Yeah, some nice assassins without a crazy ass inquisitor running amuck on our points.
Also...underslung grenade launchers...

If the underslung launchers were a one-shot weapon it would be cool.... use them as assault weapons so stormtroopers can charge and have a shooting attack. Good idea that.

I think that IG should have more power in their guns. I dont mean lasguns (sorry guys) but they could have a bit more technically advanced guns, like some really heavy blasters, like heavy bolter as an option for their normal guardsmen. OK they have granadelaunchers and stuff, but still... Well im not playing with ig, but this was my suggestion.

Hey guys, back after looong absense(had net problems). First of all, none of my suggestions will b utopic:instead, they will all be within the approach GW seems to have on both IG and new codexes.
a)about simplicity of the army/game: Perhaps more urgent than the doctrines is the plattoon-type choices.A friend of mine saw a 2k point list and said "hey man!you have 5 HQ and 10 TROOPS, that's illegal!" u know: 1 HQ command, 2 anti-tank & 2 infantry platoon commands ="5 HQs", and 10 infantry squads. I am trying to say that the platoon organization makes a list look "ugly" ,difficult to compare its quality to other factions, and repulsive to new players who regard IG army building too difficult. Why can't every "choice" be a unit?Like conscripts. Infantry plattoon:should consist of a junior officer and 2 to 5 squads, all one unit. like conscripts.perhaps not quite as powerful shooting-wise since one unit can only target one unit, but better at close combat(they gonna engage all of them).
b)IG, if its not "poorman's Tau", needs a close combat unit. idea: the armored fist squad should take 2 special weapons instead of hvy + special, and they should have shotguns(same stats as now) so they can move-shoot-charge.definitely not overpowered solution, and fluffy too.It should also not need a plattoon as requirement, both to let players play mechanized despite my previous suggestion, and it won't still be broken(myself i'd take the plattoon for example, or one of each for flexibility)
c)the independent characters should all have a 4+ init even the Lts, since they can be targetted in single combat, so they at least get to attack once.If not so, they should be able to stand the attacks(4+ refractor?)this seems overpowered, but since they are( and SHOULD BE) S3, T3 it is only natural to let them attack once, they won't "destroy everything".
d)for firepower, the heavy weapons squads should be, like, a heavy support choice, but with BS of 4 or slow and purposeful (to compete with the tanks as a choice). an army will still be able to pack 10+ heavy weapons with one hvy wpns squad choice + 3 hvy wpns in each of two plattoons, and 2 heavy tanks will still be available. or even massive 20+ will still be available.
All in all, without examples, my suggestions: a)get rid of the "one choice=many units" concept, for important reasons stated.
b)give as a proper close combat unit(just one, we're not tau, we should have one!)
c)let our independent characters be able to at least attack once in close combat.
d)make heavy weapon squads another choice, not an upgrade to HQ (see NO PLATOONS!), perhaps with BS 4 or something so they can compete with other choices.
I honestly think none of these suggestions are broken or overpowered, and all are in the "spirit" of simplicity.

listen, i know the plattoon system works nice but it is not simplified enough. This is a game after all. if GW cared about realism at all then the IG would be imba and overpowered, since it is the most realistic army, employing realistic tactics. But since it is a game, gw says "we gonna make the game easier for dumb ppl to understand" and they've got a point as dumb ppl have also right for gaming experience.
In that spirit, the plattoons NEED to go.Or if we going realistic, they should be in all armies as with all today's armies... face it:FLUFF IS GOING AWAY like in all other such games. replaced with modelling ability(could be bad change, could also be nice though).I personally expect (with displeasure but a degree of CERTAINTY) that all regiments will be "renamed to cadians" and perhaps a codex for too different chapters, like tallarns/ catachans, but not harakoni or steel legions for example.sad but true and mainly:inevitable.we might as well try to save what still can be changed by controlling that change through useful suggestions like these.

I dont understand why they are simplifying the rules all the time. It's better for beginners but hardcore gamers will eventually get bored with all this simplifying. Might as well play Risk.
If they are so afraid of loosing new gamers because of complicating rules they can make a "warhammer 40k light" with simpler rules for beginners...

Yeah, 40K lite for the beginners or the challenged.

