Well it's passed September but I finally bring word from 'Fronz'. Ivory has posted everything back to me today so I should get it soon! I'm firmly back on track and painting away with everyone's stuff but I want everyone to do Ivory and me a favour and cross your fingers in hope that French customs don't obliterate everything in the box like they did the Macharius! So cross everything!

Thank you, Gearboxx Well we have an idea of what is going to be changed etc. The insides of the shoulder pads will be changed to black to break up the colours a little, the pouches will all be painted too as you can see many aren't even painted. The Banner needs a design, the skin tones will be changed to the fluffy charcoal black and red eyes. Bases will be finished and improved, and I'm hopefully going to attempt some stencilling in the armour....not sure how yet but I'll try it!

I must confess that normally I'm not a fan of OSL--I think it's prone to being overdone and abused, and horrifically executed in many instances, but Cosmic you really did a beautiful job with that plasma pistol. The plasma coils really draw the eye, and the gradation of the reflection on the armor is perfect. Having only one (or a few) of these in the army really makes them pop (it's both subtle and bold) but without overwhelming everything else, which is what I sadly see on other forums when OSL is done (the aforementioned "overdone and abused" clause).
Really looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with these guys!

Cheers, Trooper means a lot Well.......I'm back!! And I have some updates on the Sallies. After they arrived back to me in pieces, I have spent the past 2 days repairing them and making the changes laid out by Ivory (Black shoulder pads, flaming swords etc). I've managed to finish 8 of them today and thought I'd share with you how they're looking now... Subtle changes such as some rust on the armour with pigments, changed the rims of the bases to black and picked out a few more details. The Sergeants sword will be changed to reds and oranges, not sure how yet but I will decided on a style soon. More photos can be found on my Facebook page, Cosmic Creations. I believe though you need to type in 'The Cosmic Creations' to find it Cosmic ++EDIT++ It also appears now that some of the Sallies will get the German treatment, and by German treatment I mean another great Photoshop edit by my German friend Lukas, the same as the Praetor and Valdor

Beautiful!
Glad that you have been able to repair the abuse inflicted upon them by the postal service. Love how dirty, dinged up, and gritty these guys are feeling. Ivory is going to have a beautiful army once done!

Thanks mate. Luckily nothing had completely snapped, it was just the usual areas that broke off, shoulder pads, heads and weapons etc.
Really looking forward to seeing what Lukas does with them in an edit!

Absolutely incredible, the rust, the soot and burnt face plates really add to the Salamander's incendiary nature. I LIKE!
I love what you did to the sword, is it finished?

That sword is incredible; going from white to black and looking fiery..
I hope you get good dice rolls with that, Ivory.
Do 30k salamanders get the master crafted power weapons, like their 40k counterparts?

@chem: Yes but it's called a Paragon Blade I believe, I generally field them with the 40k codex but now that Book II: Massacre is out, I have access to the Salamander's official army list. Can you feel the temperature rising?

okay... everything is amazing... but.
(yes, sorry everyone I have found fault in our amazing cosmic... don't worry its only minor and not to do with his painting skill)
I have spent a lot of time working with rust on my old Dodge 50 trucks and when looking at the rusted shoulder pads some of the marine shoulder pad's rusted metal borders become very bright silver near the edge - rust would normally start on edges and outside surfaces first and work inwards. Even if a rusted surface received battle damage it would likely be rusty beneath that and crumble away rather than presenting a shiny silver edge underneath.
depending on the depth of the metal will depend on how much flakes away before revealing anything shiny.. to be honest if it is flaking then underneath will still be rusty - it would need to be ground off to reveal shiny metal.
Shiny metal will rust rapidly, within 48 hours or so if exposed to moist climate.
rust is different in different climates - in desert environments it will do different damage, normally because the paint bakes and flakes away then the dampness effects all areas and more frequently those which face the sun (because that's where the paint gets baked away first), where as in moist climates like the UK (!!!) rust gathers where water collects or travels.
it would just take a little drybrushing over the silver edges to rust them up a bit more in keeping with the rest of the rust elsewhere.
however...your latest pic post does appear to have mostly fixed this

the rusted shoulder pads some of the marine shoulder pad's rusted metal borders become very bright silver near the edge Whilst you have some great points there that I will take into consideration, the silver edging isn't to do with the rusting, it's purely a highlight to compliment the Burnished Brass paint to give me the gold colour I wanted for them no different to how you would paint a metallic colour using GWs style, but thank you. The sponged on black and brown oil paints add the rust effect, but I haven't concentrated that on the shoulder pads. Thanks everyone for the feedback, and yes Ivory the sword is finished, unless you were wanting something else again?
