Ok, so I'll have a go at uploading some pictures of my models, after all I did badger Shokstak into uploading his guard when he just want to be left to his filthy treachery One of my infantry squads (poor guys are still waiting for me to work out the best way to base them and to step up and paint some nicer faces on them) A SWS of flamers. After I did these I started using a lot more tin/bronze/gold and a lot less boltgun metal. A PCS, I built the heavy flamer just a little before I joined this board and before I realised how big a difference the point cost was to a normal flamer, dangit but I like how the model looks.

That looks like a beetle car with an armor plate stuck to the drone and everything else except the engine removed...

And I forgot that I had some Sentinel pictures to put up aswell. I needed to paint a model to see how the grey/purple colour scheme worked on a vehicle so I built this guy. The other thing I needed to do was sort out my basing since something I noticed at the IGMB meet up was that whilst my army looks quite nice at home the bland grey bases really spoiled the effect of my mass infantry when they were on a nice gaming table. The earth/dirt is painted grey and the wood on the felled tree has been brushed over with a lighter grey. I've used snow washed with purple to represent the xenos grass of my homeworld. I've started work on a Russ and two chim chims. The only change so far is to make the hulls more purple and less grey by using a hormagauntpurple/adeptus battle grey mix and then drybrushing it with hormaguant to give more of a thistle feel.

Hey Empmtyhat, I really like the purple on the guard dudes, They are well painted For me, im not a fan of the gold and blue las gun BUT thats my opinion so please don't take offence to it. The Sentinal looks fantastic along with the base, Really well done there sir I'll be looking out for more. Major Downer

That's cool Major, to be honest I had a lot of trouble picking a colour for the lasgun that I thought worked well with the rest of the colour scheme. Is it the gold or the blue? My platoons are somewhat marked out by slight variations in the scheme and I have two which I'm building which use blue and boltgun and one which uses black and boltgun.

Emptyhat it's not a bad sheme, Its not to my taste thats all, I like the more old school look. I thought the gold was a bit to much but taking a second look its not that bad, It works well on the flamers, See If you can make them look less " shiney, shiney" ? Maybe put a wash over them? Once again looking forward to seeing some more from you Major Downer

If you don't mind me offering a little advice: You've got a nice army here, but there's a few things it could do with a fuller use of washes. A good wash of devlan mud over your infantrymen's flesh is always good. Follow that up with another layer of tallarn flesh to create a semi-caucasian look to the flesh. Also, the brasswork could do with a heavier wash of badab black and then a drybrush, just to shade it a bit better.

Xenos Grass! Xenos Grass! *Purges emptyhat.*
Seriously though, I do love your army. It looks even better in the flesh.

Thank you, Shokstak. Though I thought the camera did a fairly good job. RT, I will definitely give what you said about flesh a go. I tried something similar when I was painting in store and rather messed it up. I might leave the metals a bit shiny though since the plan for my regiments background is from a world nearish to Tau space where things are generally a bit shinier

I think the yellow could use a wash of Devlan
The Dread looks great!

Very nice emptyhat, The yellow is nice, it really brings the model out a bit more.
I would Highlight arounf the yellow areas but personally I wouldn't put a wash on the yellow because it will make the yellow more dull and not stand out as much.
Good job all in all.

