Looks pretty straight forward. Took the top piece of the chimera hull and cut a section from it just before the 2nd gun port and at the junction where the plates on the fore section bend in to meet the rear and join the separated pieces. The other changes apparent are the intended use of the autocannon from a heavy weapons team in place of the heavy bolter and the use of a bit of plastic sheet stock to fill in the top hatch.

Commissarbob got most of the things right. Added a few more details before priming. The primer dried, then I drybrushed some Boltgun Metal then Dryad Bark and last Mournfang brown. Here are two wips (the colours are off): Tomorrow I will give it a varnish seal, then some hairspray before painting it yellow. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

Hey Gerner, what colors did you use for the boots?
You used a Basilisk hull and a chimera...right?

I have only used chimera parts, I'm not rich enough to buy a basilisk. Boots on the Sons of Sek or on the Commissar?

Your SM scouts?
Is this a newer Chimera or older one?

That's an interesting lowered chimera variant.

Jackal: It's a brand new. Can you quote the picture you are thinking about? Cheminhaler: Thanks, but it isn't lowered only back set. So I did the most sensible thing to do.. Tried the technique out on a spare piece, and I'm glad I did! First I primed it black, then the purity seal followed, then the hairspray and lastly the yellow paint. The yellow paint was a female dog to get right, and I don't know if that kind of sealed the hairspray because I used too much. Never the less I couldn't get the yellow paint of with water and brush, eraser or nails. Only my scalpel made scratches in the paint. This luckily gave me a chance to test how my brown soap works for removing paint. It is soaking as we speak. Unfortunately it means that I have to put the chimera on break while I wait for the piece to get clean and let me do another try. Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong is appreciated. In the meantime I will try to start modelling five Sons of Sek for half a Veteran Squad.

U did like tan or a brown boot in the first couple pic...? Its just hard to tell on the chimera, the raised part below the turret is normally flush with front of the tank right...?

So summer vacation is over and I'm back into the hobby with more mojo than ever before, let us hope it keeps up. Apparently I convinced two of my new friends to start painting and playing with me (they picked up Dark Eldar and Tyranids). It is a major boost to sit together with a friend or two and paint. Here are some WIPS of my chimera and my first veteran squad: Hope you like it, and as always comments and critism is welcomed.

Very nice stuff gerner. The plasmagunners look really good and that seargent is probably one of my favourite models so far! Keep it up.

Duty was here, Freedom can go to hell. Just kidding. ;D I'm impressed that you're taking the inspiration from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series for your IG army.

@paxole: Thanks. The plasmagunners was quite a female dog to do since they had a big gap between the right arm and the right hand that I had to fill with greenstuff. The sergeant was a smooth conversion. sgtpotato: I have to dissapoint you, I have only played very little S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and taken none inspiration. But are you referring to my camo guys or the yellow sons of sek? Glad you like them though.

So I got some more paint and tracks on my chimera. First images: Okay, so this is still my first tank, so I'm hoping for some help and critique. I need to finish the viewing ports, do something to the metal and give some more wash on the sides so it matches better with the top and bottom. Then I was thinking drybrushing in grey tones to give it a feel of being driven through ruins, but don't know if there are better (still cheap) ways? Should the yellow be even more dark to fit with the troops or is it fine? Other suggestions, ideas, critique and comments are well received.

Looking good Gerner!! Only critique i would give is to paint the lenses like in the cosmic tutorial (unless that's what you are referring too when you say viewports, then just pretend i said nothing ) , and wash the tracks and heavy flamer. The tracks will really dirty up wit ha wash of badab black (nuln oil is the new name i think), and the heavy flamer with a mix of dark brown and brown wash. Seeing the amount of battle damage on the tank means to me that it has seen quite some fighting, and the flamer should look thourougly used Other than that, i have nothing to add!! Jobs a good 'un!

@ivory: This is a passage from The Armour of Contempt by Dan Abnett. I think they are pretty spot on. That one of them choose to take of his helmet and wear a bandana so he wouldn't get as much sweat in his eyes when wielding a flamer, is the freedom elite/chaos soldiers have. I would love nothing more than to get some constructive critique and personal opinions, but acting like a douchbag isn't cool. It's fine if you[/i] don't like them, but I do - and I feel like I got them spot on. I found this picture after I had made a few, so I feel it's pretty close.

Guy's come on.... No needfor a dispute. @ivory- Dude, I understand that you love the SoS, and as you said, the are one of your favourite Heretic Guard Regiments.... But, these are Gerner's personal take on them. It's not really fair to tell him his work is crap after he put all that work into them, for hisown persnal take on them. Gerner- I like them. I don't know much about the Sons of Sek, but they seem pretty awsome. I love the use of the Fantasy Chaos Knight torso on the Sergeant It looks groovy! Keep them coming! Dave

Shake hands please, gentlemen Gerner is back!! ;D I'm confused how I've never seen this thread before, really great stuff my friend. The chipping on the tank is superb. I'm also wondering how you got the turret near the rear of the tank?

@thing: Thanks Dave. I certainly will! @ivory: No worries mate. I would like to know how you think I can improve them or any further sons I do. @cosmic: I don't know either, maybe because I post once every second month - also it was called Shadows of Heresy which lead to some misguideance. Thanks - the chipping was harder than expected because the hairspray didn't work with me. Like this: You cut the top part into three pieces, move the middle piece and stick the other two together. Voila!

So after a heavy loss (twice) against Unwanteds Imperial Fists I decided to take some pictures of the soon painted additions to my Sons of Sek. Here are the pictures, sorry for the quality. Goons: Sniper & Sergeant: Mortar: New Company Comander: Sentinel (still wip): I need to do the highlights and finishing touches on the Plasma Squad, and then they will come up here as well. Thanks for looking/reading.
