Looks great Minus.. the ink helped a ton.. and nice CHimera.. though I would wash it as well.. more so on the lighter colors. TB.. looking forwards to seeing what you cool up for those scouts.. also glad to see that between the 2 of us, we might actually get our armies finished this time around.. though I still have something like 80 more NGs to paint.. plus other units.. and the wife wont let me buy anything new until they are completed.. so this competition is the best thingfor me with regards to being able to maybe start up a new force if I can get this one finished Cheers Gris

nice work minus!
ok, 10 bonus points for completing the inkwash project. 1pt for 1 kasrkin model, +.25 for a clean crisp paintjob in the quality bonus catagory. 5pts for the chimera, are you claiming assembly points for it? we'll do .3 for quality bonus on the chimera for nice solid colors.
question: did you paint the 3 guardsmen that you used for your painting project with the intent of them having them scored or were they prepainted/prescored for the competition?
total point gains for you so far for this batch are 16.55 sir!
gris: I picked up a dev squad boxed kit for this week and that's all I'll be able to afford for the week, so I'll have 5 dudes to add to the table from that then maybe some assault marines (I think I can get bits for 5 worth rummaged up)...so like 10 models for that - I think I'm gonna hold off on painting the scouts and go for sniper scouts instead if I do scouts at all. the fact that the scouts can't take a special weapon is kinda a dealbreaker for me - infiltrating AT goodness to get an early side shot but still being melee capable is what it'd take for me to really get into them. I dunno, if I miss infiltrators too bad I might pick up a squad but as is, I think they'd just be a points give away to my opponent.
***paintoff news alert***
minus has passed knight and fishki, taking him off the chopping block and putting fishki at risk of being eliminated on the 4th!

Woot congrats to minus.. keep it up.. cause when this elimination round is over a new one is going to be starting.. TB-- I would do snipers.. with a ML if I were you.. set up in a nice side building halfway up the field.. distraction bait.. have a nice unit of Assault marines ready to counter assualt or a dev unit ready to blast whatever gets to them.. use them as a speed bump and they will do wonders.. plus with snipers and a ML they will be able to harrass most units nicely.. so they will be targetted which is what you want anyways.. Going to try to get my NG Boss done tonight.. will see if it happens.. I need him for a game on wednesday so might as well paint him now that he is based and primed.. Cheers Gris

Ok a question to the peanut gallery here.. I have a request from my club to paint up some of their buildings for them.. since we will be hopefully starting up a mordheim/necromunda campaign in the fall.. wondering would those be ok to submit for points No construction points just painting them.. as far as I know nothing elaborate but it is going to pretty much take up my sunday.. but the question is would it be fair to submit them? They aren't really miniatures.. but they are kinda essential to this game we play.. So I leave this question to you.. if I can then I will do what I did last weekend and post pics as I complete stages of them.. Cheers Gris

AY! it's not said and done yet grisnik! Immuna gechoo! all I have to do is make you burn thru what...like 60 more night gobbos then you'll be close to out of your seemingly limitless reserve of ready to paint models - don't go claiming that blister yet mister goddess - you're the woman! you rock for donating another blister to the pot; now it's really gonna get interesting! see, my theory is this: make grisnik burn thru all his pre-assembled models then he'll have to order more which'll cost him a bunch and take a while to arrive in which time I can exploit the opening to drive home a crushing victory! it'll be like surgery but it may be my only hope at winning this thing!

Ok just to see that I am actually still in the mood of painting.. WIP shots of my lord.. though I need to get better lighting cause the shading looks better in RL :S Also TB.. I still have 120 more NGs.. plus 20 to build.. plus extra models for my NG army.. a giant.. my Ogres.. a land raider.. a basilisk.. sentinal.. and who knows how many Guardsmen.. and when that is all finished.. I will gladly go out and buy more models to paint up if you can keep up with me at that time.. I have ideas on what to do for a Beasts of Chaos army.. or if this competition lasts long enough.. I might be able to get home to Canada, pick up my 300+ Orks for 40k.. and begin painting them up as well Your all doomed.. even Knight.. sorry boys.. but this one is mine.. challenge me if you dare but then I will just show you my ability to buckle down and paint up a huge horde in the matter of 48 hrs or less... Also it is September 4th where I am.. once the showdown is called and the last place eliminated.. I am recalling it.. giving the next bottom feeder a week to move to second to last place.. Knight are you home yet? Are you painting like a mad man yet? Or is minus in trouble this time? Cheers Gris

I'm not home yet. I think I'll be at home at 1st October. But I'll start throwing everything in the fight I got. Imperial Guard of 2 Regiments (about 60 soldiers + heavy weapon teams), Word Bearers Chaos Space Marines (about 16 some of them converted), Clanrats (about 20 mins painting from 0-100%, 30 Clanrats), Plague Monks (about 10mins from 0-100%, about 15), Giant Rats (10mins as well and number is far too many), Rat Ogres (just 2...), a heavily converted Necromunda Gang (managed to finish one before I left, but couldn't take a good pic, 8 more to come), a small Mordhein gang (I think it were 7 bandits), about 36 minis from my secret project (20 non converted, 15 converted, and one character), a Leman Russ MBT My painting time after my return will be about 8h per day and no work on the weekends for 2 weeks. So prepare for the worst... Oh and not to forget I'll get loads of money for the 2 months I worked every day. So I'll have no problems with buying more minis if I start to run short on them

