That paint works really well on those bugs.

The giant Nurgle blow-flies look really great, Empty. The textured and gooey bases are rad! This is a Japan Hero ltd ed marine. Normally Revilers are quite easy to paint but all the details, especially on the base, took ages. Got another 3 Japan series 1 and the rest of the squad will be on sector Imperialis bases to match the industrial/ city base look.

The tiles on the base are especially impressive.

He looks kind of gaunt, but the skin is really well painted and works well with the grey armor. The tiles look really good too; good to see the mopping servitors have survived the initial shelling of the city

I like the marine color and skin tone, it really matches with his armor. Only part looks off is the free hand symbol on the shoulder pad, it could be done more clean, I would just gone with a decal or overlaying decals to get what you're after.

It might be a victim of being blown up for the macro shot. It looks a lot cleaner in the smaller picture.

Yeah it wasn't perfect. The close-up was making me cringe so I tried to touch it up a bit. Also missed a couple of bolter casings. I didn't like the skin tone. It was my first attempt at proper Raven Guard (ultra pale) skin tones, and I have a few more experiments, some just using blue wash without the normal flesh wash. Although my DIY chapter are descended from the Revilers they were naughty in their history and after they ran low on geneseed following a disastrous campaign VS Chaos in the Maelstrom they stole a whole chapter's worth of geneseed but it's not RG, and they don't know who it belonged to. So that means I get to paint them any skin tone. I can't use transfers so I have to persevere with the dodgy freehand and the dodgy scratch-built robots. The icon : Assault marine ; With the robot : Need to get those Necromunda Ambots.

Mike(?) looks like a fun build, are you using him in game? Or is he more of a display/scenery piece?

What colours did you use? My default colours for very pale skin are Rakarth Flesh, Flayed One Flesh, Pallid Wytch Skin.

For that one it was Pallid Wych Flesh with a blue wash, which looked weird (although I'm rolling with that on a techmarine) and went over with the old Ogryn fleshwash and just painted Pallid Wych back over the raised areas. Mike(?) looks like a fun build, are you using him in game? Or is he more of a display/scenery piece? I'm thinking of making a small army of the robots, just to use up lots of leftover vehicle bitz/ other general bitz and junk. They'll be robots from the Dark Age of Technology that the corporation chiefs take from Terra as they flee the Emperor's wrath in the Unification Wars, and hidden in distant worlds. Then my marines can hunt them in a special scenario where they can't damage them too much. Maybe they'll be like Kastelan robots but a lot weaker, but thinking of using monster profile, albeit a weak one. Another assault marine and a couple of Fallen. I'm trying to finish Cypher too at some point.

Loving the older armour on the Fallen. That was one of the things I've enjoyed most since Betrayal at Calth came out. Building kitbash mk3 chaos marines and mixed armour (chaos) marines. It is also one of the worst things about Primaris because it feels like all that old classic armour of the ages stuff is going away.

It is also one of the worst things about Primaris because it feels like all that old classic armour of the ages stuff is going away. Yeah I liked the Mk 3 kit and ended up using all the holstered chainswords just to make the Fallen WYSIWYG; in the rules in Gathering Storm 3: Rise of the Primarch the Fallen have the profile of a SM veteran but the equipment of a Chaos marine (or upgraded Grey Hunter) so I wanted them all to have bolter (or special or heavy), boltpistol and chainsword on the models. My first Special Character: I popped my cherry! (Edit - retook the first picture as it was a bit blurry) Are there even any DA players in these parts? I know Walrus used to run them.

Good looking character! I was going to ask if it was cypher but then the rest if the picture loaded in and I saw the base I had an Dark Angels army at the start of 6th edition. I've traded a lot of it for Guard stuff when I started collecting Imperial Guard, and other parts got turned into regular marines at some point.

nice work everyone! Love the skull and lightning bolt shoulderpad! here's a few shots of what i've been tinkering with: the biker girls are being prepared for a roleplay game, hence why they have a copy of them without a bike... its not an identical clone as the torso's are a little different, but i think i'll get away with it. as the squads get bigger i'm thinking to add some decals to the fuel tanks on the bikes, something that links to the hairstyle - so a blue feather and an orange flame would probably work. then there's these guys who are my next killteam (my orks keep getting squished by my boys deathwatch reivers and he's asked me for a tougher fight... you don't get much tougher than plague marines...)

Cheminhaler, the Dark Angels are looking great! The checks on the shoulder guard is especially well done. Cypher is suitably menacing.
Treadiculous, loving the Death Guard. The tone of green gives them a realistic and grubby look. Much better than some of the gaudy Death Guard that do the rounds.

The checks are good, and checks sure can be a hassle. I did some the other day and I couldn't get a square size I was happy with.
I gree about the Deathguard too, though I don't dislike the gaudy ones, these ones are almost crying out for some sort of advanced weathering though. Like getting some soil or mud rubbed onto them, or some charcoal.

the death guard are done using the basic 'death guard paint set' (TM)... and I was suprised how well they came out, the basing stuff is a bit weird though - seems like sand and paint which makes it okay for death guard (because the sand can be clumped and shaped into worms) though I'm unlikely to use it for other models.
i do need to add some reddish colouring round some area's to give a bit more destinction to certain details, mainly the mouthes and possible to use on a cloak or two.
most of the work is done by the great models though, they are really good, and have way more detail than the goody marines.
as for checks...
having painted checks on a lot of ork stuff i appreciate just how difficult they are, and those are f'kin tiny so well done! - pratice makes perfect, also, thin the paint while doing the initial outline and don't be afraid to go back to a line a second, third or seventh time!!!
my next project is harlequins so i'll be sweating it over tiny little diamonds... thankfully they're anotheer killteam so i only have to do 5 in total. (silently screams inside)

I had an Dark Angels army at the start of 6th edition. Haha! Nobody expects the Fallen! Fear and surprise and shiny black uniforms are our... erm. Yeah the chequered shoulder pads weren't the hard bit; it was staring down the Infinity Wormhole on the edge of the Maelstrom, trying to find my way back to Earth. Those Bikes, Tread! What a squad! I have some of the new DG as well. Lord Felthius and the terminators are interesting sculpts; there are maggots on Felthius's cape..

I’m surprised you found the checks easy, I tried to do some on an Ork, didn’t end well.

Those are some good looking (un)forgiven. I only tried checks once: and they were big, and on a knight, and I did not enjoy doing them at all. I can't imagine putting them on marines

It's easy with an art pen (0.05 mm). Paint the target area Celestra Grey (or another off-white paint) with a few thin layers and then draw the grid and fill half of the squares in. This is my new ever-shifting pile of shame. We have green plastic too now.. Also copied Kirsten's Erinyes Leman Russ missile launcher rack but on a Whirlwind.

Taurox Whirlwind looks amazing. The hinge on the turret part looks really neat too. Today I had some spare putty so I put a little on my Servitor Ogryn project I started back when Necromunda came out. Then I thought, the big thing holding me back on finishing this is getting a cool looking claw and I've been using a bunch of clockwork for my BFG masts and haven't had a chance to use the cogs for a bit, maybe I can do something with that. I like how it looks but I'm going to give the super glue a chance to set for a day or so to minimise the chance of exploding it back to pieces when I greenstuff over the joints. I think when I do I should maybe leave some of the paper clips showing as sweet cybernetic ligaments. Edit: Looking at the photos here I'm wondering if I should pull of the cybernetic eye (Necron gauss bit) and cut into the face so it lines up a bit better.
