Hello everyone! Hope Christmas and the new year were happy and productive! I've finally got round to finishing some Krieg. I got this little beauty for Christmas. Took me ages to finish as I had to do it in stages so I could get at the detail! Here she is:

I'm annoyed with myself for not commenting on this thread in such a long time. Great to see you're still going with it all, Judd, fantastic work.
As a kit, how is the Centaur? Did you have many problems with it?

Judd: your stuff looks amazing!
Great use of drybrushing, washes and your attention to detail is fantastic.
I like the consistent theme through out your army and the additional effort put into mud and other weathering looks excellent.
However,
I cannot help but notice you seem to be putting large letters and signs (such as arrows) on to your models with a level of execution that is somewhat lower than the rest of your work.
Human eyes are drawn to shapes they recognise (hence why lettering and insignia is put on tanks in the first place), this means that this will need to look good as it is likely to be what stands out on the model.
Can I suggest that you try using a much finer brush to draw a set of dots which mark the corners of the insignia, then draw fine lines to complete an outline first. This isn't easy so I recommend using a thinned paint to mark out your outline. Once you have an outline then fill the interior with the primary colour.
Another technique is to use a fine permanent marker, though I find that these do not necessarily work on acrylic and are tricky to find in the size small enough for your needs.
A final technique is to apply transfers using micro set and micro sol for best results.
I appreciate just how difficult this is to achieve as my tank numbering is no where near perfect!
Please consider this as praise and a gentle push to excel yourself further, you are clearly talented!
Great stuff, keep it up!

Thanks guys! Cosmic the kit was a joy to build, the only part that needed much work was the blast shield on the top! I may get another at some point. treadiculous, thanks for the honest and constructive critique. My free hand isn't up to much I agree I may have to start using decals or something in the future. Next up I'll be doing some field artillery (heavy mortar and quadlauncher).

I think your freehand is there as you are capable of putting tidy details onto your infantry,
I think it is the means of application: the process of making large bold shapes does not come from large brushes (as I discovered when painting all the square chequered flag pattern over the Ork Rok sometime last year), It comes from planning the shape, building up layers, using thin brushes and patience!
Your stuff is fantastic and I really love the attention given to the bases of your infantry and artillery, the whole 'bases and faces make the biggest impact' is certainly true!
When looking at your army I feel the grimdark pooling around me like a dank fog of despair.

Thanks! High praise indeed! I do put a lot of effort into my painting and modelling, glad other people like them! Made some progress on my artillery I'll post them up when they're done.

I love the thudd guns, and artillerly emplacements. I keep thinking at some point I will have to do an army just to use them. maybe a nice Iron Warriors force.

They're amazing kits I say go for it! If you like the artillery here's my latest piece, another heavy mortar. Next up will be my Shadowsword, with that I'll have just over 5000pts in my Krieg force!

very nice indeed.
I really like the Victoria Miniatures heavy mortar too. I might have to get lots at some point and just have a big line of artillery.

Fantastic stuff Jud, your Kreigsman are gritty and sombre, true to the vision I have of them. Loving the heavy weapon emplacments, the bases are a real treat as is all the weathering on your tanks and infantry.
looking forward to more.
cheers, Cuthbo

agreed, the work on the bases really helps to establish the environment in which the models are fighting.
Great stuff.

So dirty... Soooooo dirty...
I approve of the epic amounts of mud on the bases (in addition to the overall levels of AWESOME in the painting on the troopers and the arty pieces). Really makes these DKoK look like they are on the Eastern Front circa wintertime thaws of '43-'45 (not to mention anywhere on the line during Global War I). Are you using the GW texture paints, or a homebrew mud concoction for basing?

Thanks guys! Trooper-one-nine-seven-four, I use Valejo grey pumice for the mud it's simply spread on the area with a knife. Next up will be my Shadowsword.

Finally finished my Shadowsword. I've taken Trediculous' advice and for the first time used decals, I think he's right and I'm quite pleased with the results. Next up will be more Death riders (I'm building the new Deathrider detachment.) As I say next up will be more Deathriders, thanks for looking.

Amazing weathering/ rust on your Shadowsword. The green scheme is quite appealing.

After about 6 months of working on my 30k Ultramarines I've come back to my beloved Krieg. Over the next few months I want to build a new list based around the Deathrider Battle Forged Formation. To do this I will need 6 more Deathriders (not including the 2 below), some Engineers and another Earthshaker Cannon. Here's my latest Deathriders: Next up will be the Engineers.
