The Ecclesiarchy procures transport for them.

Ok a bit off topic, but it can be taken with a grain of salt.
On the topic of transport. The rules say that Sister Repentia can not be transported. So, how do they get to the battle field to begin with? Are these just new recruits from the planet themselves who are going through a self Flaggellation to get into the good graces of the Emperor?
On the subject of transport... There are stories that SOB are descendent from the SOS. I have found nothing to dispute this, but then again my knowledge of the sisterhood is not like Melissia's so she might have insight that I don't know about. Wouldn't they then have just inherited the black ships then?
I am sure that their own fleet in the =][= is on par with most of the other armie ships in size and numbers. Might have to look deeper into the Gothic game for more of an answer. However, if this is the case then they would have access to the same Landers and shuttles that the Marines and IG use to make planet fall unless you are possibly looking at the DOW where the citadel's drop like the drop pod.

The Sisters of Silence are not, in any way, related to the Sisters of Battle. The former is the militant arm of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, and is not known to exist beyond the Horus Heresy. The Sisters of Battle were formed in M35, from a shrine on a backwater world where an ancient martial arts order of nuns dedicated themselves to the Emperor using the name Daughters of the Emperor. They became the militant arm of the Ecclesiarchy (the Imperial Cult, the Imperial Church, etc)after the Age of Apostasy, and a while after that they entered into an agreement with the Ordo Hereticus to offer assistance to the Inquisition should they be asked to do so. Read up on the Age of Apostasy for a full story, although I immagine that many recent writings by incapable authors manage to disclude Alicia Dominica's involvement in it because of their ineptitude.
Also, the vast majority of all actions the Sisters of Battle take have as much to do with the Inquisition as the actions of the Imperial Guard or Space Marines. The primary employer for the Sisters is not the =][=, but rather the Ecclesiarchy.

Thanks for clearing that up, but not to change the subject, weren't the Sister's of Silence also known as the Emperor's daughters? I know it is just a mix of words and perhaps I am reading too much in on the Horus Heresy books, but to me it looks like GW is trying vainly to make a correlation between the too. Mayhaps it is wishful thinking on my part to tie the two together
Also, in Flight of the Eisenstein I don't think her role was down played. In fact, it seemed to me that the Sister's of Silence were in awe by her abilities since she didn't register as a psyker, yet they themselves witnessed her power. Giving her more proof that the Emperor protects.

I am reading too much in on the Horus Heresy books Yep, you are. There is no reference to the Sisters of Silence anywhere in any Sisters of Battle material. The Horus Heresy material is irrelevant, as that took place five thousand years before the Sisters of Battle were formed, and twelve thousand years before the current timeline of 40K. Also, Alicia Dominica wasn't even ALIVE back in the Horus Heresy... how, exactly, would she have had any contact with the Eisenstein or any of those on it?

Must have been a character with a similar name. Would almost bet money on it, but I bow to your fluff knowledge on this point. Thanks for the info.

Alicia Dominica was alive in M35-M36, IIRC. Could have the dates wrong, but it was five thouand or more years after the Horus Heresy at any rate. It probably was a similar name.

In either case. Thanks again. Any fluff books you could pass the titles too for me would be great.
Their fluff is much more interesting than the SMurf and almost as fun as the IG. Would love to read up on more.

There are only two I would reccomend.
Second edition Codex: Sisters of Battle, and third edition Codex: Witch Hunters (Which has a paltry nine and a half pages of fluff). There is some fluff, albeit slightly questionable depeding on who you ask, in Dark Heresy as well.

ssgtdude: Lexicum (the 40k wik) has lots of good infomation and the articles on the Ecclesiarchy, sisters are very well written and worded.

If it is by GW I am sure the ten year olds with the black highlighters had a field day with how it is worded.
Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.

For the Dark Heresy fluff, you'll want the expansion, the Inquisitor's Handbook.

the character in flight of the Einstein is most defiantly not Alicia Dominica
and if I had to make wild speculations based on gut reactions...iId say that the Sisters of Silence may have more to do with the Officio Assassinorum.

See told you that she is the resident expert. I believe Melissa is actaully a sister of Battle sent back in time by the Chaos God who fear her. There is not other explaination!

