Nicholls i disagree if those are grades..
In my book the Punisher couldn't be a worse put together tank.. And if you add in Pask it is 230 points, think about all the stuff you could get for those points, which are better..

Punishers are one of those things (like our elite choices) that are extremely dependent on local gaming community, personal playstyle and taste. Is it worth it to me or Kras? Hell-to-the-nah... Is it worth it if you like big gattling cannons and rolling lots of dice? Sure, whatever floats your boat.

Ohh Yes indeed..!
I am a big fan of the Vulture with Punisher cannon on it.. Personally i think it is a much cooler "base" for that kinda weapon..
Personally I think the Punisher Leman, should have its weapon twin-linked and be AP5.. Or it should be 50 points cheaper, with the current setup..

I think twin linked and rending.

Rending would indeed make it much more powerfull, but i fear it would still only be on paper.. With BS3 you'd only get 1.67 rends with the 20 shots..
Twin-linking it would give you 2.5 rends out of the 20 shots..
But ofcause on top of this comes the actual wounds it would cause.. Hmm..
TEQ (just as a benchmark).. 2.5 rends out of the 15 that hits leaves 12.5 that have a chance to wound on a 3+ is 8.3 wounds which with saves equals 1.38 unsaved wounds.. After invu. saves on the rends at the termies it is still 2.08 wounds.. So in total we'd be looking at 3 - 4 dead terminators in 1 round of shooting.. So 120 - 160 + gear points of damage..
Might actually be a okay setup for the punisher..

I think it should at least be pinning.

Yay.. this thread shall never die, It keeps resurfacing with more additions of joyous admiration for the daft, or with more grumbles of despair at its inappropriate fluff.. and cost... and gun.. and...
Definitely Pinning, AP5 and Twin Linked would be make sense too... rending? maybe...
I'm still using mine for laughs... and it helps counter balance the more powerful aspects of Imperial Equipment that often are in my lists, thus making for more fun games against less experienced players or old codex's.

Even with no changes to the Rules, it would be potentially decent if it were just cheaper. Even at 30 points cheaper, I think it would be (Point-for-Point) enough better than the Exterminator at Anti-Infantry that it could be worth the trade-off with the Exterminator's Duality. 40 Points cheaper and it certainly would be. Rear AV11 goes a significant way toward offsetting some of the disadvantages of the short Range.
If you give it Rending and an AP, that gives it some Anti-Transport Capability, and basically pushes it into exactly the same Role as the Exterminator. Better, I think, to have one as a superior Anti-Infantry machine while the other is better rounded.

And I will add my usual point for all those who have missed it. The punisher cannon should have been put on a Chimera chassis and added as an Hellhound version.

+1 to that. I'd have paid a higher points cost on the Hellhound to do this.
Sadly though, it's not an option unless we write our own rules for it.

+2 to that.
Played in total 3 games with mine, didn't pay of in points in all 3 games on total... Hence, the rebuild to an exterminator... Why the punisher is more expensive than the demolisher or even the ordinary LR I will never understand... Expensive decor at its best

The punisher is not by any stretch the best tank you can field in the IG. However, fluff wise, it is so great. I am currently building one. Just waiting on the turret to come in so I can get it complete. I took the hurricane bolters from the storm raven kit, used those as the sponsons. I did put a lascannon on it though. And, yes, a heavy stubber will go on too. I picked up the tank commissar from forge world, so he goes on too. I know, massive point sink, but what the heck.

The Punisher is like a Dan Abnett tank, it is fantastic at mass death on paper.

However, we all know that if GW makes it better, it'll be 30-40 points more expensive.

Personally I think this tank would do well teamed up with a LMBT in a Anti-Inf roll.
LMBT fires its ordinance, and the Punisher mops up the rest!..

If you are shooting anything with a save then no, it might actually make things worse, thanks to wound allocation. But if you normally only play with friends then that tactic should be fine.
Well thats only if they are squadroned if they are individual units I suggest just taking another standard russ.
