I've been wanting to start a new force for a while now. So with the rumours flying around about the new Tau codex I thought I'd take the plunge! With that in mind I bought 2 start collecting boxes and a Hammerhead! Now, I wanted to make them look like a modern (or near future) military, so I've gone with a khaki scheme. The guy below is my first Fire Warrior, thought I'd see what people think of the scheme before I do any more. Here is the first Shas'la: Tau Empire Fire Warrior Tau Empire Fire Warrior Next up will be the Hammerhead! (can't resist tanks!!)

The sensible camouflage gives it a great military realist feel and the Tau symbols are very neat. I also like the light weathering on the armour and the blue into white for the glass/lights. I think you've got a good simple colour scheme that isn't overpowered by the detail colours but they still stand out.

Yes! I want more! The Green works really well with the light green cloth. Bring on the Hammer head, pure evil and a happy moment when you pop them

Cheers lads! emptyhat, that's exactly what I was going for! nutty, yeah they're one of my faves too! I like that they're a ray of hope in the grim dark! treadiculous, glad you approve! MD, ha ha! I intend on getting a few of these as I love the sleek lines and elegant furosity! Finished the Hammerhead, again I've gone for a slightly weathered approach as I want to convey the impression of the Cadre being out on campaign! Looks like the scheme is a winner for vehicles too. Nothing worse then picking a colour scheme you like but it only works for infantry, or for the vehicles and looks silly on the other.

Really like the scheme on the HammerHead, great work.
Will you add Kroot for a meat sheild?

Honestly, that made me lol! That’s the first time I’d heard that one. Yes I do intend on including Kroot I think they add to the whole alien empire thing.
Thanks emptyhat, I’m really pleased with how it turned out, glad you thought it worked.

I've had a pack of Kroot kill my Ogryns and Yarrick in close combat, it was like a chicken slaughter house but the chickens won.
I'm excited for Kroot.

I will be getting some Kroot. Well I've finished my first squad of Fire Warriors! I'm really enjoying working on the T'au. I'm really trying to keep them as neat as possible. Rules wise I've decided to go with a T'au Sept for my Tenant (5+ to hit on over watch) should give anyone charging them a nasty surprise! Here they are: Tau Empire Fire Warriors Tau Empire Fire Warriors Tau Empire Fire Warriors Tau Empire Fire WarriorsThanks for looking! Next up will be a squad of Crisis suits.

Well I give you 10/10 for neatness and I like the little markings on the sholder pad and Helmets.
I wonder if Fire worriors have a special team for filling down their hoofs?

I think they chew them off in the bath!
My codex arrived earlier! Looking through it I must say Tau look like a great force. So many options and possible builds. Think I’m going to enjoy this project.

Bloody nice to see an army painted as if they really are an army. Not a Psychodelic Picasso. And I love the unifying aesthetic of teh paint scheme.

Thanks RedCuffs! That's exactly what I was going for! Finished my first Crisis Suit of team C, it's the squad leader with the Iridium amour (not sure I'll upgrade him to it but thought it looked cool!) I've stuck with the camo scheme with T'au light ochre for markings. I used the the tried and tested sponge weathering technique, I'm quite pleased with how he turned out. He's got 2 Fusion blasters for surprise tank hunting duties (as has the rest of the squad) they're all built and ready for painting. I'm hoping this is a reference to my hideous corsairs. I've found it hard paiting xenos in bright gamesworkshop colours - it goes against any logic to have bright costumes when engaged in warfare! These Tau are ace - keep up the good work! might have to get some tips of you!

It's heresy! But it's not pants heresy, so you may continue.
Just so long as the Tau continue to wear pants.

Lol! Thanks. Can't promise anything on the pants (those Fire Caste post battle celebrations can get a little wild!!) I've finished my first Crisis team! Bit of a milestone for me, with the Fire Warriors and tank this is the most T'au I've ever painted! Also I'm now halfway through everything I currently own for my T'au! These Tau are ace - keep up the good work! might have to get some tips of you! No Tread, not a comment on any one specific paint scheme ... it’s like this ... (and I’m not saying I’m right), Most members here will know that I’ve spent over half my life in a uniform. WOW , just worked it out, 37 out of 53 years ... damn ! That’s more than half innit ! And everywhere I went where blending into the environment was a good idea involved covering yourself in various shades of drab green, brown and not-quite-Black. Unless you were in the Arctic when it was white with splashes of dead looking stuff but I never went there. So to me anything operationally military has to be in that kind of colour scheme. (and I’m not saying I’m right), However, 39,000 years from now, when humanity is fighting for the possession of “The Graveyard of the Rubics Cube” in the Southern Hemisphere of the planet “Bling” in the middle of the “Glitz System” .... Who’s to say that gaudy, primary colours aren’t the appropriate colours to cover yourself in if you don’t want to die too quickly (and I’m not saying I’m right). And the big, bright blues, yellows and reds that I normally reserve for the parade ground are the “go to” for camouflage. Or that the technology development of surveillance and target acquisition has made any attempt at camouflage pointless. And I’m not saying I’m right. But I am.

Not to derail the thread from this fabulously painted heresy, but... And I’m not saying I’m right. But I am. - For the Guard, their supply of uniforms will come from either their founding world, the world they deploy to, or the munitorium. Their founding world is probably several star systems away at least, the world they're on probably doesn't have a robust textile industry if it's up to it's eyeballs in orks, and the munitorium is.... not the most efficient bureaucracy ever, so the odds of getting environmentally relevant uniforms are low. - As you mention, they may be fighting on a planet that matches Liberace's wardrobe, or it may be the planet Brown in the Brown system that's part of the Brown subsector 1. Environments will vary wildly. - Space Marines do have the resources to repaint their armor, apparently everyone but the Raptors things camouflage is for COWARDS AND FOOLS, or they've decided that an 8ft tall giant in power armor with a megaphone wired into his helmet, jet turbines strapped to his back, swinging a chainsaw sword, and screaming FOR THE EMPEROR at the top of his lungs has already shot his bolt when it comes to blending in and going unnoticed. - Everybody else is either insane, religious fanatics, swarms of giant killy bugs, technically already dead, or the Eldar. None of these have historically invested much in the idea of breaking up one's silhouette or going unnoticed. So I can kind of see camo not being a huge thing. That said, there's no reason they can't go for generic browns or greys. Some of the Caiphais Cain books take potshots at this when Cain makes fun of the colors local PDF troopers wear. 1. Where most First Person Shooters from the early and mid 2010s apparently took place

PDF spend a lot more time being seen by Imperial citizens than they do fighting enemies of mankind. Looking abfab inspires confidence and loyalty.

I think that, even with all the anti-camoflague issues in 40k, a guardsman with the option would probably cover himself in the local mud in order to blend in that bit more; it may just save their life.
My thoughts regarding my Corsiars were that the whole army arrives by deepstrike and leaves the turn after through a warp-gate, they all have jet-packs and silly special rules which mean they can move rediculous distances in the shooting and assault phase,
the end result is that they are barely visible to the enemey and would be something of a blur,
beng eldar they would be supremely arrogant and I kinda fancied making them psychadaelic colours to go with the farie wings they've ended up with!
Tau seem sensible enough to utilise all advantages they can access, camoflague works well for them!

Sorry gents, I completely forget that this is an Imperial Guard forum! I’m so used to posting here I didn’t think of the potential heresy. As for camo etc, it’s completely up to the individual if they want earthy, somber tones or bright and shiny. Given the 40k setting and it’s eclectic mix of inspirational material you can do what you like. I took my inspiration from the RDA marine forces in Avatar for this force so I wanted the green to be muted.
