Hi all, and welcome to the Perkeleen Komppania ("the Company of Perkele") army blog! This will be the place where I upload the pictures of my fresh Catachan army, please enjoy your visit. I'll upload here only my IG stuff, so if you're interested in seeing my WHFB projects, please do check out my O&G and VC army blogs on the other sites. First of all some things about me and the hobby. I've painted miniatures roughly about 7 years at the moment and I've been a frequent WHFB player for 5 years now. I used to have a 40k army (Orkz) when the 5th edition of 40k came out, but I soon sold my army away since the lack of 40k players in my area. Now there are a couple of 40k players, so starting a new army will be possible. There aren't many miniature gamers in my area, only three frequent ones and 4 other guys who come playing every now and then, but we're all super competitive players who like to attend to every ETC-comped tournament there are here in southern Finland. In addition to WHFB and 40k we like to play board games (Descent, Doom, Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror, Dungeonquest, Munchkin, just naming a few) and we've been thinking about Flames of War for some time now (I have a bunch of Brits, but I don't even own the current rulebooks...). But enough of that, let's talk about the catachan army blog. Out of the all armies, catachans caught my attention when I started planning a 40k army a few months ago. In the 41st millennium you can be a super warrior covered in power armor or an Ork with huge strength, but how about a basic human who has lost his mind in the forest/jungle with a ****ty gun? There is no contest for me, of course I picked the maddened humans. Like it says in the title, I'm going to keep this as full catachan army. There will be planes and panzers of course, but the pilots and drivers will be catachan models anyway for me. The theme I planned is a company of crazy and booze-filled Finns killing hostile power armor guys, bugs and orks (and other evil things) in the deep spruce swamp forests of Lapland. Here's a list of models I have painted at the moment. I'll update the list when I get more models and more stuff painted, of course. Perkeleen Komppania* 55 Spruce Swamp Fighters * 9 flamers * 4 meltagunners * 1 demolition charge guy * 4 commanders * 5 autocannons * 3 Vendetta gunships * 2 Manticores * 1 Griffon * 1 Leman Russ * 3 commissars/lord commissars * Private Joker (aka Guardsman Marbo) * 1 Primaris Psyker * 1 Rune Priest * 5 Grey Hunters In the next post I'll have my first update of this blog!

It's time for my first update! I still don't have many IG models (I ordered the codex, a battle force and two sets of jungle fighters, but the company didn't have them in stock so they won't be here for a while), BUT I happened to own a couple of gift certificates to a local shop, so I got myself three heavy weapon teams and two Vendettas some time ago. Here are my first IG models, three autocannons. The pictures aren't very good since the camera focused on whatever it wanted to, but I hope they'll be okay. I'm going to number the bases so the troopers wont mix with the guys from the other squads. Also the tattoos on their shoulders are the same for each group. In the squad #2 everyone will have an eye patch. If you want to join that squad, you have to remove one of your eyeballs without the aid of morphine, throw it in the air and slash it into two with your sword (they believe that in this way Chaos cannot see through your eyes). Every squad will have their own crazy habits, like one squad will have lots and lots of knives etc. I really like the faces of these guys, nice and creepy. One of the reason I love my WHFB goblins so much are their great faces, and these guys are doing the same thing for me. Got myself some planes another day. And since I had some time on my hands I decided to start assembling the first one right away. As a WHFB player I have to say I was baffled when I saw how big these models are - I thought that Terrorgheists were huge! The guys on my Vendettas will have catachan heads to match the theme. The roof and the ramp aren't glued yet since I haven't assembled the gunners nor painted the model. After that I'll glue the ramp but leave the roof untouched, as removing the gunners is much easier if I can open the roof instead of opening the back ramp in my opinion. That's all from today, all kinds of comments would be appreciated! Next time I'll have more pictures of the Vendetta(s), but I wouldn't be holding my breath since I have a lot of other projects as well going on. But who knows, maybe I'll start focusing more on 40k stuff since I got this blog going on!

Very nice! Interesting alternative color scheme, and I love all of the intricate fine details that you've put on the models, including the tattoos!

Nice and muted! Brilliant paint job mate, catachans usually get a bit too flamboyant for me, bright colours aren't great camouflage, but you've done it how I imagine it in my head.

