I'm getting a camera tomorrow - awesomes. So I plan on starting a photo thread here. However, I'd also like to enter the current golden guardsman, and if I have a thread here it will be VERY obvious which squad on the competition is mine. Which do we want more? :-D
Edit: Clearly, I went with the pictures. Scroll down to enjoy!
Latest: Tanks!

You can post other stuff you have complete then after the next GG competition is over, you can post your competition squad up. That is what I did on the last GG comp I entered. That way it can be appreciated both competition wise and in your own thread.

There's a very obvious conversion theme through the army that would give it away, that's all. I guess I do have a sentinel that is largely unmodified - that can go up here

It doesn't matter, there might be a theme but as long as we don't see the actuall entry then it's fine

I like Kreigeirks idea best.... Only because we can OD on pretty models

Now you're overestimating my talents! Just bought some basing materials today, so they'll be presentable over the next couple of days.

Go for the GG, keep the competition healthy.

It begins! I'll enter a different squad into GG. Commanding Officer (CCS not yet finished) with mascot. Officer of the Fleet One of several commissars (this one painted by my g.f.) ...and the first PCS. I have basing materials but I'm waiting until I have a much larger chunk of army finished to do them all at once. I'll also do squad markings then, before the spray sealing. Thoughts?

These are looking excellent my good sir, I'm a big fan of the OoF.
I'm sure it was intentional as part of your them, but I can't help but feel that the fatigues and the armour 'blur' a little too much. Perhaps a more striking green on the guardsmen's armour/overcoats, such as the one used on your company commander would help them stand out a little more.
Please feel free to ignor that however, since they are superbly done and look vert realistic, I just personally like a little more contrast between the fatigues and the armour on my men.

Thanks for the comments Shostak! I can see what you mean on the armour front, although I'm quite happy with it as it's a camo effect I'm going for. Actually, they are all the same shade of green - just different lighting, as these are literally the first pictures I have taken with my brand new camera and still experimenting!
Still to come, finished but not photographed - an autocannon squad, lascannon squad, and scout sentinel. Then a bagload of things that are WIP (example - out of focus stuff in background!)
What I have struggled most with is differentiating between fabric and armour of the same colour, such as on the two officers where their body armour and/or shoulder pads are adjacent to green overcoats. I want them to stay the same colour, and have tried to seperate by using two different shading and highlighting techniques over the whole army for the two materials - does it work well enough to not look silly?

You maybe have to make the highlights stronger on the edges. You could also try to take a standard pencil and use it to colour the edges of the armour, so it would look like the paint on the armour have been worn off. Else it seems like a good start on a nice army you have there. The simple conversion with the breather on the commissar is a nice atmospheric touch.

That's a good idea - I have been using very gentle black and gunmetal drybrushes a little for that effect, I'll try a pencil. Expect to see the breather mod a lot - I have a fair amount of random metal models and OOP things that I'm having to gasmaskify!

It looks like your army is off to a very nice start. I especially like the camo pattern on the fatigues, and the Pig Iron heads are great!

Wow... those look great!
I really wouldn't want to be in the same unit as that Commissar!
I really like the theme, to me the lack of respirators always has always bothered me in sci-fi.. by which I mean that the number of planets that have suitable oxygen levels etc... and the fact that gas weapons are not high tech but can be horribly effective. ( I think in 2nd edition there was a gas grenade or bomb, it only effected models without helmets / respirators.. we ended up banning it due to the instant game end it would bring about ).
I recently discovered that if you put some A4 paper behind your models and curve it from horizontal to vertical by resting it against a tea cup you can create a nice plain background... cameras like this as it allows them to focus on the model and not auto-focus on something else unintended. (I used to find mine had auto focussed on my tea cup, or paint pot etc... though all yours are vey nice pictures taken with a stedy hand in good light, so well done!).
exceellent work.. keep it up!

Gaming weekend. Took the opportunity for some more photos. The battle itself started something like this: ...and ended pretty much the same, only with all the Blood Angel models removed from the board.

Looking good! Let me guess: the BA player dropped in all of his troops? I have the same problem. But dealt with it the same way you did

First game he dropped them in and ate me alive, second game they were all in those transports. From nearest to furthest in the photo:
Razorback blew up turn one. Squad hid on the objective until last turn when master of ordnance landed a direct hit and took them all out.
Landraider blew up on turn one. Death company and HQ made it on foot as far as the grey ruins, the last two being cut down by lasguns about an inch from the squad!
The two Razorbacks at the far end made it all the way up to the edge of the trees, the guys got out, took down a 20 man blob with commissar before I could take one roll back. Razorback blew up the russ. Sentinel appeared at the back edge and started shooting the back of the Razorbacks while melta vets came in from the back edge right in front of them. Shot the bejeesus out of him, before PCS followed through and took out the last guy. Remaining Razorback reversed towards other objective to contest it, but by then an infantry squad had moved up and krak grenade got him in the rear armour. All done!

Happy Birthday! Next up is a 4.5k 3v3 match, two guard armies and those BAs against chaos daemons, orks and dark eldar on an 8'x6' board. Have some more miniatures on the way for that, hopefully some more then for you guys to critique!
