Hey Scarper, if you want to proclaim your undying love for me in public, I have no problems with that (just don't blame me if I sneak over for a snuggle ) Anyways, update time! Yellow platoons command squad is finished, so here's a little pic of the completed squad: Yes, that is a Steel Legion model with a flame weapon (a Heavy Flamer in fact), yes it's my little conversion... came out ok I think (and it's not because someone mentioned somewhere that they where surprised the Steel Legion - with their Ork Fighting - didn't have a flamer model... honest ) Here's some additional pictures of the models a little closer up (top row is fronts, bottom row is backs). Obviously the Lieutenant-Commissar has already had this treatment earlier, so I missed him out.: What do you think? Good? Bad? Different? Now for the rest of Yellow Platoon...

Looking good! I love the heavy flamer conversion. I did something similar to make my Catachan heavy flamer models, using the old vehicle fuel canister. I also love how your Commissar turned out as well. Can't wait to see more!

Which model did your use for the heavy flamer conversion?

For the heavy flamer I used the sergeant with chainsword and laspistol model, the flamer itself is two normal flamers cut up and stuck together. The fuel canister is off the Sentinel model if I recall correctly...

Thanks for the reply I'm going to borrow that conversion, I've seen others but this one looks more realistic not just a chopped off lasgun and a flamer bit attached.Very clean conversion!

jerbat - feel free to use the idea. I forgot to mention though that the "trigger" arm (his right arm) is the missile launcher guys arm with the launcher cut off. Cheers Bobulus! Haven't managed to do anymore painting at the moment - had Halloweeen, Baby's first birthday, ad now some form of grim sickness bug... ah well, could be worse

Managed to sneak a little painting time today - just a couple of hours, but it gave me time to paint my converted priest. This guy started out as simply a way to use up an annoying spare 45pts I had, and the model was going to be really basic... then I slowly found myself liking him as he seemed to spawn his own background and character! Don't you just love it when that happens? Anyway, he ended up being a conversion of an old (mutilated and chopped up) Acolyte model that had been languishing in my bit's box for about 6 years. Enough gabbling, here is Padre Daragh Heglan: No additional equipment, nothing special, just a bog standard preist with laspistol and combat weapon (mace). Next up, changing the heavy weapon in green and blue platoon commands...

makes my faith in the Emperor swell just looking at him! Icepack. Swelling can cause permanent damage over time. And I think Lupus will keep painting.

Icepacks for Faith Swellings... ok then... Really quick update - managed to "redo" the heavy weapon for Green and Blue platoons command squads. Decided a while back that, in order to give these two "heavy bolter" platoons a little more kick, the command squads would have Autocannons instead of heavy bolters (which should prove even more wise with the flimsy Dark Eldar skiffs...). Here they are: The loaders have their own "infantry" sized bases, and will stand on top of larger "heavy weapon" base - basically means that when the team takes a wound, I can show it by removing the loader What do you think IGMBers? may be getting time for another whole army shot I think... maybe get yellow platoon done first though...

Love your autocannon teams, they remind me of my Catachan "hunting cannon" autocannons. Can we see some pics of them from other angles, please? I'm interested to see how the gunners' right hands are holding the cannons.

looks great - what did you use for the sandbags?

|
Post by Gabriel Lupus on Nov 15, 2010 13:22:01 GMT -5
Robertm - cheers matey, glad you like it. The bases are just the Dreadnought bases from GW with the sandbag wall, static grass and painted sand added. Lledway - The sandbags were made by my wife from clay, really simple to do, but groovy effect. Trooper - some other angles are below... as for how the other hand holds the Autocannon - the arms are from the cadian grenade launcher arm, which is attached at the point you'd normally fit the "handle and trigger hand" for the normal assembly. Green Platoon, Red Squads Autocannon: Blue Platoon, Red Squads Autocannon: hope that's good for you

I'm digging this army, good background, good paint, good modelling, Thumbs up. I always love it when someone puts down sqaud markings that MEAN soemthing, rather than the usual "it was on the transfer sheet" or "it looked good" method (nothing overly wrong with those approcahes though.) The autocannon bases look nice too, but the sandbag wall looks kinda delicately balanced IMHO, maybe having two layers wideof sandbags for the bottom two rows would look better? (If that sentance made ANY sense at all. I'll doodle it later maybe...) Removable loader is a nice innovation as well.

Thanks for the compliments and constructive points - I may well revisit the walls, they needed something more in my opinion... Also little bits on the actual guns that needed fine touches etc...
It's just a case of finding the time...

Really quick update... and some double postage - ah well. Anyway, the quick update is simply that I've re-done the bases for the heavy bolters in Green Platoon. There will need to be a little tidy up of the paint on the firer where they were removed from their old bases - but that'll get done at a later date. These are the squads Green (548), Blue (549), and Yellow (550) of Green Platoon. Group shot of them: 548's Heavy Bolter different angles: 549's Heavy Bolter different angles: 550's Heavy Bolter different angles: So... yeah - that's it at the moment. Redoing the bases of Blue Platoon's Heavy Bolters in the same way soon.
