Well, I found an inspiration to paint the Vendetta so it's now all done. First a group shot of my painted flyers. My apologizes about the bad quality of the picture, I couldn't find a space big enough to fit two Vendettas in and have a good source of light nearby as well... Then a few pictures of the new Vendetta. Nothing too special here, it looks quite similar as the previous one, but at least it's done now. Now both of my Vendettas' search lights look like this - I followed the search light tutorial I got linked in this blog on page 2 and personally I like the way these turned out. That's all from today, next time I'll have a couple of more regular spruce swamp fighters. - Cheers, Perkele

*Demands, under influence of ethanol, that the Dance Commander be painted next!* You got it! This time I have a bit bigger update, I have some cool stuff painted and a couple of group shots as well. First some meltagun guys I got painted. I decided to forget the gasmasks on Veterans idea, for financial reasons mainly. If I can use regular chumps as Veterans whenever I want to, I won't need to buy so many models and arm them with lasguns. At the moment I have about a hundred lasgun dudes, and I don't fancy buying and painting another 50 of them for my possible mech guard list version. But anyways, here's some old metal lasgun guys. I like their face impressions very much, they seem to enjoy their work quite a lot. This guy is made from a regular jungle fighter. I made the gun with instant mold and green stuff - this turned out a lot better than the grenade launchers in my opinion. I have no clue how meltaguns function in the battle, but I thought painting the lenses like this would look quite cool. The guy carrying the meltagun looks badass here as well. And then Guardsman Marbo aka Private Joker. Heath Ledger's Joker is one of my favorite movie antagonists, and adding him in to the army felt like too good of an idea. I know the Private Joker pun is a quite old joke, but I'll go with the name because it's so brilliant. Marbo gets the duty of being the Joker since his special rules are so close to Joker's (if he were a character in a game) and I really like the idea of Joker appearing in the battlefield, throwing his bomb on some power armor guys while cackling maniacally and then disappearing in the forest. Of course in the game Marbo gets a bullet between his eyes right after throwing his bomb, but in my fluff he just vanishes in the forest. It's way cooler that way. "And here... we... go!"And here's a couple of group shots of the infantry of my 1500 points tournament army. There's a big tournament coming 26.-27. of July in the biggest annual role playing event in Finland, Ropecon. Also there's a WHFB tournament as well, and I'm attending to that too (that's three days of tournament Warhammer in a row - so awesome). That'll be my first 40k tournament so I'm not expecting to do there too well, but I hope I'll learn a lot. The armies must be painted, so I still have a quite a lot to do. 45 basic spruce swamp fighters - I'll have a blob of five squads. Fortunately I don't need to paint all of these in a month, those old models will do in the tournament even though they aren't anything too awesome. Some power axe sergeants. The two not painted guys are next in my painting list. My painted PCS and in the background my almost completely painted SWS - one more flamer left! A squad of demolition melta veterans with the Dance Commander - all done. Private Joker and the Lord Commissar. "Enough from the clown!"That's all from today, hope you like them. Next time some sergeants and the last flamer, after that I need to paint one Vendetta, three tanks (two Manticores and a Griffon) and a bunch of spruce swamp fighters. I should do okay, if my order of three tanks arrives soon. - Cheers, Perkele

Awesome! Every mini is better than previous one... I even can't imagine how good will be the last one! (if there ever will be any ;p) Keep them coming, I'm waiting for more! Oh, and I really want to see tanks with your painting. That have to be great too!

Thank you all! Glad to hear you like them. @ yarrick22: That particular head (and a few other hairy heads) are from WHFB Empire White Wolf bonus sprue. The sprue contains fur capes and hairy heads, I believe there might be some other stuff as well but I can't remember. I don't know where you can get those bonus sprues (otherwise than eBay) anymore, but I have contents of one since a friend of mine got himself a whole bunch of them after finding a good Empire deal and he traded some of the bits for me. @ gearboxx: Are you interested in the painting technique itself or are you interested in the colour choices? The skin color is basically made from a mix of brown and white, and always higlighted with the same mixture, except every time I highlight I add more white to the mix. I can make a more detailed step-by-step guide if you'd like to see one. I got some interesting models from a post today! Unfortunately the tanks aren't here yet, but I got three great and fun man-sized models to paint. Let's just say for now that soon the IG army will be joined by a couple of loony dictators... - Cheers, Perkele

And it's a double post! Yesterday my package from Blacktreedesign arrived and I got some cool models. First Hitler. His base is still WIP. I have no idea what I'm gonna do with the model, I just thought he'd be a fun addition to the army as a random commander. The swastika was really hard to paint (it's so small I can't just paint it properly), but that's the best I could do. Then his old buddy, Stalin. He's going to be one of the Lord Commissars. This is a commissar even a toughest spruce swamp fighter doesn't want to mess with! Then some "proper" IG models, first a couple of sergeants. This one is the young poet of the company, he always starts acting dramatically when he founds a skull. And yes, he is really into Shakespeare. A regular grunt sergeant. My seventh flamer, now I have enough of these guys. And finally some progress on the Vendetta crew. That's all from today, hope you like them. Next time I'll have some pics of the Vendetta and/or its base, also I might finish the bases of the dictators. - Cheers, Perkele

