I would say taking 9 Hells Hounds versus the Necron spyders list would be a pretty good idea.
With T3 they would die in droves....or swarms.

If you bill your game as one which works in a competitive tournement scene, then yes. You need to spell everything out in black and white. It would be naive of GW to think other wise. As far as I know GW has never put any of their games forward as being made for competitive use. In fact, I have heard that they have said the exact opposite.

And then hold GW sanctioned/run Grand tournments? If they wern't competitive, there would be no winners.

It's all about the attitude you bring to the table.

It's all about the attitude you bring to the table. I completely agree. But in the tournement situation there are a lot of people who will use the rules to produce the most powerful result they allow. It is poor games development for GW to consistently write rules with massive flaws. I'm not saying they should spot everything, but it sometimes feels like they don't even bother to read the rules after they've been written. But anyway. I don't really play much and when I do it's casual, so it doesn't effect me. I just think it would be nice if GW started to employ third party play testers.

I don't think they realize that there are people who would be willing to do that for free. Just the chance to participate in a pre-release and have some effect on a codex while it's being written.

Thats what Beta Testers for games do right? I think it'd be a great idea. Get the rumor mills winding up again, more excitement about releases etc etc All they need to do then is shave £10 off everything they produce and they've got a lot of happy customers!! ;D Oh wait, that'll never happen.... It'd be nice though. And logical

Ok this is a bit late, but today I finished reading 'outcast dead', the new horus heresy.
So apart from an indepth look at astropaths and such (and abuses of text type) the book has a character that is a Pariah, not he might be or that some suspect, that he IS!
So after killing off Necron Pariahs GW publishes a book set around M.30 with a Pariah in it. So it looks like the Pariah gene is still up in the air, without a backstory.
Also the unkown guy, whos face is hidden, but who's aura is "the brightest Kia had ever seen" and everyone that bought the book (40k fans who already know the whole history) are supposted to be woundering who he is. Their not fooled by this stuff!
And I've just gone cross-eyed.

I played my first game with Necrons yesterday, and all I have to say is that Scarabs rock! I advanced my swarm under cover, and a friend strayed a Rhino too close to them; they pounced on it, munched it's armor down, and destroyed it with penetrating attacks, causing the squad inside to have to emergency disembark and become pinned. The next turn they pounced on a Land Raider, munched it's armor down to 5 all around, and caused it to explode with multiple penetrating hits. The Rhino had moved 12" the previous turn (so I needed sixes to hit), and the Land Raider 6" (needing fours to hit), and each time I had seven swarm bases in contact with the vehicle being attacked, or within 2" to deliver a massive 35 attacks.

I found that Scarabs are very killy.. It is IMO the only CC unit worth talking about in the new C:Necrons.. Sure there are some others, but they are either too slow or too expensive.. Personally i've startede bringing my Hellhound to more games than i used to.. Good ol' Toastaroo.. It isn't 2 months since i started having a Collossuss in my lists, and those are allmost as good as the Helly.. Immotek and Solar Pulses are quite a nasty thing too.. The Dangerous terrain combo isn't as badass as it seemed on paper.. Deathray is just plain silly... But on a AV11 it isn't like i can't remove it with Autocannons..

Yeah, one of the players had a Cryptek with solar pulse, and it saved us a good amount of shooting casualties in one turn. We would have had two Crypteks with it, but I had to pare my list down once points limits were established, and I dropped the Cryptek from my list. I would have been interesting if we could have popped off two of them in sequential turns...

I don't like the Wraiths very much, but since I already have six of the old metal ones I'm not terribly bothered. I'm loving the Stalker, though. The Tomb Blades are nice, but I'm not sure I'll be getting any of them since I'm full up on fast attack slots, and I'd probably never use them; it is nice that you get three of them in the set, but also potentially frustrating since you can have five in a unit, IIRC. The Spyder is pretty sweet as well, IMO. I'll definitely be acquiring at least one of them...

Good for the necrons, but very sad to see yet another batch of good metal models get replaced by failcast.

I see lots of potential casting problems for them, and am glad that I picked up all of them in metal when they were initially released...

It's one of the reasons i don't buy from gw anymore. I trade or do ebay instead. I have 16 finecast models, and 13 are utter crap. Now i have experience in molding from the job, and i see lots of stuff that can be made better on the finecast stuff. Heck we mold rubber, silicone and epoxy, and we can get air out of our products, and they are 20 times the size of a model (or even bigger)
The whole finecast hoax is just not supervised by someone with the right molding know-how.

Yes, I linked to this list several responses up... I'm interested to see what the new special characters are going to look like for the 'Crons. If I can find ones that aren't typical Failcast, I might even pick up Zahndrekh and Obyron. I'm pleased that the Destroyer Lord is now an upgrade pack, as this will facilitate (assuming lack of Failcast problems) my doing more Lord Conversions like my GoF Lord. <.< >.>

Why does it need a pilot though? Why do any Cron vehicles need one? Ignoring AI (like the Tomb Spider), can't they just stuff a soul in their vehicles?
