I've painted up another model recently... this time its my Lord Commissar Schlosser model made from finecast. This model was not only easy to put together, it painted great too. Here is the model before painting... And here is the finished model. I did paint the base black after these pictures were taken. Comments are both welcome and appreciated.

Wow, the astropath looks really good. I wouldn't mind a few more bits on him to make him look more "Imperial guard-y". A purity seal, some sort of insignia or an Aquila would really look good.

Hmmm... that's a good idea. I think I can scrap off some from a Las gun. Sometimes it's the simplest things that inspire great ideas. Today, I was going to hang some Christmas lights outside on my house, when several bulbs fell out. When I started to replace the bulbs, I found these: It gave me an idea. I felt like my Plasma Guns needed something to make them different. I have a lot of older models, and none of them had a power pack. To fix that, I took a Vox Caster, cut off the antennae, and flipped it upside down. Voila! Power pack. Then I added these transistors to the top, and painted. Then I realized: I need power cables. To make those, I just used a coated paperclip, and bent it into shape. I drilled a hole into the power pack, and glued into place. I love the look, but the bright red really draws your eyes to the cable instead of the model. I am thinking I will need to paint it, or dull it down somehow. All told, this took maybe a half hour to convert and paint. I added black and yellow warnings to the power packs because they get hot and explode. Have to warn everyone, don't ya know. Tell me what you think!

Awesomeness! In my book, though, plasma guns don't need power packs.

Those are fuses not transistors.

When I started to replace the bulbs, I found these: I can pick those fuses up from a local hardware store, in different sizes. This as well as the 'Pimp your lasgun' mods are going on all my vets!

An amazing idea! I can see these popping up all over! DadCRO: I always thought that too, although the FW ones come with a power pack and cables and such. Maybe they're a beefed up version? Sounds dangerous to me.....

Thanks for the comments everyone. It was one of the "Oh, damn... that's so SIMPLE" moments that just worked out. Of course, if I ever run out of fuses, I'll have to buy more lights.
Speaking of the power cables, if you look at the pic of three with their back to you, the ones on either end have a cable already.
But, I have to admit, I did this because in a recent tournament, I got a '0' on conversions as part of my paint score. Granted, I should be honored that my conversions were good enough not to be noticed, but it did sting a little. Hopefully, these will be noticed for the next tournament.

Point them out next time! The best conversions always look unconverted in my opinion, it shows that you have clearly done a great job Stoopid tourney players.... They were probably just jealous....

Well, thanks for the suggestion. I added an Aquila, and suddenly I had to finish the model. I blame you sir! I've finished painting my Astropath Conversion. He was staring at me, wanting to know when I would finish him, and I'm like.... well, OKAY. So here is Astropath Lucius, direct from the Warp. Now, I really should be painting my models I'll be bringing to the Dark Star GT...

Almost a year ago, I received a large amount of tanks and troops from my birthday. Amongst those troops were a Catachan Platoon Command squad, two troop squads, and a Heavy Weapons Team. Then I got another Catachan squad in a trade. I also have Catachan Snipers in my Ratlings. One of the Catachans can be seen with a plasma rifle. Due to this, I've changed the name of the army to reflect the combination of the two distant cousins armies to the The Cadian 228th / 1971st Catachan Rifles. This is my Catachan First Squad, with a Sargent that has a Powerweapon, las pistol and a Plasma gun. To keep the army the same tone, I painted their fatigues the same shadow grey all of my line troopers, with white tank tops and/or t-shirts. My view is that the Catachans don't care much for protocol or dress regulations, and are a bit sloppy dressers. Here is the Sargent. I converted him by doing a quick and dirty weapon swap with his Bolt gun and giving him a las pistol, and a holster. And of course, the plasma gunner with the converted back-pack, posted earlier.

Looks good.. But why does a chained guy have a knife and a pistol..? @ Karsimirova: Because! And also, he is now WYSIWYG. And chains look cool. Yeah, that's it... -------------------------------- Here are some more of my Catachans, a Veteran Squad with triple melta, and demolitions. They are painted in the olive fatigues of all of my veterans, with black tank tops instead of white. This is to do with my penal legion, which also had a mixture of uniforms and white/black tank tops. Here is a close-up of the melta gunners. I color-coded their bandana to my dice for some reason... Here is the Sargent. Almost all of my Cadian Sargents have a white stripe on their helmet for easy identification when charging the enemy; I gave this sarge a white bandana much for the same reason. (I really should go back to the Catachan First Squad and do the same to that one as well...) I used a rocket loader for demolitions. And finally, a closeer look at a random squadmate. Please feel free to comment on any part of my army. I'd really appreciate feedback.

Nice Astropath man, glad you liked my suggestion. The aquila on the chest is really subtle but gives him a nice Imperial vibe. I would have put the gun on the front part of his body though, perhaps as a cross-draw but that's just my preferences. Really nice work on those Catachans. I love it that they get the same uniforms as the Cadians, but less of them. I might just have to steal that idea if you don't mind.

I love seeing old metal Catachans painted so nicely... The idea of coding the melta gunner's bandanas to your dice colors is also quite cool!

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Its appreciated. My next posts will be attached heavy weapons teams to various squads, and some chimeras. These will be posted in a couple weeks, I think.

I finished the attached Autocannon Heavy Weapons Team for the Catachan First Squad, and I really, really like it. I added some small touches, like extra ammo cases, some lasgun cartridges in their leather cases, and leaned up two lasguns against the sandbags. By the way, the sandbags are part of the Dungeon Acessories Set from Dwarven Forge. It even comes painted! I gave it a wash and drybrushed it to match the other more common sandbag. Here are the pics: Comments appreciated. ~ Pax

A lieutenant I know of would curse them out for not staying low. Also for stacking the sandbags so high that you can't fire to the left. A gamer that is me thinks it's awesome. How about a grey or brown wash over the pebbles though? They look a bit "clean" if you know what I mean.

As for a wash, I'll do an experiment, but most likely not. a: My entire army is based like this, and to wash everyone will take quite awhile, and b: those "pebbles" are kitty litter, and may distintegrate, I'll have to do some experiments.

I've been working on this squad for months, ever since I finished my first Rough Rider (a RR on a motorcycle, only one completed and painted so far). With every Space Marine Scout, you get shotguns. We can upgrade our Vet Squads to Shotguns, but other than forgeworld, there are no models for it. While the shotguns on the Space Marine Scout Bikes are alright, the best one I found was off of the regular Space Marine Scout sprue. Cut where the pistol stock meets the reciever and make a straight north/south cut. On a Lasgun, shave off he small bits on its reciever, and then cut right behind where the clip and the trigger guard meet. Glue or use plastic cement the lasgun stock and the shot gun reciever, then find an arm that will match where the space marine hand is. I also shaved off the rib on top of the gun, it looked to bulky for me. Here is a shot of the group altogether. Since the Bike Scouts guns came with straps, I added plasti-card straps to any shotgun that didn't have one, and made shotgun shells to add to the straps. This is the Sargent with two of the Vets. He is armed with a Powerfist since that will provide more "punch" in assault. Three more Vets with Shotguns. The one on the right, I am considering fixing his pistol stock to be more in line with everyone's rifle stocks, but that conversion looks difficult. The last four Vets. The one that has paint on him is carrying a demo charge, should I feel they would need that option. I'm looking forward to painting these guys.
