I have another update here, this time with some more interesting models, even though they'll be representing regular guardsmen as well. First of all a basic metal guardsman. I think I have three copies of this model, and it's kinda shame that this is the last one. Painting these guys has been a blast, and I just don't have the money to get more. I especially like these old "fat" lasguns and the mean-looking heads. Then a simple plastic spruce swamp fighter. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I absolutely adore the catachan faces - just look at this guy! That could be a nice avatar for me, but I guess I'll stay with the strange pony for a while. I finally started painting the rest of my tanithians, I have four "regular" tanithians and the commissar one, Gaunt. Here is the lovely lady and the third guy of the team. Should I try painting some weathering effect on their capes? I think it might look good, they are, after all, marching on a spruce swamp. And here's a couple of snipers that are larping as normal guardsmen (sniper rules are kinda poor, but the models are great). As a fun fact, the tattoo on his shoulder represents a shaman drum in the ancient Finnish shaman drum symbol library, even though it looks like an aiming point - a nice touch for a sniper. This guy is one of my favorite models from GW's IG range if the commissar models don't count (that reminds me, maybe I should paint a commissar next week?). The cape, the cyborg eye, the whole package. Though his cape might need some weathering as well. That's all from today. I don't know yet what'll be in the next update, but I still have to finish my Leman Russ and paint some more guardsmen. Maybe I'll add a commissar or something else interesting in the mix to avoid making the updates repetitive. Comments, criticism, anything would be appreciated!

I think a bit of mud/dirt on the edges of their capes would look great. I'm surprised you didn't paint the foliage on the snipers either. That'd tie them into your bases and add to your swampy theme a bit more, in my opinion

Thank you for your comment! I guess it'd look good if I painted the foliage with some brown and green colors, I'll try that and post some results. Not much IG stuff painted recently, painting the Mansions of Madness models has eaten a lot of my time - but here's a Commissar with a plasma pistol anyway! I think the light on the pistol turned out better than I expected, but I'm still not a big fan of it. I'll think about how I could make it look better, but if I can't fix it then it'll have to stay that way. Anyway, that's all from today. The next 40k tournament is coming in a less than a month, and it looks like I'll have to get my Space Wolves painted before that. In addition, I have a good bunch of WHFB stuff to get painted as well, but I think I'll do just fine getting everything painted in time.

I like it I really like the sash and badges too. My only suggestion would be to paint the end of the plasma pistol silver and weather it a bit, to draw a bit of attention to it, as it gets a bit lost with all the black on the model. Likewise with the braiding on his hat, maybe gold?

Thank you for your comments! @ 3ff3ct: Good points. I added these few things on the commissar model, and I have a pic of him in this update as well. @ prilladog: The game is awesome, and totally worth of the money in my opinion. There are few investigators and the evil game master. The investigators are working together, trying to find clues what's going on in the mysterious building, meanwhile the game master controls cultists, maniacs, monsters from Cthulhu mythos and these strange occurrences, trying to do certain things to the investigators (the objective changes depending on the story choices and scenarios, but usually the object is to kill investigators, make them insane, or make them kill other investigators!). The clues ultimately lead to the investigators' own objective, which also varies. If you are a fan of H.P. Lovecraft's works (I know I am), Mansion of Madness is something huge. If you're not, it's still a very decent board game. Anyway, I have some more pics. First of all the updated Lord Commissar. Then some of the spruce swamp fighters with capes. I painted some brown weathering effect on the ends of the capes (not much, but some) and painted the leaves green. They sure look better now, thanks for the replies! And finally a third Grey Hunter, Mihail. That's all from today, next time some more Grey Hunters I suppose.

They are really nice. After those little changes even better! And as I said before - I'm a big fan of your black, will have to try that myself. And all those little details on GH... Simple, but soooo effective! By the way, I saw your O&G blog... Probably the best I've ever seen. Keep up the good work.

Thank you all! Unfortunately this time I don't have any IG models to show, but instead I have lots and lots of marines. This one guy was selling his huge SM army, and kinda accidentally I bumped into his thread. He sold the models in batches, and one of the batches was 86 one-poser Space Marine Tacticals for mere 30€. I thought what the hell, I don't need these marines or anything, but since they're so cheap I might as well if someday I happened to need some marines. So here they are, Cthulhu trying to get past a swarm of 76 one-poser tactical marines (a friend of mine got 10 of them because he needed them for some of his conversion projects). They all look the same, they are guys from the old three-man-set. I honestly have no idea what to do with these guys, maybe I'll use them as basing material for my IG. I guess I'll convert ten or so of them into Grey Hunters. Also I got two new Grey Hunters painted, here's Jegor and Dmitri. And a couple of group shots. My squad of five Grey Hunters is now ready! That's all from today. There's this 40k Highlander tournament coming in three weeks, and I have only a few more models to paint before that. The amount of gaming I've done recently has reduced my painting time, put soon I'll have to start painting more actively to get everything done before the tournaments. And as always, comments, critique, everything is warmly welcomed!

Thanks! I've got a couple more models painted. First my new sergeant with no power weapon. His name is Sorjanen, and he is the one in charge of drinks in this company. Needless to say, he is highly respected and his Ld8 represents his special talent of communicating with drunken guardsmen. The model is "Innskeeper" from Reaper Bones, but the laspistol is my own addition. Please ignore the few glossy parts, I still haven't used matt varnish on him. Then my first Rune Priest. Nothing too special here, just thought I'd show him too. Next time I'll continue painting my few remaining guardsmen to get the company painted before the tournament coming in two weeks.

wow, very impressed! You're speeding through but somehow kept the quality high as well.
The flamer guy aiming down the sight looks off, who aim down a blast radius weapon?

