So this is my new Riptide variant, the Kau'Yahra
Developed by Earth Caste technicians, the Kau'Yahra is a suit designed for ambushing and destroying enemy armour up to and including super heavies. The Kau'Yahra mounts a railgun adapted from the Hammerhead, and utilises a version of stealth technology adapted from the stealth suits. the powerful Riptide Nova Reactor can increase the penetrative capabilities of the railgun by enhancing the particle accelerator, or can even be used to improve the stealth effect generated. this allows the Kau'Yahra to destroy enemy armour at extreme range, and slip away using its' stealth technology and jet thrusters to escape reprisals. should the enemy get too close, the Kau'Yahra is armed with burst cannons for suppressing inantry, and a gravity wave projector for slowing the enemy as they close. the gravity projector draws from the same power source as the shield technology, meaning the Riptide shield cannot be overcharged, making it slightly more vulnerable to return enemy fire than the standard variants. the railgun incorporates larger scale markerlights to improve the accuracy and destructive potential of the shots, powered by the nova reactor, the riptide markerlight has a far greater range than the infantry version.
200pts heavy support choice
Wargear: Railgun Twin Linked Burst Cannon Riptide Networked Markerlight Gravity Wave Projector Riptide Shield Generator
Special Rules Nova Reactor Supporting Fire Stealth
Railgun: the same as the hammerhead version, 72" range, S10, AP1, plus submunitions.
Riptide networked markerlight: boosted by the power supply of the nova reactor, and linked to the Kau'Yahra's high tech sensor suite, the riptide markerlight has a range of 72" and is heavy 2.
Gravity wave projector: same as the codex
Nova Reactor options:
Nova Charge using the nova reactor to power the Riptide's railgun, the solid shot profile adds Armourbane. furthermore, any unit (friend or foe) that lies under a direct line between the firing riptide and its' target has to pass an initiative test or suffer the effects of Blind as the air ignites with the passing of the round.
Ripple Fire as per the codex, fire the burst cannons twice
Boost roll 4D6 for thrust moves
Patient Hunter the nova reactor pours more power in to the stealth field generators. upgrade Stealth to Shrouded.
The Kau'Yahra may take any of the systems available to the basic riptide, and may take shielded sniper drones instead of shielded missile drones for the same cost.

Excellent. I think you need to have a squished cyclist (who obviously couldn't tell the difference between red and green) under the foot of the 'Tide that's on the pavement with the cyclist lane marking.

one of the guys on BoLS is a keen cyclist so I thought it would make him happy. I also just found the idea hilarious so, there it is

thanks very much, I am very pleased with him so far. it is my favourite type of conversion, one that looks simple but isn't. I started with the standard archon model, put the legs wide apart to get the stance right. that too ages because the hips only touched along one narrow edge in that pose. so I had to glue the feet and thin edge, and leave it to dry for ages. took a long time to get right in the first place, then I didn't wait long enough and tried to push on, only for the legs to twist out of place, so I had to re-glue and start again. left him a couple of hours. then greenstuff to fill the large gap above and below the hip joint, torso front glued on with the shoulder pads removed. halved the size of the cloak, used the warrior back banner. head from a reaver jetbike pilot. left arm came from a venom wych hanger on, cutting off the knife and adding a blast pistol instead. all dark eldar have pistols in the right hand, and usually close combat weapons in the left. right arm was cut at the shoulder and forearm and repositioned. the hand came from a raider warrior hanging off the side, and the polearm came from the raider too. shoulder pads are from the valkyrie door gunners I think, with the right shoulder spike coming off the original archon model pad, and the left spike I had lying around from some other thing.

Excellent work! I'm a big fan of the paint scheme on the new Tau suits! Let me know how they hold up in a battle since I'm contemplating whether or not they'll be useful and considering adding a few to my Tau contingent.

thank you.
the white scheme? it does look really good. Tau are probably my favourite army so this month is like Christmas every saturday. I already have two ghostkeels on order, then it will be three boxes of fire warriors this weekend, then a frankly silly number of crisis suits the week after.

Haha I hear that, the Tau could really use some new units.
Are you getting the new fire warriors or just the standard? I've heard they're releasing a new type but haven't seen much information on them.

Did you finish up that Archon conversion? I ended up with an assembled and basecoated version of that model from ebay so I can appreciate some of what you'll have had to do to it, and reading about sounds like it really was one of those subtle but difficult things.

I haven't done much more to him since I posted the pics. I often have that trouble, once it gets far enough along to be table top ready I start to lose interest, and there is always more that needs doing

Same here. Curse of the new project, or just not bringing yourself to put brush to model.

yeah I don't do that much painting these days, though I am trying to pick it up a bit, at the very least with the tau. my Farsight army was the first to be fully painted for years, so with so many new releases this month I am hoping to keep that up. The stormsurge isn't perfect and could do with the odd touch up, but to be honest I spent all day Sunday, then Monday and Tuesday evening on it and kind of burned out. it is good enough to be on the table which is the main thing.

I just saw a picture for the new Tau bleachers and they look awesome.
On a side-note, where will we be able to find the rules and profiles for these new weapons and units?