Hyvä on! Although I must say that they aren't really Finnish if not ALL the squads have lots of knives. I like the details and the colour scheme. Looking forwards to more stuff. Can't say that I envy them going out into the swamps with nothing but wifebeaters to protect them against the mosquitos though... B)

Thank you all! It's nice to hear that this theme idea is somewhat original. @ egon: The guardsmen don't need to worry about the mosquitoes, instead the mosquitoes should worry about the guardsmen! These guys are so angry they will punch mosquitoes into their faces, thus all bugs have learned to avoid this company as much as possible.

Looks good, the only suggestion I have is to model some oxygen masks on the pilot's face or chest area. Btw i leave my Valkyries the same way, so it's detachable. One main difference I found coming from fantasy to 40k is that fantasy models are typically set and 40k ones are meant to be movable. Great work so far, looking forward for more.

@ macknight: Thanks! I agree, the pilots need their masks. When I did the head swaps I thought it'd be goofy if the pilots had cigars instead of oxygen masks, but after thinking it for a bit I've come to conclusion that the pilots still need the masks, regardless of how awesome these guys are. Tonight I have a small update, just some more progress on the first Vendetta. First a pic of the updated cockpit. Now the pilots have their oxygen masks. The masks are from the original pilots, I basically cut all the heads from the middle and glued and liquid green stuffed them together. Then a couple of pictures of the gunners. Since the gunners were a bit too "un-catachan" for my taste, I removed all armor plates and sculpted chests and coats for them. Their backs are still a bit messed up and they need some more work. And finally some progress on the first twin-linked lascannon. The green one is obviously made from green stuff by the aid of instant mold, but it still needs more work. I guess it'll be fine after some more green stuffing and cutting. I'm trying to get me some lascannons from the other players since I don't fancy sculpting too many more of these things. That's everything from today, just a small update for the heck of it. Next time there'll be more pics of the Vendetta(s)!

Neat stuff! For the door gunners, it may actually have been easier to cut the upper torso off and replace them with HW team torsos, but what you've done looks good.

I agree, and use the basilisk standing legs, no conversion and cutting necessary. The masks looks good, the navigator's arms suppose to go underneath the screen. I only myself realize it on my 4th valkyrie, not really a big deal.

Thank you both! @ Trooper 1974: I thought about taking a couple of instant mold copies of the heavy weapon team crewmen's upper torsos, but I thought it'd be too much effort so I just green stuffed the cloak. But that definitely would've been one option! @ macknight: After examining the model a bit it seems you're absolutely correct. Also the pilot in the front was holding the control lever kinda weirdly so I corrected that as well. Now the cockpit should be assembled correctly, I've no idea what I was derping while I assembled that earlier. These are kinda smallish things, but since it's a big and expensive model, spending time with it is all good. Anyway, here's a picture of the fixed cockpit. Also I glues the first twin-linked lascannon on its place. I'll add the rest of the lascannons when I get some more of them (or when I get fed up by waiting and green stuff my own). These updates have been a bit bland since the package still isn't here and I've been working on my WHFB projects quite a lot. There's a WHFB tournament coming this weekend and I have some models to paint for that, but after the tournament I'll have plenty of time to work on my catachans. Hopefully the IG package will arrive soon so I'll get some basic troops to assemble, I kinda want to "save" the other Vendetta for later since I'll have a lot of troopers to work on and later working on the big model will be a lot more refreshing than assembling it right now in the beginning.

Thanks all! At the moment I'm on my way home from the big WHFB tournament (I got 0-20, 20-0, 11-9, 17-3 and 0-20 results, I didn't do as well as usual but 4/5 games were great), and I got myself some IG reinforcements as well.
A friend of mine from this other town used to have an catachan IG army (he got it from Ebay or some place like that), but since he wasn't too interested in the theme and he wanted to start a Necron army due to its fluff he sold the army for me!
I'm not 100% sure what the army contains (I have it in my bag, and I'll start going through it tonight or tomorrow), but what I know is there are like 70 jungle fighters, 10 storm troopers, some flamers and sergeants, a few snipers and guys with rocket launchers, a whole bunch of characters (five commissars, one of the senior officers, two psyker guys etc), three heavy weapon teams, a sentinel, a chimera, a leman russ and other good stuff. I didn't "need" some stuff like the russ or the sentinel, but he was a nice guy and gave them free as extra.
I'll have some pics of the models tomorrow!

