I feel like I need someone to lash......
I admit that I haven't done anything (other than clean the other parts) with Fido since the last post. I've been extremely busy at work (Yes, I now have lots of money and no time, rather the opposite to my previous situation!) and I also have 3 community projects starting next week too (again, more money less time!) so I cannot promise any updates any time in the next week or so!
I am also as frustrated as you, as I'm very pleased with what I've done so far and I know the finished model will be soooooooooo cooooooooooooooool! ;D

Ok, a swift update of the very small amount I've done recently, easter hols with the little man and my GG8 entry being my main excuses. The marble eagle is pretty much done, just needs edge highlights and neatening up a bit. After the gold edging is done it'll be finished. I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out, as it's the first time I've tried to create this effect (3ff3ct? who knows...). I'm also certain that as I do it more often (on terrain, for example) then I'll be able to do it better. Maybe I'll go over it when that time comes. I've also started blocking out the dreaded freehand. Putting paint on has made me realise how badly drawn out it was in the first place, although painting it in is a lot easier than using a pencil so the mistakes should be pretty easily to sort out when I start sticking the details in. I'm now quite excited to finish this off, as it's really strange painting a 2D design onto a 3D surface, and I'm having to adapt the way I'd usually paint either! Hence why I sarted with midtones (as opposed to highlights and then shading like with canvas painting) so I can make it up as I go along! As always feedback, critique and ANY tips you have on doing freehand would be much appreciated!

Did a bit more freehand last night for an hour with a brew, managed to get most of the bone tones sorted. I think I'll see how the axes turn out before I decide if I want to add further highlights or not. And I blocked out the axes in a mid tone this morning at 5.30am, as I couldn't sleep. I also base coated the 'shoulder/interior' sections with red and brass, although they just look the same only red and brass so I thought I'd skip the pics

Another 1/2 hour of painting, another 2 cm done...I thought I might as well start the axes (as they scare the hell out of me) then I can get this shin pad finished and I can get onto the bulk of the body. I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out, although I can easily see another 4 hours being sunk into this!

Cheers mate! Glad yo're enjoying it. I really don't know why I chose something so complicated to try freehand with though! Another hour and a half gone, done the 'back' of the other axe head and both blade edges. I layered it up from 2:1 Chaos Black/Adeptus Battle Grey to Fortress Grey, lightening the tone by 1:2 each time. Talk about heavy going! It looks good though, just the flat areas on the blades to do now (some fiddly bits and wierd reflections ) and the handles, which should be a nice easy finish! Oh, and the cog, can't forget the cog

I'll do it for £950 Here's a quick update anyway. This is where I was at when I started: And here's where I am now: In my opinion, the skull now looks like total crap, so I'm going to add another 2-3 layers of highlights to ge it on par with the axes. I also need to rub out the pencil lines at somepoint.... The question is though, should I also add a banner? I think the axe heads unbalance it, although I do plan on dirty-ing it up a bit once the base is done. What do you think? I've also undercoated the last two parts now, so after I have finished the freehand I can get on with the main pieces and then the interior, which I am pretty excited about as I plan on making it look pretty grimey

I do agree with you about the skull 3ff3ct. It's not crap, it just needs more layers I think. It's still too blocky, it needs smooth shading and highlighting then it will be perfect

Thanks dude, it's been very hard to keep motivated with this part as it's so time consuming with such small results. I've done a few layers on the skull and blocked out the cogs now, so hopefully it'll be done pretty soon then I can get on with doing the main body. I'm very excited to do the interior too, as I think it'll be a good opportunity to get some OSL going on and create a lot of atmosphere.

Finished the 'eagle' shinpad. I added a bit of script, which I copied onto a piece of paper from a font I downloaded, then painted on. It took all of ten minutes It reads 'Death' and 'Glory' in latin, as I couldn't fit 'Defensor' on there.... I think the red works well, although my missus disagees. What do you think?