If they do that praetorian, GW can go **** themselves. I'll go and write my own rules for IG. Or maybe I'll just play WWII. At least then I'll be able to play without forking out a ridiculous amount of money for inferior products. Use the models and real rules rather than rules made for cissies and the retarded.

why? just because they make new rules doesnt mean we have to play by them. just continue to play with the rules we have now or go to 3rd edition.

listen, i know the plattoon system works nice but it is not simplified enough. whats not simple? you have one troop choice. that troop choice has a head squad. did i lose you yet? that squad leads 2-6 other squads. its simple enough. This is a game after all. if GW cared about realism at all then the IG would be imba and overpowered, since it is the most realistic army, employing realistic tactics. the individual regiments are not invincible. they are either infantry or armoured. the entire imperial guard is indestructible yes however they are just men in flak with lasguns. But since it is a game, gw says "we gonna make the game easier for dumb ppl to understand" and they've got a point as dumb ppl have also right for gaming experience. In that spirit, the plattoons NEED to go.Or if we going realistic, they should be in all armies (here do you mean all the races? because not all races operate within in the platoon system. all the others have squads that operate under the company or chapter master not to an officer.) as with all today's armies... face it:FLUFF IS GOING AWAY like in all other such games. replaced with modelling ability(could be bad change, could also be nice though).I personally expect (with displeasure but a degree of CERTAINTY) that all regiments will be "renamed to cadians" and perhaps a codex for too different chapters, like tallarns/ catachans, but not harakoni or steel legions for example.sad but true and mainly:inevitable.we might as well try to save what still can be changed by controlling that change through useful suggestions like these. the platoon system is easy to understand unless you just cant read if thats the case go back to school.

True, though it can be somewhat inflexible. And it forces you to spend a minimum of one-third your points on troops, and another one-third on HQ. Not brilliant.

Whatever they do to the new codex I`d like to see it based on the Mordians. There would be so much scope for new units based on Napoleonic style tactics. Plastic mordians would also allow GW to release conversion kits to make Preatorians.

Some people seem to have misjudged my points. I do not mean that the plattoon system is too hard to understand. I mean that it makes the army look too "Different" compared to other armies, and as such it discourages new players from bying IG products (they can understand the system if they try, but "WHY TRY?" since today's people are mainly retarded).
I think GW wants to sell more products, pure and simple, even if it means spoiling the game.
I think , honestly, GW couldn't give a damn about fluff and army concept anymore, only wants to "keep up appearances" allowing minor modifications. All in the name of increased sells.
I also think this is not "evil".Who are we to say these people shouldn't want to gain more money to feed their families? They are a company, not the red cross.
All in all, the reason for this opinions is GW seems to be "indoctrinating" the "turn the game to tournament-worthy only, to encourage competitive powergaming players to buy stuff" approach mainly found in classic, semi-proffesional card games.
In this spirit, we might as well try to suggest things that are fluffy but do NOT go against their strategy, as if we do that they probably won't take our (probably right)suggestions seriously. This way, we can keep as much fluff as possible if GW ppl see this thread.

I refuse. If GW wish to behave like buffoons and pander to the desires of the inbred masses, then that is their concern. I have come to expect a product that is pleasant, fun, provides good, fast gameplay with a sufficent degree of complexity to allow for proper wargaming rather than allowing those cursed with a lack of intellectual ability or too lazy to attempt to understand the phrase 'guard infantry' to dictate to their superiors. As given that the smarter GW players are all capable of writing their own rules sets, it would be sensible to pander to us (the smart) rather than the stupid.
If you are offended by this, you are: A closet communist A real communist Stupid Inbred Any of the above.
And I believe that the nezt IG codex should give more, rather than less, freedom to a prospective imperial guard player.
New Idea
A system similar to the cityfight tunnelers ability, only in a set terrain piece (a opening or an enclosed bunker) so that IG players can move infantry straight into cover.

actually we dont really have to worry about losing fluff. we just have to get jervis johnson to like the guard as much as he likes the space wolves. jervis johnson has personally aclaimed and professed that he will not let the grey hunters become tacticals, that the space wolf scouts will not loose BEL. and that the long fangs will not be devastators.
if we can just get jervis to appreciate the guard we can never loose

I agree spacepuppy. But how?I am open to ideas... In fact i believe that if GW takes a look on this thread something good could come up. Anyone knows if GW has looked other such threads in the past and been affected?

(if GW does read this: i dont mean any personal harm to jervis its just a joke in case something does happen however nothing should happen! please dont sue me or send the inquistion after me!)