I've been trying to paint the yellow as bright and tacky as possible, a couple of my Nobz look like they are wearing fluorescent jackets. As a result I've left off washes and I've not highlighted because I've been painting my brightest yellow as the main colour. That said I was looking at GW's guide on Bad Moonz the other day and I noticed they'd done some of their highlights with a yellow/white mix. I'm thinking about trying something similar but they were going for a bit of a different look with their yellow so I'll have to practice on a Boy or two and see how it looks. Now for anyone who doubts my loyalty to the Emperor I've acquired some a deterrent to keep my sector safe from those damn dirty Orks. . This Demolisher is the test model for my armour colour scheme, I've also a couple of Chimera that are half done along the same lines. I started with Adeptus Battlegrey and then mostly covered over that with a ~50/50 battlegrey/hormagaunt purple mix. Then I drybrushed over the hull with hormagaunt purple, I've used more Badab Black over the bronze this time as RT suggested but for now I've left off any Delvan Mud which I may add later if I rough up the tank with dirt/mud/grease and damage. I painted the glass from memory of what I'd read about it. When I went back to re-read the articles I'd seen later the high/low lights were reversed with the lighter colours at the bottom and the dark at the to so I'm not sure if that is a question of taste or if I've got it upside down. For now the colour scheme is very plain which I like. That said I'm very interested in feed back regarding this. Does it work? Also ideas for details, should I switch up the camouflage etc. As a final picture this is what it looks like next to the two dominant colours of infantry in my army. Grey armour with purple tunics is for vets and CCS (so I can see at a glance where my BS4 is). Purple is for all other infantry and the Commissar is so you guys have a more familiar colour scheme in there as reference.

I've seen your works here. I have several comments. First I'll start being critical... I find the Imperial models a little flat for some reason, maybe you'd like to experiment with trying to give the crevices more depth so that they will look a little more contrasting than flat (only on the armour and the skin and black clothing perhaps). The same goes for the yellow on the Orks too. But I love how you've done the metal areas and the Ork skin, that was superbly done. You seem to be very skilled in doing the metal areas of the guns, machinery and stuff like that. Overall, I like your work... It's nice and I can see great potential in you. Sorry if I was a little critical, btw. I'll give you some tips though, firstly these are things that I've tried. For the purple, I would basecoat the armour a dark purple (darker than Liche Purple) then layer paint it with Liche Purple while avoiding the crevices. Afterwards (of you're confident with highlighting), you can use a lighter purple to highlight the edges to make it stand out a bit. As for the black (I'm thinking primarily for the Commissar), I would paint his entire coat a grey colour (Adeptus Battlegrey I usually use) then get out a blob of Chaos Black, dilute it with water to a point where it becomes more watery, then perform a wash over the coat. This will get the crevices and give a small amount of highlght. Then to highlight it, just lightly drybrush it a grey colour to finish it off. I hope my advice will help...

Not too critical at all Wuxiong. When I painted my guard it was something I started after 5-6 years of not having painted anything and to be honest I wasn’t that great a painter back then so I wanted to improve as much as possible. The first thing I tried to do was get all the basics down like making sure models had been undercoated and highlighted properly which was not very consistent in my old work (since I was a lazy/easily bored) child. When I painted my guard I realized that the skin was quite weak so I took advantage of my ASoBR Orks to practice since Ork models have really good skin to learn on. I also tried to put in some of the feedback I got from the forum about painting metal so I’m very glad to see it is paying off. I take it when you talk about the armour you do mean the infantry models? I have a new box of them to paint and I’ll give your suggestion a go for a couple of grenade launchers to see how it looks but the downside is I have already painted quite a lot of infantry models so changing them at this point is a little problematic and the ones I have painted are going to get skin/basing upgrades before anything else. Thanks for the feedback though the trousers on the Commissar were painted a lot like how you suggested and I did his coat in a flatter black to make it distinct from the other parts of the model. However I think you are right and the next one I paint will be more along these lines. Oh, I’ve also seen your army around on the board. It looks really great (all those rivets on the super heavy!) You have a really strong sense of theme running through your army and it works really well I hope to see more In the meantime here is a group picture of the guard I’ve painted so far.

Hmmmm what to do when you want a full set of 3 buggies but GW only make two models? Why Walrus will simply tell you an amazing conversion idea! (And who are we to say no) As such I bring you my buggy squadron, now headed up by a shiny yellow Beetle buggy. I also mixed up some darker purples to paint my Guard with as per Wuxiong’s advice, I haven’t finished any yet but I did practice on an Astropath to see what they’d look like. To set him aside from the regular troops I’ve left him darker and highlighted his robes with both blues and purples. (I took a better Astropath picture) I’ve almost finished a squad of vets and I’ll post some pics of them when I finish up the last two.
