............none, if the stormies are used properly.*
*As you should have all figured out by now, the Imperial Guard definition of 'properly' reads as follows: "In large or very large numbers, without regard to the situation, while laughing with insane, derisive glee and unleashing the inhuman anger of the Emperor on His foes."

and if they're listed as troops as the page dictates (but I'm thinking its more a listing at the front of the book (think the warhammer style books (havent read the ork or smurf books))) then you should be fielding 60 minimum

I know that the earth has shattered with yesterday's news, but I noticed an Idea that I want to talk about for a sec. The Idea that Stormtroopers could get Sniper Rifles. My position: Sniper Rifles in a Stormtrooper unit is absurd. My arguement: the basis of my position comes from the fact that they are named Stormtroopers, as in "storming up the hill" or "storming the castle". These men were trained be heavy assault units ( assualt in the military sense, not in the close combat sense), skilled in short range fire-fights, and given equipment to take a pounding in return. They're the SWAT team of the IG. Giving such a unit a sniper rifle is worse than useless. Units like that are not trained to score headshots, they're trained to blaze a path to the objective. For this reason, I am THRILLED to see that they get weapons to back that role up. Now poeple won't take five man suicide squads just for two meltas to try and kill a tank before being gunned down as much.

Ok I hate to rain on your party like this but did you notice that the hellgun is S3 AP3 rapid, but is 18" range. Oh well at least we still get 12" of rapid fire.

but if they were assault units, I still think that the guns would be assault. as it is, they are still shooty units, with less range... Does anyone else see it as a trade off, the granted AP for range... whilst still keeping them rapid fire.

Clarification: I am using the word assault with the following definition: Verb. To aggresivly advance with the purpose of taking an objective from an enemy.
Not this definition: to get into close combat. Stormtroopers are assault units in the sense that have high power but short range weaponry ( AP3 in this case) and have good armor to take the return fire that comes from atacking a position ( ussually out in the open) "Assault weapons" are not required for this role. The U.S. Army carries a weapon called an assault rifle, but the way it is used dictates that hand-to-hand combat is bad, very bad.
I hope that clears up my meaning.

Its 12 inches for rapid fire, which is coincidentally half the range of a normal shot.

What makes it different? Storm troopers have a default range of 24", unless I have missed something in the rulebook/

You did- the new hellguns, though they are AP3, have only an 18 inch range. But since GW already established precedent in the Tau FAQ that Pulse Rifles are 12" Rapidfire, we should be alright.
You know who it must suck to be even more than a marine? Sisters of Battle. Their 'backup men' in carapace armour have gone from a convenient plasma-platform to an assault troop that is just as effective as they are. I suspect we will be seeing a lot more stormies in inquisitoral armies now...

That won't happen until GW updates the Inquisition books to the new rules. Old codex = old stats, that also means that if you take Inquisitorial ST's in your guard force they will have the stats from the inquisition books not the new guard codex.
Sucks but true...

surely if you take them as 'reinforcements' from a guard army, and not Inq. Stormtroopers, they will follow rules from the gurad codex?

In the current Codecies Inquisitorial ST's cost 12pts each if you want them to have the same basic equipment that ours do, they have to pay for Krak Grenades where as we get them for free.
Just to clear things up a bit rapid fire weapons can all have a different max range when stationary (18",24",30") but they all fire twice up to 12" when on the move.
