Well before any of this "heretical speculation" (rumouring) gets scrubbed off I'm going to get my tuppence worth in.
Guard have been under strength for years, we all know that. But the new codex isn't going to be about "payback". It's going to be about making things fair, levelling the playing field. Giving the Guard a "Fighting Chance".
I and many of you guys aren't in this for the winning, we're in it for the challenge of the struggle and the fight. The practical application of strategic and tactical thought. Planning and contingency planning.
I've only been in 40K for less than a year and I've only won 1 game. But I've had dozens of "great games" where my army has made a good account of itself despite the Guard shortcomings.
If the new codex made Guard so strong that we could walk over any other army without having to break sweat then I'll change to Tau or something where I am forced to think hard about what I'm going to do. Making the best of my strengths and weaknesses. That's the real test of leadership.
Speaking for myself alone, I don't want a codex that is so weighted that it loads my dice ... I just want a fighting chance.
So let’s just soak up the "tools" the new codex gives us and start fighting !!! (With a chance).

@ilg: I didn't say that I don't want to read rumours, and when I insuled someone, please tell me where and I'll edit it to make it family friendly again. The point is that there are 8! topics in the rumour section and additionally a photo and a fact thread, also 1 rumour thread the General 40k section. So overall 11 threads related about the same rumour. In the best case you have: 1 thread for rumours and discussion (possible as 2 different threads) 1 thread about pics 1 thread about CONFIRMED facts and when you really can't live without, a thread just about whining how much your most fav army is getting screwed over Actually IGMB is the 40k/WHFB board that whines the most about changes. Not even factions that got really screwed over with their 'dexs and armybooks whine that much. Damn, not even Blood Angles whined as much as IG does now when they had got their new codex in the White Dwarf (this thing is a legal 5th Edition Codex) and they got really screwed over. One of my friends has over 9000 points worth of BA and it was mostly useless after the new codex. @rt: actually you're the only mod I see posting regularly on the rumour boards or Woz is only posting in the other threads I don't read RedCuffs: finally someone who thinks alikes and sees a new codex as a fair chance and not free ticket to winning

Woz purged the rumour thread in the general IG section- it was just an honest mistake by a green recruit. And besides, we're not talking about a free ticket to winning- we're talking about a codex that actually represents the Guard- powerful, adaptable, resourceful and unstoppable. (Well, the last part is kind of hard to do, as everyone else would whine)

Powerful: Depends on how good you are to get the last bit of cheese out of the book and it is really hard to say to what degree this will be possible without having the book yet Adaptable: special upgrades for squads and orders sounds pretty adaptable for me, actually even more adaptable than doctrines ever have been Resourceful: this is a point for the commander. A resourceful commander is needed when you want to use resources carefully. Someone who fights wars of attrition like me doesn't care much about resources. There are plenty of men and they'll die for the Dark Gods as I wish Unstoppable: Well it will get stopped either way as it will always find its master in itself or in a newer codex in the future

It was just a general insult, sorry. Its not major, but could have been phrased slightly better, it doesn't need to be edited, just slightly tone down the ranting (I know I'm not a mod, just trying to keep it civil ) I don't know why people are whinign personally. Yes, we get tank cost increase, we get cheaper infantry, yes we loose doctrines, we get valks. yes we have squadrons, we have plasma cannon armed sentinels. The Pro's in my opinion outweigh the cons severely.

That's the point ILG. People only see the negative side of the rumours but ignore the pros nearly completely and this is starting to make me sick

I think that (while we're on the subject) the new codex is more fluffy to the guard. I in no way believe that we're becoming over powered (like chaos was when they first came out. Remember?).
This is what I see gaurd as now:
- troops who are meant to fight in swarms but are too expensive - an army that is meant to be so large that managing it becomes a hassle - a couple tanks supporting infantry who don't live up to their fluff
The new codex, however, I see like this:
- wave upon wave of cheap units that have little combat effectivness while in small numbers - a special system (orders) that make it so that large armies must work together - an army that required much tactical thinking and careful army list planning - highly expensive tanks but that you can take in large amounts - units that are over powered reduced in effectivness - units that were underpowered now boosted considerably
I am excited about the new codex, and I don't think that it will be so easy to win that it won't be fun. I too enjoy a challenge in the game, but when you can rarely win against the newer army codex incarnations, it just gets depressingly repetative as you watch ork boys who cost as much as you unupgraded guardsmen wipe you out because you can't match up to them in any sense of the game.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, even if we only get air support and better Sentinels out of this Codex it'll be worth it to me. I for one am very excited about the new advisors and tank squadrons (whether or not they are actual squadrons and not just more armor for your heavy support choice).

Apparently we do. I'd guess they're called conscript platoons.

Yes, but before dropping those stormies out of the valkyrie, be sure to soften them up first so you reduce the number of shots they can put at you when they deploy. They're no good to you dead
