Yeah i'm one of those who totally believe that doctrines are gone. I think alot of the doctrines will be brought in as a buy back item into squads. Such as a Platoon will have to be like a mech, drop, or light infantry type platoon. With each squad being the one the platoon is. Or possibly it may be the Company you decide to field. All or none will have to be it with certain restrictions on what you could field.
I doubt the last part though. I dunno i don't think they will leave the Guard hanging but this is GW and if they took it away from the smurf's i'm about 85% sure then we are going to lose it. I dunno only time will tell

Good grief, what's with this mass delusional idea that doctrines were ever any good? In case you haven't noticed the only ones ever taken are Drop troops or Light Infantry - and that's because they are so jammy!?! All the other doctrines are largely a points sink, with the minor exception of close order, the officer ones and the free ones (like vets) - because they're free?
Even so, the only reason you use doctrines is because the Guard codex 'specialists' are so pants, you can afford NOT to bother buying them back.
It's like putting a massive supercharger on a fast car that can't corner, it'll go even faster - but it still can't corner.
Why are we so addicted to doctrines - they don't work. Any player worth his salt drops them after two minutes and all they really 'individualise' is giving you the 'concept' of choice, while actually limiting your army to core units (ie not excluded) with gizmo's - great?
The whole IG list needs serious tweaking, that's the only reason doctrines were 'good' - because the list is overpriced, under gunned and severely limited. What is happening to the new codex is exactly what's required. We won't need 'doctrines' because we'll actually have a codex that works...
Good grief, if I have to read another "If they drop doctrines, I'm using the old codex" I'll bleed - it just pathetic! AND Boring! AND dull! AND with poorly limited vision!
Boohoohoo - go play machines of war, you cretin!

I've got zero apprehensions about the new codex, I'm sure it will be fine, sure it may take some time getting use to it but so long as my whole army remains usable I will be happy! and if I find I have to buy a few few things so everything works right, well...so be it. (the new stuff just looks cool anyway!) If they get rid of doctrines im just going to keep using the old codex All of your posts here have seemed to me to be backwards, overly cranky, and negative, cheer up new guy!

"...and if I find I have to buy a few few things so everything works right, well...so be it."*
Yeah, agreed. Since almost all of the new stuff looks frikking cool, who's gonna resent buying some new bits? Collecting is part of the hobby. Read JJ's column in the latest White Dwarf that explores the joys of collecting/urges people to BUY MORE GAMES WORKSHOP STUFF, MONKEYS!
*The quotey thing didnae work, Cap'n.

No, Games Workshop is a large British corporate empire. They wouldn't brainwash us through their propaganda magazine... Wait a minute.

New 'special characters - Pg: 57-67' (10 pages worth!) are:
Captain Al'rehem (tallarn innit?) Colonel Straken (Catachan?) Commander in Chief Chenkov (Startrek?) Lukas Bastonne (French - clearly a Republican!) Commissar Yarrick (Grumpy country) Jarren Kell and his pet uber-commander Creed (Cadia) Le Mongol Kamir (errr Kamir the Mongol ... roughrider anyone?) Nork Dedog - Orgyrn Bodyguard (yah!) Artillery Sergeant Harker (S4 anyone) Marbo - One man army (for our shame...)
Breaking down the sections - this shows up some interesting formations, like servitors and techpriest being in the HQ section...
HQ Section
Company Commander (30) Offcier of the fleet (pg 31) Atteilery Officer (31) Guard du Corps (chief medic?) (31) Bodyguard (veteran stats) (31) Astropath (31) Commissar (pg 32) Primaris Psyker (pg 33) Techpriest Enginseer and Servitor (pg 34) Ministriom Officer (35)
Troops
platoon Leader (36) Guardsmen (37) Conscript (37) Heavy Weapon Team (38) Chimera (39)
Elites
Veteran Heavy Weapon Team (40) Veterans (pg 40) Penal Troops (41) Orgyrn (42) Ratlings (pg 43)
Fast Attack
Rough Riders (pg 44) Sentinel (44) Armoured Sentinel (pg 44) Shock Troops (Valkyrie?) (pg 46) Sanctioned Psyker (pg 47) Mentor (pg 47)
Heavy Support
All Seven Leman Russ Variants (pg 48-49) Bane Wolf (50) Devildog (50) Hellhound (50) Hydra (51) Medusa, Griffon, Collossus, Basalisk (52-53) Manticore (54) Deathstrike (55) Valkyrie and Vendetta (56)

I didn't see storm troopers in there... EDIT: and I also just saw on BoLS is that all the Leman Russ variants have side armour 13, the valkyrie will have AV: 12/12/10 and there's an armoured sentinel with AV 12/10/10 The punisher is definatly in the game with its 20 S5 AP- shots the Executioner Cannon: Range: 37" S: 7 AP: 2 Type: heavy 3 and all those 3 shots have a blast marker. As the poster put it - the terminator eraser!!! The Medusa and the Death Strike Missile will be theee, and each shot puts 3 templates, not just 1

Yep, Storm Troopers translates in French as "Troupe de Choque", so that would make sense. This could be good, you can now field Veterans AND Stormies in the same armies. Can't wait to have a look at those special characters' rules though! Edit: BTW, I think Chenkov is a Valhallan commander, though I would like a teleporting, mustache wearing special character too

Have you guys seen the actual sheet? I've managed to find it on warseer. I can post the individual stats for anyone who hasn't seen it yet... Hellguns are going to be awesome! don't care they were dropped down to 18 inches, AP 3 anyone? Muhahaha Though the hellpistol is 6 inches? um... pretty much a close combat weapon in my games... and looks like the Commies gonna be I 3 heck, looks like everybody is I3 so much for fancy Special Characters having higher Initiative... hope we still get COD of some sort or I'm gonna be sad... though I probably won't have to fear blast weapons as much anymore

Hehehe sounds like I might have to... oh well waha what!?! Straken is S 6 T 4?!? holy $!@# oh wait... thats power fist that strikes at initiative and T4 from his bionics... Perferred when he was higher initiative though The only guardsmen who could take on most SM commanders and win;) And I wonder what Chef Chenkov has for rules? has he been an actual character before? cause they have a model for him mentioned in our current codex
