It was a toss-up between Hardened Veterans and Ogryns.., I chose Ogryns even though I don´t have any. I just love ´em though! That short story when Nork Deddog pushes the Chimera to his Colonel is just superb! I have used them though, borrowed from a friend and they can be okay. Hardened Veterans are another favourite, I have a small Squad (my "Recon Squad"), just 6 men, made up of the metal Cadians, 5 of them kneeling and sneaking aroud, they fit very well with my metal Cadians as they are very similar except the flak jacket and helmet, i.e. looks like hardened vets! ;D

I use Ogyns as they're the only CC squad I use and vets cos 3 GL's and a ML at BS 4 won't go amiss.
But 5 Deep striking ST's with 2 Meltas are just ace. They never fail to make up their points and as I mainly go up against Space Marines, they usually take out Land Raiders.

Hardend Veteran for me, far more flexible then any other Guard Infantry and loads of modelling opportunties!

Tech priest engineers is quite beutiful and good! Yep but theres a problem with his points. As he's not an officer he can only have 50pts of wargear and Servitors are wargear. So in effect you can only have one gun servitor as the cheapest is 30pts. . Anyway thats the way all the rule lawyers seem to be reading it.

Ratlings rule! 33pts for 3 annoying sniper rifles is too nice not to take!

I was just about to vote for ratlings as they are really cost effective and I like their fluff, but then I also went for Stormtroopers as I use them in most games. Deepstrike, Melters, maybe a Veteran Sgt. with Powersword and Plasmapistol (just because I have this nice model).

I'd say hardened vets but stormtroopers dont evaporate under basic rifle fire like hardened vets do.
hardened vets, if used properly, carefully, kept from getting nuked by rifle fire, can be great, but stormtroopers are hardcore with some A+ models too. If you need an objective taken and held, there's no one but stormtroopers in my back of the book cadian style armylist that can do the job any better.

For me it was a toss up, as I use both Grenadiers and Hardened Vets in my armies. I had to go with the Hardened Vets in the end. I really don't use the actual stormtroops in my force. Hardened vet with the hardened fighters is a real good combo. I just last weekend walked through a unit of 3 Tau crisis suits with them. Of course having Sgt. Rock armed with a plasma pistol and a powerfist, and a Honoriffica Imperialis helped a bit though.

I wouldn say the vets!! I like them because they are the same as the basic guardsman, just more experience!!They are not jealoused by guardsmen, respected I'd say. The other point is that they can be equipped with up to 3 special weapons and one heavy weapon!!!Great!!! They also can choose between lasgun, shotgun or las pistol/hand to hand weapon. They also can use all the doctrines (free deepstriking or infiltration) and the vet sergeant can be equipped with officer's gear... This make them very verstile, more than ST but they don't have melta bombs which is not a main problem...

Ogryns! A 5 man squad with a bonehead + medallion crimson is *tough*! It takes a lot to drop them, they get a decent assult weapon, and they are very nasty when charging.

I love stormtroopers... but I love them even more as troop choices (grenadiers). That leaves room for more ratlings than I would ever need! Mmm... snipers...

I converted my first lot of Ogryns to look like a mob of Hells Angels (I'll post a pic if I can find one).

Can't really beat 100 points for 3 PGs and a ML/AC @ BS 4 with Infiltrating for free!
Talk about your first strike skrimishing force. Personally among the best 100 points the guard can spend.
