I am very impressed by how much patience you have. I will get through painting one, maybe two guardsmen as best I can, then after that my painting goes right out the window.
Bravo!

Hey everyone, I guess I'm back on track since I painted for an hour or two tonight. So here is what I manage to progress in that time. Missle Launcher Team Loader..... By daonemdt at 2011-11-14 Another Kasrkin Sgt. I've begun to work on .... By daonemdt at 2011-11-14 By daonemdt at 2011-11-14 Started working on a Old School Hellhound as well but I'll put up the pics after I do some more work to it.....by the way, is it just me but do the new hellhounds look far too high tech, low drag than they ought to be for the Imperial Guard? I'm still preferring the exposed petrolium tank look. Has that Dangerous look to it..... ;D Thanks for looking.

Hey everyone, due to a recent spike in inspiration lately( cosmic-like inspiration seemingly ;D) I've decide on doing my own diorama/army on parade type display and have gotten to work on it immediately . It'll be based off my Command squad I had entered at a FLGS months back.I don't expect this to be done any sooner than my actual army but it keeps me rolling in either direction...I'm doing the math to try and fit my command squad, at least 3 infantry squads, 2-3 HW teams, and a couple dynamic scenes which may or may not include guardsman(s) charging and overcoming black legion csm(fatalistically of course, but a win is a win especially if its for the Emperor!) and I know I just gotta come up with a way of showing some Kasrkin doing a door breach on some renegades. Here are some mock up pics By daonemdt at 2011-11-16 Here's where I'm gonna focus the direction coming from this wrecked chapel By daonemdt at 2011-11-16 By daonemdt at 2011-11-16 By daonemdt at 2011-11-16 I'm gonna plan that Kasrkin Door Breach on the bottom SW or SE sides on the second floor of the building thats gonna go there. Now I gotta get back to painting my actual army and that hellhound that need some painting or else I'll have nothing to put on this board . Thanks for looking

At the moment I find it hard to imagine, although you clearly have a plan and know what you're doing, so Ill trust that it will look as good as your army!

Hey everyone heres another quick update on my army so far. Up first is a HW missle launcher team. By daonemdt at 2011-11-17 By daonemdt at 2011-11-17 By daonemdt at 2011-11-17 And my old school hellhound which I just realized I don't have a turret for. By daonemdt at 2011-11-17 Still plan on adding some final details to the hw team and I hope ebay has an oop hellhound turret blister pack. Tonight I'll be going the a hobby store to get some balsa wood, sculpting foam and terrain putty to begin on the army display. Thanks for looking.

Try and get one of the new Chimera flame turrets, they're pretty similar The only criticism I can make is: 1)Tidy up the wash 'tide mark' on your base rim 2)Try drybrushing a highlight in the hellhound 3)Get some wash on those tracks, they look a bit 'new' for my liking Great work!

Looking really good I agree with 3ff3ct with those crits. Although I'm sure you wouldn't leave the track unwashed anyway Can't wait to see the board a bit more.

Hey everyone. I got a slight update on my board that I've decided to do lately. Here are some pics so far of what I've managed to get done.... Here's a ruin I made using the old cadian gothic ruins set.... By daonemdt at 2011-11-19 I'm using 1/8 inch thick basswood to provide a surface from which I can cut base shaped slots so the bases appear flushed with the surrounding environment.... By daonemdt at 2011-11-19 Here is again an overall look of the battlefield to come. By daonemdt at 2011-11-19 Where some guys will advance cautiously through a alley.... By daonemdt at 2011-11-19 Another angel of the scene, on your right is where I'm working on fitting that Kasrkin door Breach scene into the balcony where I plan on putting a chaos renegade heavy stubber team .. By daonemdt at 2011-11-19 Still going to have to get more basswood so I can level the board completely for the bases. Thinking about putting either a hellhound or a chimera dismounting troops onto the board but I don't think that forge world still sells that chimera interior kit anymore. Lemme know what you guys think so far. Thanks for looking. P.s. @ Cosmic and 3ffect :Thanks for the comments and motivation, it'll keep me on my toes to not over look the details. Thanks again.

