Three more Vets with Shotguns. The one on the right, I am considering fixing his pistol stock to be more in line with everyone's rifle stocks, but that conversion looks difficult. Left? The conversions look great. Great idea and I love the shells on the straps.

I now have a pair of Hydras that I have added to my army. Click the link in red to see the build process. Here is a picture of the Hydras, just for completion sake in this blog.

Looking good I love how the patches of colour break up the grey.

Really interesting concept, not to my personal taste but they're looking really nice!
Are you going to weather them?

Thanks, Cosmic!
I will, down the line. Since I have made a personal decision to keep these now (I'm just going to pay my friend bit by bit), there are some additions I need to make. Add rivets to the top and back, maybe a unit number on the back somewhere.
I'm going to wait until I have other tanks painted first. I'll be going to the Dark Star GT in St. Paul MN in Feb and these are ready now, I have other units I need to update/decal/finish details on.

I will be going to the Dark Star Grand Tournament in St. Paul, MN next month, and part of that tournament is having a display board. The tournament orgnizers are having a "primer" tournament on 01/14/2011, and I am hoping to participate. Its a free tournament, but has the same rules as Dark Star, including, you guessed it... a display board. So, here it is. I used a cork message board with a black border, and sprayed the cork grey as an underbase. Then I based the whole board with kitty litter, and blocked out where I was going to place my tanks and troops, and marked them with stick pins. I then added my twine weeds where the stick pins were, and thus gave it an appearence of "randomly" placed weeds. I also added rocks in open spaces, and used epoxy to stick them to the board, and added more weeds. Here is my army on the board, and I really like the look. My bases of my troops compliment the board nicely. Simple. and elegant, I feel. Here are some additional pictures... The final touch will be to add a sign with my name, and my army's name. But that will have to be for the actual tournament. Comment appreciated please! The more the merrier...

Looks really good! Maybe a bit crowded, but it's the imperial guard and a the display bord! I would consider removing the stone in the right corner in front of the tank, as it looks like a big hindrance if the tank would move forward. But else, really nice!

Thanks everyone! @ Gerner: No can do, its held down with epoxy. Its there now, and forever. The tank would just go around anway. Think of it as a giant granite boulder that is imbedded in the ground. A quick update: a Meltagun veteran I just made, something quick and dirty. Probably need to add a bit of greenstuff at the right wrist to smooth out the pinning I had to do to keep the gun secure. He is replacing a 3rd edition metal cadian I had used as a placeholder in one of my veteran squads.

I am finding this to be very very cool... I've added a name plate to my display board. This turned out better than I thought.

Here are some work in progress pictures of some vehicles that I am working on, as I have a tournament in two weeks. Had to add to the motor pool! First up, working on a third Hydra to round out the Squadron. This makes me happy, as I much prefer three to two Hydras as a personal choice. The wheels will be attached after they and the tank has been painted. Missing one headlight... will fix that once I get another vox caster. Head on view, showing the commander of the squadron, possibly pointing out a target to somebody. Its an older model, one I have not seen before. He came with my massive birthday gift last year. Finally, Colossus artillery. The siege guns are from Armorcast, and cost $9 each. I had to cut down the sides to fit in the Griffon metal platforms. They guns just slide into place, no need for magnets. Of course, why have one, when you can have two? I'll be pairing these two with a Griffon to take advantage of the Griffon's re-roll scatter.

The quad autocannons are from a Polish site called Bitspudlo.com Pretty Cheap too. If you scroll up a bit, you can follow the Hydra's build. The link is in red.

Some more WIP pictures of my tanks, this time just the Colossus artillery. I think the Siege gun is about done, just need to paint the sides of the chassis, and add decals. Some pics of the Colossus with its gun... And what it will look like when finished. (The completed chassis is from my Griffon model that has been finished.)

I really like that display board. Really really makes we want to get my own started but wouldn't have the room for it at the moment. How much did the plaque cost (with what I assume is engraving) if you don't mind me asking?

How much did the plaque cost (with what I assume is engraving) if you don't mind me asking? $16 dollars for the plaque, I found a local sign shop. The board was a large bulletin board bought at Target for $8, then painted to match my army. The large black border was a bonus. If I had to do it over again, I'd add multiple layers for added dynamics and levels, otherwise its a bit plain.

Thank you! I appreciate the comment. Here is the third Hydra in the squadron, to which I added a Squadron Commander, a blue/yellow "C" for command, and a white block with a Star in the middle on the back of one of the sides. I like the effect, actually. I tried to make the arms and the jacket look like they were a coat of some kind, but not sure if I succeeded or not. Here are three pics of the Hydra 278 And some close ups of the Hydra Squadron Commander. I added two patches to his arms: the white Hydra head that is on all of the Hydra tanks, and the blue wing with the yellow background that is also on all of the Hydra squadron. Both are painted freehand. I do seem some errors to fix: the CCXVIII is way crooked, so I'll redo that for sure. I need to paint the helmet's chin straps, and there is a white half circle on the blue and yellow "C" I need to touch up on.

I was looking at what I have left to paint (not including future projects that I don't have, like Basilisks, Ogryns, Banewolves, Devildogs, Conscripts and Rough Riders. Because I really want to build every unit in the Codex. Yes, I am a bit crazy) and it turns out, not a lot is left. I have a couple of Scout/Sniper Cadre, a unit of Catachans that will make more lovely Penal Legion, a Plantoon Command, and about 13 Karskin Stormtroopers. I had gotten the Karskins in a trade over a year ago, and I was able to purchase a couple of more, including a Sargent I was missing. I have: - a Sargent
- x2 Melta
- x2 Grenade Launchers (I really don't want these. But if I was in an Apoc Game, they could be useful)
- 1 Plasma
- x7 Karskins with Hot-Shot Lasguns in various poses (all four, actually)
Since I was looking for something to paint, I lit upon the stormtroopers. I had an idea to paint them in blacks, like the Elysian "Stormtroopers" I made earlier, but I might paint their guns and armor black, and give them a camo pattern similar to the scheme used by GW. I only had one Plasma, and I had a spare plasma special weapons trooper from somewhere. So, I decided to give him a promotion to the Glory Boys and made him a Karskin. I made a plasti-card strap, added some bits to look similar to the Plasma Karskin, some Carapace armor, and I uses brownstuff Procreate to give him goggles. Its a bit rough, but I think some paint will cover the flaws nicely. And here is a shot of the Plasma Karskins side by side. Also, finally, I added a scope to the Sargent's Hot-shot Lasgun? Pistol? to make it even more interesting. Also, for some reason his knife scabbard is empty, so I added a hilt of a combat knife as well.

Clever plasma gun conversion. That stormtrooper sergeant is one of my favourite models too, got one sat on my desk atm.

Thanks! It was rather simple, once I got the strap to stay in place. And yes, I agree on the Sargent, his sculpt is really crisp for a metal figure. And speaking off.... Here is a quick WIP or rather, paint in progress on the Karskin Sargent. He is pretty much done, just need to do the base and add decals to the shoulders. Trying to decide if do the cadian gate like the rest of my army, or a Skull above the Aqulia on the right shoulder pad.... Hmmmm Thoughts or comments?