Thank you both! After a couple of weeks of silence here I'm back again with some more updates! There's a 1,850 points tournament coming in the following weekend, and I have only a little more stuff to paint to get everything done before that. My list is going to be something around these lines, but I haven't confirmed anything yet completely. Primary detachment:HQ1: Company command squad: 4 melta guns, astropath = 120. [WARLORD] ELITE1: Guardsman Marbo = 65. TROOPS1-0: Platoon command squad: 4 flamers = 50. TROOPS1-1: Infantry squad: sergeant w/ melta bombs & power axe = 65. TROOPS1-2: Infantry squad: sergeant w/ melta bombs & power axe = 65. TROOPS1-3: Infantry squad: sergeant w/ melta bombs & power axe = 65. TROOPS1-4: Infantry squad: sergeant w/ melta bombs & power axe = 65. TROOPS1-5: Infantry squad: sergeant w/ melta bombs & power axe = 65. TROOPS2-0: Veteran squad: 3 flamers = 85. FA1: Vendetta gunship: heavy bolters = 140.. FA2: Vendetta gunship: heavy bolters = 140. FA3: Vendetta gunship: heavy bolters = 140. HS1: Manticore: heavy flamer = 160. HS2: Manticore: heavy flamer = 160. HS3: Leman Russ: heavy flamer = 150. Allied detachment:HQ1: Rune priest: Jaws of the World Wolf, Storm Caller, melta bomb = 105. HQ2: Rune priest: Jaws of the World Wolf, Living Lightning = 100. TROOPS1: Grey hunters: flamer = 75. TRANSPORT2: Drop pod = 35. I think it's a solid list, but I'm going to take the tournament as a learning experience - I'm still quite new to 40k, and at the moment I can play test games only against one CSM army, so I'm probably going to get my teeth kicked in anyway. But enough talking, now some pics! I finally got my first Leman Russ, Jalla, finished. Jalla is a Sámi word and means "maniacal". I thought my army's Sámi people deserve a tank as well since the Russian marines have their own Rasputin drop pod too. This is a basic moving battle cannon style Leman Russ, I quite like the model. The side armor of the tank needs some more touching. It looks a bit damaged since I removed the side sponsons which the old owner of the tank had glued in with some ridiculously strong stuff. A couple of glancing hits were taken and hull points lost for nothing. Some Sámi writing on the tank. These are the lyrics of one of my favorite bands' (Shaman) song (Vuola lávlla), I thought they fit very well since they are in Sámi language as well AND they are all about drinking heavily from dusk till dawn. Some other IG stuff I have done in these past two weeks... I got some good gas mask heads in a trade some time ago and decided to change all of my flamer guys' head to these to add some unique touch to the flamer models. There's a couple of Valkyria crew helmets in there as well. One of the masked heads looked just like Bane so I had to save it for later. Maybe someday my company will be led by colonel Bane! (Skarsnik the Lord is my nick on the other forums) Then a WIP pic of my Chimera, Pistos ("Lumbago"). My dream is to get a total of nine Chimeras and name them by the nine sons of Louhi, the antagonist of the Finland's national epic Kalevala. The sons would be named as Pistos (Lumbago), Ähky (Colic), Luuvalo (Gout), Riisi (Rickets), Paise (Abscess), Rutto (Plague), Rupi (Impetigo) and Syöjä (Cancer). The name sign of the 9. son would be empty since he had no name. Anyway, here's a WIP pic of Pistos. While painting Pistos I thought I'd start kit bashing a commander with a boltgun just for fun. He's very WIP as well. That's all from today, next time a couple of more spruce swamp fighters and a completed Chimera! -Perkele

Quite nice. One problem with your list though, you may only have one HQ per Allied detachment. Have to lose one of the Runepriests...

An awesome army with lots of character. Loving the mud effects too.
Do you play with them much?
What colours and how many layers do you do the skin?

Thanks! An awesome army with lots of character. Loving the mud effects too. Do you play with them much? What colours and how many layers do you do the skin? Unfortunately I haven't had very many games with the army. There are only two 40k players in our gaming group at the moment (we are more into WHFB and board games) and the IG vs CSM match-up has been seen many, many times. Tournaments are a good help for this problem, but I still don't get as many games with the army as I want to. I paint the skin by mixing brown and white and going for whiter color as the highlights get lighter. First I start with a mix of brown and white, then I wash it with Agrax Earthshade. After that I paint two or three more highlights with a mix of brown and white. Finally I highlight the small details like knuckles, tips of elbows and ears with a very light mix. Unfortunately I can't tell the names of the colors since I make my mixes with paints from all different producers, but basically almost any white and brown are good. Maybe I should make a step-by-step tutorial with pics about this? -Perkele

As always some fantastic conversions going on here! It's very simple but I love that you've painted the frame around the top hull doors on the back of the chimera, I've never seen anyone do that before now I come to think of it!

Thats interesting how you do the skin without using the typicl skin tone paint. I might have a bit of an experimentation with it.

Thank you all! @ christopher300: I'll try to remember to take some pics of our next game and upload them here. I've got another update here. While I was painting my vehicles I slowly but slowly worked on a couple of guardsmen as well. First the guy in charge of food of the company. He's making a big pizza/kebab order for the company from a local pizza place, and a small fighting around him isn't gonna stop him from pulling off this important task! He can be used as a vox caster, too. After the battle he's usually one of the biggest heroes, but only if the pizza order makes it to the spruce swamp. What an inspiration! Then just a regular bloke, nothing to see here. Five days until the tournament, and I have only three models to paint: two guardsmen and a second Rune Priest. By the way, sorry about the bad pics. I blame the autumn, at this time of the year it's dark as hell here in Finland throughout whole day.
