Hi there, I stumbled into this lovely board a few weeks ago. Looking for information because I'm starting with a Death Korps of Krieg army. After more than 10y of painting and playing WH Fantasy I'd like to start with an 1500 points 40K army. I went for the DKOK for the stunning and high quality models of FW. not cheap but pure quality. This is also the first and main reason for the tempo in I will update this thread. It slowly will grow to an army. (posted my proposed army list in the Army list group, and did already get some fine help and suggestions, Thank you!!) With a new army Paint Job I normally I start with the big units first and after that I'll paint the Characters and larger models and centre pieces of an army. the temptation to start with the best models first is there of course, but I know myself, if I step in that trap I will never finish the core troops ......... But in this case there is one exception (like there is always one ) I found on Ebay a Lemanrus Demolisher for a good price and also a HWT with Lascannon. I made those two my Test Models ...... and it was real fun to do that. the color scheme is away from the grey's and I tested a few ones but I'm happy with this one. Looks good i.m.h.o. But please feel free to comment and criticize. that will help me to improve my skills and idea's . O.K. enough writing let's have a look at the first pics. the unit is still WIP, I need to add weathering, the accessories, I like some barbed wire and I'm still working on the color schedule for the las guns. (probably something like an AK40 or similar)

Really nice my friend They're definitely looking gritty and battle-worn! If I had to poke holes the only thing I can truly think of is perhaps some more washes and highlights on the Heavy Weapon Squad, mainly on the Power cable and Metal

I'm loving the diamond pattern tread plates on the various surfaces of the Demolisher... Did you do that yourself, or did the model come with it? Your paint scheme is looking good; as Cosmic said some washes could really make them pop, but they look really nice as is. The only criticism that I have is that it looks like the barrel of the lascannon and the heavy stubber are a bit warped, but dunking them in some hot water and straightening them out should be a quick fix...

Very good looking stuff there! I would agree, more washes on the HWT will really make them pop, especially the uniforms. They look too "new" right now Off to a great start for sure!

@ Cosmic, thank you for watching and the comment. It is true the HWT is not finished yet. It is still a little W.I.P. the Rucksacks, the rifles are now added. For the rifles I go for a AK40 look, black metal and wood. I’m experimenting with weathering powders. that´s not so easy I must say. After fixing it with a mat varnish they are disappearing for 80% I´m also experimenting with custom made barbed wire, because the safety rules made it impossible for FW or GW to provide good looking barbed wire. However my first try is probable even worst, I made the mistake to fix the "barbs ?" on the wire with superglue, but way tooooooooooooo... much, so the next try will be better I trust. a man needs to learn from his mistakes @ Trooper One-Nine-Seven-Four also Thank you. the diamond plates are not original on the model. I added them. It is Plastruct (gray ABS) an US company, should find it with google. And yes you are correct, I was too eager to start painting and forgot to check and to straighten the barrel. @ KRIEGEIRK, thank you for your friendly comments! @ 3ff3ct Thanks, I did it with the help of the FW Model Masterclass. On to the pics for a small update on weathering the HWT looking at the pics I noticed that the power cable indeed could use some high lighting (details are showing much more on photo´s than in real life...... ) also sorry for the, a little too blurry, photo quality

Yeah, those treadplates are really sweet, and a very nice addition to the tank. Excellent job! I just noticed that the housing on the side of the turret is missing its little door part, but it actually looks pretty cool without it. Oh yes, and please just call me Trooper. No need for the numbers, since they're a pain to type out. Speaking of pain... *Takes a tissue sample of magot so that clones may be produced as required* It's all part of the initiation here on IGMB, and you may thank me later. Or not. *Issues magot with a DKoK uniform, body armor, and a Leman Russ Demolisher* Use this equipment to go and take out that lonely Grot over there! Upon completion of your mission you may be allowed to petition the Munitorum for more equipment. Enjoy your stay here on the board, and please keep posting pictures of nicely painted DKoK awesomeness. Remember that sanity is optional when venturing into the Underhive, and beware of other members *Cough*Envoy!*Cough* trying to steal your organs... Hence why a clone may be required at some point.

OMG Trooper, I so happy that you provided me with a DKoK uniform, body armor, and a Leman Russ Demolisher instead of a piece of uncooked lasagna and an inch square piece of soggy cardboard ....... !!! this allows me to survive for the Emperor a little longer with this boddy and avoid the, probably, painful process of wakening after the cloning, as long as possible. Since remembrance is cloned together with the body, does that include hobby and painting skills ? Oh by the way the missing door of the targeter and the weathering helps to give the tank the look of a seasoned survivor. hmmm that might be correct, but to be honest, the door was simply not inclosed in this cheap Ebay buy.

update time My first squad if finished please feel free to comment them. the antenna of the Vox is a 0.2mm steel wire I was able to lay my hands on. I am thinking of using the FW decals for the shoulder pad numbers (one kneeling guardsman does have it already, but I do need the stuff to fix them properly and make the decal flexible enough to achieve the correct shape of the shoulder pad) stupid enough there is no 231st...................

The steel wire antenna is a nice touch. Impressive squad, I love the DKOK and you've done an amazing job painting. Is the underside of the grenade supposed to be white? Seems sort out of place for a squad that looks like crawling through a muddy trench.

All I have to say is that the weathering on the tank is the BEST weathering I have seen ever. You totally got down how worn, partially rusted metal looks.

@ WereBob: thank you for the nice compliment! LOL about the underside of that grenade after taking the photos I noticed it myself.......... I simply overlooked it, I painted it on the sprue, clipped it of and glued it on @ DadCRO: thank you Progress: Next paint job will be a unit of Grenadiers. This will be a combat unit with flamer, flamer, heavy flamer, plasma pistol. And I am thinking of adding a demolition charge --> anybody with comments on this one? I do like the S8 AP2, but the 6" range and the scatter of the large blast worries me. When I was in the army they not allowed me to throw hand grenades, and that was with a good reason!! (this is the honest truth!)

Grenadiers are kind of like the Death Korps version of the Cadian Stormies. One hit wonders, hit hard, and fast in a Centaur and die for the Emperor. I would keep the demo charge.
Everything looks great btw!

Hi Kriegeirk, Hard and Fast sounds good I for sure will give it a try with the Centaur. Since they can shoot while they are inside the vehicle, are they allowed to throw the Demo Charge? Because if they are, it would be a hell of trick!!

Hi guys, it took some time but I did put the next squad togehter, the advancing one. I still need to do the basing before I can start with the primer and after that with the actual painting. for now some w.i.p. Houzee

Some great stuff you have here sir!
I must say I particularly like the bases. They remind me of leaf mould or fungus, of which I approve.

My method to spray paint in rain, get cardboard box, turn on side, place models at back if windy as well...stand side ways to the wind and hold can just inside box. this should stop you spray painting the objects down wind and stop you breathing in the fumes.