How do you make your painting so smooth? (and that was a question, not just a compliment)

Now it makes a bit more sense to me This is going to rock! My only concern is that it will be very obvious where the wood has gone, are you planning on adding putty or similar to smooth it out? No worries on the feedback, most of the stuff I've learnt has come from other people suggesting stuff. If it helps or makes you think a bit more about how you do things then it's all good

Hey everyone, I'd like to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving. I have a quick lil' update here for you guys. Up first is a one of my power weapon Sgt. that is complete except for the base which I'll take care of when basing the rest of that diorama. By daonemdt at 2011-11-24 Here's some progress pics on my hellhound I got going.... By daonemdt at 2011-11-24 By daonemdt at 2011-11-24 The Return of my Bum....errr, Blood Angels! (Wip) By daonemdt at 2011-11-24 By daonemdt at 2011-11-24 Thats it for the WIP pics DadCRO: Thanks for comment, I'm pretty meticulious when it comes to thinning my paints. For starters I also water down my paints at least 1 part water to 2 parts paint (more often leaning towards 1.5 parts to 2 parts paint).I also always shake my paint pot for at least 30 seconds before painting to make sure the pigment is evenly distributed. As for the application of the paint from brush to model. I always tighten up the bristles. I dip the brush no further that half way up the bristles (I mainly use the detail and fine detail brush). I Then wipe it one time (just enough to get off the excess) on some absorbent paper towel. When I apply the brush to the model I always try to paint with the brush tip pointed perpendicular to the surface. I try to apply next to no pressure and rather let the paint flow and pool on to the surface( if the bristles are splaying then there is too much pressure being applied) and last but not least I paint from the wrist! Wheeww......(takes in deep breath) I hope that is understandable and more importantly helps. 3ff3ct: Completely understood , as for wood and on the plastic I'm in the process of trying to blend it in using some Vallejo putty in the seams wait till it dries and maybe then chip the edges enough so that it blends in more seamlessly. I hope it works but I kinda worry since the vallejo putty is something like stucco in texture. By daonemdt at 2011-11-24

I also prefer the old hellhound model. You painting is so crisp and awesome, how long do you spend on a guardsman?

I must say these are lovely, but so far my favorite model has to be the standard bearer . The pose, equipment and head option matched with your wonderful painting skill sold it for me.

Woah, good start on the Marine! I'm interested to see how it turns out, the last one I did was the captain from Space Hlk, who ended up a bit too orange Could you not get hold of some textured spray? I know GW used to do one, it was awesome, although I have no idea where to get if from now. This would give the whole surface that 'gritty' feel rather than the putty standing out.

Hey everyone, hope all of you are dealing well with your food hangovers I know I'm trying. Thanks for the comments armstrong and krieger. Empirespy: Thanks for the comment, I typically spend about 50 minutes painting a standard guardsman but I don't often get to spend more than an hour of straight painting, so all in all it is 50 min of paint time (excluding priming or trimming) that is spread over 2-3 days on average per guardsman. 3ff3ct: That is a great idea, I looked on the GW site but they seem to have discontinued it. I'll try looking on ebay. That would be great for texturing floor surfaces since I was thinking of trying to sprinkle sand, dirt rubble over the pave surfaces but that would be a pain in the rear with glue. Red has always been a challenge for me I'm thinking of going off a suggestion from that space hulk white dwarf issue which suggested using a "thin" layer of watered down Ball Red over armour plates after all the other painting is done but I never liked using washes other than for shading and I worry about the consistency. Nothing worse that painting a whole model just to ruin it with a hit or miss application of wash. Its hard highlighting straight blood red with out making it look somewhat orange from what I see. Thanks for that rough coat suggestion again gonna save me lots of thinking.
