Chaos Black, stippled with Scorched Earth (or Vallejo Charred Brown, they're both similar and I can't remember which) and then stippled either Bestial brown for an orange rust or Dark Flesh for a redder rust. A couple of patches got some Blazing Orange stippled on to make it even more orange. I use some old drybrush bushes for stippling as I find the stippling brish too harsh. I also take a bit of paint off the brush before I stipple too, as it's easier to add more than take it off! They were then edged with Boltgun Metal, Chainmail or a mixture of both. A few areas were washed with any/all of the above in a random manner to make it look more aged and natural (just not red on the orange and visa versa). I think I might have re-edged the metal plates in places for a 'freshy scratched' look. P.s. a group shot of the army please. I'll see what I can do, and I'll also put out the stuff that needs doing as a means to motivate myself!

Thanks! Unfortunately I haven't got enough room at the moment for an army shot (a very messy house!), although I did do a group shot of the Boyz to tide you over Enjoy!

Finished off my other two Deffkoptas, although I've seen a few bits I've missed in the pictures..... I converted two of them to add a bit of variance (I've got enough Deffkoptas for a couple of Skwadrons.... ). One got a head swap with a metal tank hunter head I had lying around, and a big buzz saw made from a Killa Kan arm. It's attatched using magnets, so I can pack it nicely or leave it off in lower points games. I need to paint a couple of buttons though.... He also got a special base too, due to how low his buzzsaw hangs. Here's all the bits I stuck on it ;D The other had quite a bit of fiddly bits swapping. He also got a tank hunter head, and a Power Klaw, also magnetized. This left me with a handlebars problem, so I nicked some from the Ork Bikers set, and swapped the other arm too so it didn't look too wierd. This needed greenstuffing, which I cleverly hid with a bit of painted on shading I have missed off the skin highlights though

DAMN! Those bases are too good, They really finish off the models quite well. Did you base the bases in one colour then add the detail and brighter colours?? Looking forward to full army shots Major Downer

Pretty much, I did them a long long time ago, so they look a bit bland next to the newer ones. I'm sure it'll work out fine though Thanks for the feedback!

Those scrap bases are just brilliant, 3ff3ct. Really inspiring idea. Thanks! Since I have another 12 Deffkoptas (yeah, that's right, 3 skwadrons ;D) I think I'll do some resin flying bases to finish them off. For the amount of time it took to build just the one, it'd save me a day or two in the long run! I still have lots of things that are half done to finish first though, such as the second squad of Kans and a Deff (Daddy) Dread

Nice work. I've been working on Deff Koptas this week too. I really like the blue light on the rota base. I'vee just got minee painted gold but I might change that now.
The black reach koptas are pretty good but do you think you'll be tempted to get a kopta box set if GW release one?

I figured that they'd need headlights for night ops Unless the GW Kopta kit is amazingly amazing then I'll probably give it a miss, as I have all the bits I need for Konvertin' the others up, apart from Big Bombs. No point in spending extra money when I can have more fun building my own! I wil, however, happily eat my words if they are stunning

Will they all have the rokkit launcha set-up, or will some bring da dakka?

I think most will be getting rokkits, as they're good on heavy infantry and anything that can be taken out with a shoota can be pulled to pieces in combat anyway. Especially when the Kans and Daddy Dread are finished

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I've been busy clearing my painting area of half-finished models! Here's the second mob of Kans! They were bought as 'refurbs' on ebay, so as a result the arms aren't magnetised like the others, although I did have fun Kustomizin' them to represent the rokkits. The first one, which I've nicknamed 'Drillbit'. Having seen the macro pictures, I think there's a few areas that could do with tidying up, such as the power cables. The second Kan, 'Rokkit Pod', I had fun doing some OSL effects, although I might re-do the front light on the rokkit pod as it doesn't seem as 'glowy' as the others. There's close-ups too so you can see how I did the OSL effect, although it does look very stripy in the pictures it is much smoother in real life! The third Kan, 'Klawz', I think is the most boring, as I didn't get to add too much in the form of extra wierd bits, and as a result it looks pretty standard. It did however originally have Shootas, which I sawed off and added two rokkits instead, which were cut down from hunter-killer missiles. I covered the ejection ports with the check-plate plasticard so it wasn't as obviously an old shoota. Very Orky, just stick it on! So that is now two out of a potential three mobs done! Yay! The next lot I intend to go all-out with Konvertin', possibly with Traks or wheels, should-mounted Rokkits, Kustom targeters... ;D I also finished off Daddy Dread while I was at it. I am more than happy with how he turned out! I think my favourite bit is the vert de gris on the faceplate, as it really contrasts with the red/orange OSL and makes it pop. Needless to say Charlie loves the amount of 'Robots' that are now available to play with, and has enjoyed playing with Daddy Robot and the Baby Robots, going to Robot School and eating Tanks for their tea ;D Hopefully they'll chew through a similar amout of armour on the battlefield!

I have a band of minstrel servitors that follow me, a bit like a grimdark steampunk version of Monty Python's Holy Grail Thanks Kreigeirk Wow... The pictures are a bit crappy too, rather grey and drizzly today in Cheshireland. Yes, I think the Greenskins will be coming along to the next meet-up I attend, so hopefully you'll be there to oggle them!