Good to hear mate.. considering that by Oct 1st it will only be 3 members or less at that time.. and as of Oct 1st.. I will drop the Massive showdown.. and the point spread we have currently I would be very interested to see how far you can get in a week Note to self.. must bump the point total to over 300 before Oct 1st.. make things.. really interesting.. /insert evil laugh here... Cheers Gris

You know this wont help you.. If I can reach 300 points by the end of the month.. you, my callious little friend, are doomed!!!!! I think this last weekend I have broken TB's motivation.. I haven't seen him post anything since the weekend.. I wonder if he is ok? Come on TB.. I know you can make a comeback.. I am not that far ahead of you.. plus you can motivate me to push the bar even higher for the rest of the gang.. Cheers Gris

I got my dev squad boxed kit for the week, so I've got 5 new models I can paint haha it's all good though. I got to play my first game with my 1500pt dark angels list tonight and I slaughtered hard. it was me and black templars vs mech eldar and armored company and I did practically all the heavy lifting in the fight, killing 2/3 of the armored company and 2/3 of the eldar infantry (and 50% of the wave serpents - the falcons as usual were pretty much untouchable though we peppered them with enough glances that one actually went down - props to the black templars!) it was an awesome game and neither me or the black templar player thought we had any chance, but my devastators killed a leman russ per turn early on and then it turned into meltabombs and short range meltagun kills taking out more of his heavy tanks - it was awesome. he was the 'assaulty' army and I was the one all the way across the field...and I have a shooty army!!! it was an impressive display of marine prowess if I am able to humbly toot my own horn a bit about it anyway, I'm gonna assemble up my new dev squad box, it'll be really nice to have that dev squad wysiwyg and painted up too. then I'll just need to do a couple rhinos (I have 1 so that can get done) and a razorback and a bp/ccw veteran squad then I'll have my 1500pt list fully done up. the bp/ccw list I'll see what I can get done, I might have some random bits that'll let me get a few of those models done so that's good. I'm really to the point where I'm scraping for bits just to make models to paint, so there's no real wind in my sails as far as clocking points goes. I'll see what points I can wring out of these wet sheets though.

Hee hee nice job on the win mate.. goes to show what a few well placed Lascannon shots can do to an unprepared IG force.. should direct that player over here so we can teach him how to beat you I know you dont have the capacity to go full bore for points in this.. I was really surprised that you caught up so fast and am really really impressed.. though time is really againest me as I am on vacation for a week this month and the weekends I will be spending time with the wife so painting is really limited to after work 2 days a week if I am lucky.. but we will see what I can get done in that time though.. Knight needs to be buried in points.. I want to hear him scream in agony all the way across the world when he sees the mountain of points facing againest him so soon.. would like to see the look on his face would be more enjoyable but I will go for the internet taunts and screams instead Don't worry though guys.. whatever is in the blisters I will name after those who put up a brave fight.. TB for his points scare before I broke his motivation.. Knight for his optimistic attitude that he could still win.. and Minus for his come from behind start and not getting booted right off the get go.. and GoD cause well why not eh? Sure of myself? Yes.. why? Cause it causes people to try harder, which in turn makes me try harder, which in the end causes more people to paint more and have more painted forces out there to take over the world.. Evil?? Absolutely.. Cheers Gris

haha while I'd love to say yes, I've got to draw the line >somewhere< and I think I'm going to draw it at 'must be hobby related' on that same note, getting back to grisniks question about terrain, yes, as it's hobby related, I'll score it for points though it's not going to be worth a lot unless it's really amazing stuff that I can tell took a lot of time and effort). heavily drybrushed terrain will be very cheap in the point gains department cuz it's so easy to do.
at any rate yeah, game on!
I have to admit, I >am< bordering on burnout at the moment so I'm definately taking a moment to rub my eyes and prepare for my next surge.

Good show mate.. and yeah I am not expecting a lot of points for the terrain.. I kinda was before.. but I was actually going to go into detail on it like a miniature.. but the guys at the club want me to paint it up like the existing terrain with is a heavy drybrush of grey.. with some brown and such to show dirt and what not on it.. so nothing majorly special on it.. will see though..
Got my lord finished last night.. will post him up later today when i get back from the doctors..
cheers Gris

I reallyreally like the cloak you did on him. if you could make a tutorial to go thru the steps of showing/talking about how you blend so smoothly that'd be really cool.

Ok so I am home sick and yet still working.. damn job providing me internet and a laptop.. stupid VPN invention.. Anyways good news is that I got to take some time out to get the Lord's picture taken while it is still sunny outside.. so here it is.. Also with regards to the cloak.. I can make a short tut on it with the next model.. but mostly it is just thinning down the colors a lot.. and using thinned inks for the recesses.. Hope you like.. will see if I can get my 4 bases of snotlings finished this week.. seems I will be at home all week so lets see what happens then eh? Cheers Gris