There's a justification, he's an [not a very nice person]. Mind you, it's difficult to justify why sisters would have very long-ranged firepower. I don't see why not. The Sisters fight wars on their own as frontline soldiers; they're an elite frontline unit, not like Astartes (whom DO get long-ranged weaponry!) whom are a rapid response unit. I personally have to agree with this, I never understood the need to Handycap the SOB this way, especially when every other army has these items.

*WARNING* tl;dr bait approaching! I am sure that their own fleet in the =][= is on par with most of the other armie ships in size and numbers. Might have to look deeper into the Gothic game for more of an answer. Sorry to pull from so deep in the thread, but I can tell you that that is an emphatic no as far as fleet power is concerned. Judging from the stats of the black ship in the additional ships compendium, it's pretty much along the lines of a full cruiser to the strike cruiser's light cruiser, roughly as capable as a battlecruiser. There is no way in hell or the warp that there are as many black ships as battlecruisers in the imperium, and that's not even accounting for the comparatively endless cruisers available, and battleships are considerably more potent (at least according to the rules). Another factor counting against the =][= as a potential fleet is that it is far too fractured from any account I've heard to gather a significant fleet in one place any anything but extraordinary circumstances. However, in the fluff they are quite possibly as effective as a battleship when they show up, such as the Ecclisiarch Nevsky and her escorts taking out three hive ships. Depending on how upgraded said hive ships were and how many escorts she had, she was quite likely fighting well above her weight class, although deathwatch boarding teams and extensive knowledge of nid biology probably helped considerably. That, and I would be willing to guess that a black ship's escort could easily include a (light) cruiser or two and a few escort squadrons, which could bring it back into parity. For comparison, a black ship is 270 points and a hive ship of minimum cost with all weapons slots filled as cheaply as possible is 280. Three is a pretty big tally even with a strong set of escorts. However, all told, their most common MO is to find a battle group going their way to cover for their troops, and given the =][='s powers, one would presume that finding a battle group would suffice. Still, they are quite likely the best assault ships/transports in the imperium all told, given battle barges' ungainliness, and are entirely suitable for the =][='s transport needs, just not for fleet battles. This rather conveniently matches with the background of the ships, which includes the following: "Sometime in the distant past the Grand Masters of the Inquisition viewed the reliance upon Imperial Navy or Space Marine forces for transport, support and protection as unacceptable, and a new vessel capable of independent action was required." Hope this answers any questions you might have on the subject. If anybody has read novels which shed further light on the naval capabilities of the =][=, please tell me, my Melissia-style knowledge of BFG only extends as far as the rulebooks and additional ships compendium, which has all the magazine published ships. It's amazing how much of the research I did for my BFG mod for Sins of a Solar Empire I actually remember (if any of you have sins, do me a favor and check it out, will ya?) ;D

Xthetenth, how might I get it? The mod? forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/332224/page/24/#repliesThe additional ships compendium would be the first result in a google search. Thanks for reading that treatise, by the way, it kind of got away from me. Only the IN is graphically done, and there's no research yet, but it's still good for a change of pace. The stats are there for Chaos, Tau and Orks, but they aren't as polished and don't have many models to call their own.

xthetenth I am watching that mod waiting for a non beta release. So what aboud landers do you think they would use imperial landers or thunder hawks? I personal think thunder hawks and I base it on there use of rhinos... But with that being said I am pretty sure that civies in 40k could get rhinos and so could guard once apun a time.

xthetenth: I personally don't give a damn about the Inquisition.. So go make a thread to talk about them-- this one is not about them, and I'd like to keep it that way yeah? Unless seed wants to talk about them, in which case I suppose I'll just go to a different thread which isn't dedicated to that army that should never have been officially put in to 40K to begin with (for the record, I think the Inquisition is a great aspect of 40K's culture, but it really makes absolutely no sense as an army-- the Inquisition doesn't have its own army, it uses other peoples' armies, such as the Astartes, Guard, and Sororitas, in the various incarnations of each of these three... Inquisitorial stormtroopers are just Stormtroopers by another name, Grey Knights and Deathwatch are Astartes by another name, and the Sororitas have their own agreement to assist the Inquisition if asked for, etc etc etc... they could have just as easilly just put in an Inquistior HQ choice in each of the three codices and called it a day, then made Deathwatch and Grey Knights into variant codices like they did with Blood Angels / Space Wolves)