Ha! I love the fact that by way of initiation, they deliberately mess up their depth perception by removing and mutilating o be of their own eyes! Bet they don't last long after THAT! Lol
None the less, great use of colours, and great tats and bandana detailing!

Perkele, I have a question. Will you make a model based on Simo Hayha?

@ syphon: I happened to get some snipers on my hands, so Häyhä just might get presented in the army. I wonder if he'd kill 200 orks within a few games! In this update I'll show everything I bought from my buddy. There are models I really don't need, but since I got everything for merely 70€ I'm totally okay with that. First of all some Stormtroopers. I like the models, but unfortunately they don't fit in the theme and they are not that good in the game either (at least that's what players on Warseer told). Maybe I'm going to sell these models to another friend of mine, OR I'll turn them into Karhu-ryhmä ("The Bear Squad", the special forces of the Finnish police), I'm still not sure. Then some catachan Snipers. What I've heard these guys aren't that good in the game, but the models are awesome! The guy laying on the ground could be good Simo Häyry. Some special weaponists. Three guys with demolition charges, two meltaguns and a lovely lady with a grenade launcher. Six Commissars. Even though these guys don't fit in the theme, I'm still going to take them because they are one of the coolest models on the whole 40k range in my opinion. Some more leaders. Two Psykers, Creed and a random guy who'll be a priest. And then some sergeants and officers, thankfully everyone except one are catachans. The standard bearer's destiny is still unresolved, I'm not sure if I should sell him or turn him into an objective marker (a statue). Then the good stuff, 63 Jungle Fighters (not counting the special weapons nor sergeants)! The antennas of the vox casters are kinda messed up, but I'll make my own antennas from iron wire. The first bunch of 35. The rest 28 guys. In addition I placed the 6 flamer guys in the front. A few rocket launcher guys. Four of then are catachans, so I'm going to keep these guys as well. Heavy weapon teams! Two autocannons, one lascannon, one heavy bolter and two mortars. I'll turn the cannons into autocannons with the aid of instant mold, but the mortarts will be what they are. I'm going to have a huge amount of mortars when I assemble all of them (since the heavy weapon teams come with "free" mortarts), but the lack of crewmen is holding me back. These are awesome. I got five Rough Riders as well, and I think these models are brilliant. Converting them will be lots of fun, I can imagine the ponies galloping through the spruce swamps, so cool! Cadians. Yuck. These will be the dead guys on my bases. Finally some panzers! I got one Chimera and one Leman Russ, and one Sentinel as well. Chimera is a quite useful piece of machinery at least to my understanding but the other two... Maybe not so much, but they are okay models. Especially the Sentinel. That's all from today. I got some good news as well, the package finally arrived and I got my Codex and two sets of Jungle Fighters. Unfortunately the battle force was out of stock, so I have to get it from somewhere else. Anyway, next time some progress on some of the models!

The two you have with capes on are Tanith figures, the female one is worth a bit too. They sell on ebay for around £30 each.

The standard bearer's destiny is still unresolved, I'm not sure if I should sell him or turn him into an objective marker (a statue). Ah yeah, the female is from the Gaunt's Ghosts Tanith set, and is quite hard to come by, so really good score there just on getting her in the entire lot, as she's easily worth half of what you paid for it. I'm not sure who the guy on the far left behind her is, though. The standard bearer is Kell from the Creed/Kell set, if my eyes aren't deceiving me. The dude with the breastplate, power sword, cap, and plasma pistol is Col. Schaeffer from the Last Chancer's set, but he is sculpted along the lines used for the Catachans, and will fit in well. I've got one whose been in my paint queue for a while, and I will eventually get around to him.

Also I glues the first twin-linked lascannon on its place. I'll add the rest of the lascannons when I get some more of them (or when I get fed up by waiting and green stuff my own). If you have extra auto cannons or similar weapons and some Multi-lasers laying around, you can take the barrel from the auto cannon and the muzzle from the Multi-laser and it looks very close to a Lascannon. Your GS Lascannon looks pretty good to me, but I'm no modeler so, I have to cheat to get those things done. Nice work so far with the paint scheme and all, looks great!