Got some more stuff done! First a group shots of my commissars. In the middle is the newest addition to the commissar family, Yarrick himself. Then a picture of 21 unpainted guardsmen. The big tournament I was talking about turned out to be 1850 points so I had to add another blob in it. This means I can't take a properly painted army to the event, but fortunately I have enough models to do it. I'm going to paint these guys in basic colours before the tournament and finish them after it. And here's the "finger paint legion". In the big tournament armies have to be painted, but fortunately most of the guys I got from a friend of mine are already somewhat painted. Yesterday night I fixed all broken models, painted everyone's bandannas red and everyone's bases green (about 20 of the guys were based like that so I decided to follow the method). Now the legion looks like a bit more coherent gang. The guys aren't gonna stay like this, I'm going to paint them properly later but for now I'll leave them like this. Since they're counted as painted I can use them in tournaments while I'm getting them properly done. Not so good, but at least I can attend to tournaments now. That's all from today, next time something else. - Cheers, Perkele

There needs to be some sort of way to have Hitler and Stalin entwined in each others' arms engaging in a passionate kiss...

Just don't put commissar Stalin in commander Hitler's squad. Nothing good could possibly come from that.
Some really nice painting here, well done.

I have always hated Catachans until now. You've really made them stand out and they look amazing. The bandanas and the patterns......fantastic! Ahh Blacktreedesign I loved their Dr Who sets, I had all the Daleks! Brings back memories *wipes away a small tear*

Thank you all! @ cosmic: Speaking of Daleks, look what's going to be on the base of my third Vendetta. The funniest thing is that I glued the Dalek on the base before reading your comment.

Awesome work with your "kitbashing" of models to create a unique army. ~Yarrick22

Thanks all! I have always hated Catachans until now. What, you don't play Catachans? What do you play then? With THESE guys? At least Catachans carry those great big knives they can slice their opponents with. Anyway, this time I'll have a strange update. My spruce swamp fighters are well on their way getting painted in batches, but no pics of them yet. I wanted to try something different and got me a box of... *gasp* POWER ARMOUR! I wanted to try some allies who would be cheap (both cash and points) and few in numbers. After thinking about different possibilities (and discarding Grey Knights. Seriously, inquisition fighting alongside these pagan weirdos? No way) I decided to go with Space Wolves. Orks would be cool because they kinda work the same way as Catachans if you know what I mean, but I decided to go with the wolves. I hate power armour. I literally hate the look of it, in my opinion they look like a bunch of goddamn Buzz Lightyear wannabes (I know Space Marines came before him, but that's who I keep seeing when I look at most power armor guys). The two exceptions are Sisters of Battle since their power armour isn't that over-the-top and Space Wolves since they won't need their helmets, they can have fur capes etc. Also I prefer Space Wolves' fluff, I like their rebellish ways and wolves are definitely the coolest predators ever. These are also reasons why they would fit with the spruce swamp fighter theme quite well. First I'll show you a couple of fun miscasts from the kit. This one is absolutely hilarious, how can this happen to a head of a marine? And here's a pic of another sprue were everything is okay. Another one, those shoulder plates seem to be melting... I guess they were meant for the guys with plasma guns. Then some miniatures I assembled. First five wolves, four with bolters and one with a flamer. Surprisingly the kit didn't have any flamers in it even though flamer is a free upgrade to one Grey Hunter. Fortunately my spruce swamp fighters were nice and traded one for a big bunch of plasma weapons (the kit comes with 6 plasma pistols and 2 plasma guns, also there's a huge pile of bolters, bolt pistols and chainswords and a few power weapons as well - nice). Again, I think these are the best marine figures. Look at those heads and wolf icons everywhere! These fur capes are from the White Wolves kit. I guess I'll have to start making some more capes with instant mold and green stuff if I'm ever going to expand this wolf gang. The cape on the left is from a goblin kit. And here's two larpers... I mean Rune Priests with force axes. The conversions are still WIP, but that's how they'll look like. I'll give them shaman drums and such later. And finally a group shot of the wolf herd. Three more guys to assemble. That's all from today. Next time I'll have some more pics of the wolves and possibly some pics of the IG. - Cheers, Perkele

good choice on the space wolves, the grey knights would of turn right after the battle and killed your guards, as they might be infected. there was a WD battle report when the grey knights came out that had them wipe out a catachan company after being allied to defeat chaos. the space wolves have huge beef with the grey knights too.

I've got some more pictures. I did some more converting on the models. First the Priests. I modified the pose of this other guy's arms since it'd be quite boring if they both were holding their axes with the exactly same pose. I think they still need something to look different to each other. The Grey Hunters. I removed the HUGE belt buckle since it felt like a bit over-the-top. The flamer guy. I did some sculpting on the Hunters' hair, now they all have long hair. Why? Because they're rebels and do what they want to! Some bolter guys. I guess that's it.
